This afternoon's round was flawless for me (had a lot of disconnects yesterday night). Zero lag, no disconnections, quick match-making.

It was really interesting to see the gameplay progression folks have made over a few short sessions. Last time, I was always mid-ranked. This time, I was the highest ranked person on my squad every time but once. I was seeing (and using) more tactics like aiming downward to take out Rollers, shooting into ink to corner and splat swimmers, knowing when to use your special and -- when playing as a roller -- tapping ZR to take someone out quickly rather than trying to chase them around. Probably elementary stuff in the big picture, but signs of progress nonetheless.

I absolutely can't wait until the full game hits so we have access to all the customization options and maps. I'm a little apprehensive about the limited number of maps at launch, but every single other aspect of this game seems like pure gravy.

I only had one disconnect 30 sec into the match and 3 matchmaking errors during the first session. The other two hours worked flawlessly and matches never too long to find. The benefit of having less game modes.

Overall I was really impressed, especially after the initial errors.

Oh and I didn't notice any lag or dropped frames.

The final match in the last Testfire was probably the best match I had. I the only roller on my team and one of my teammates decided to shadow me the entire match. Which pretty much made us unstoppable since it's hard to deal with a roller coming at you from one angle and a splattershot from another. It allowed us to cover a lot of territory without ever really being in danger since players tend to run around on their own instead of having a partner to watch out for them.

This is a fun game! After trying three of the weapons, I think I am better with the Splattershot Jr. Can't wait to buy this game (I was on the fence before this). I'll have to wait until mid-June, though. :/

Apparently there's a glitch in the demo that allowed them to stay in the tutorial even after the demo was over? Is that true?

Yep. I have it on behind me. Some friends are coming over around 5 and haven't had a chance to see it yet, so they can at least check out the tutorial.

Spent the whole of this afternoon's test hour playing. Loved it. I'll definitely wind up buying the game. My friends told me the roller was really strong because it had the shortest learning curve, but I found that very few people actually effectively maneuvered to catch me unaware with it.

Now, the rifle, I couldn't aim worth a damn. Only thing I actually killed while trying it were the less-skilled roller users, who'd charge me in a predictable way and get hit to death with completely uncharged shots as I backpedaled.

It was supposed to be a stress test but I personally encountered zero errors of any kind. Wonder if this means it was a smashing success or if their numbers stayed too low to accomplish what they wanted.

But now that there is a game I want with actual content locked behind amiibo, I have to brace myself for dealing with that crapshoot again.

Played a couple matches in the last hour, pretty fun. I dunno how it will hold up for several hours, but I had fun. The rollers have a fun dynamic for non-roller players--following a friendly roller is a fun way to get into the action and catching an enemy roller far away from you is fairly easy pickings.

Some bad off-screen shots, lol. I took these while my daughter played.

We'll probably pick it up down the road at a discount.

Ha that's cool, I take it that your friends don't currently own Wii U's, is Splatoon something that already interests them or is it something you've introduced to them? In any case, have fun!

I did get put in a match with one guy who was lagging really badly. At one point it told me I was squished by his Roller even though he was halfway across the map.

Other than that, it seemed to work well.

This happened to me. Had back to back matches with some guy named after a GoT character, and I would kill them and then die by them a couple seconds later. Or they would roll a foot in front of me and I would die, always a roller. I saw a bunch of laggy deaths, people just standing still then exploding, a couple seconds after. Smooth other than that though.

That never happened for me. Most of the teams I was in was 3-4 roller teams and we always won.

Splattershot got nothing.

Rollers are great for painting quickly but they're too easy to kill with the Splattershot. Rollers didn't really give me much of an issue since I made it a point to kill them then covering their paint as they were busy respawning.

I enjoyed the game, but the turf mode as it stands now is kind of meh. It'd be much more fun if there were victory conditions or the opportunity of extending the match if it's close. Hopefully they flesh it out past transient 3 minute timed games before launch.

They do actually, but they only found out about the test fire after the first two sessions, and they both work until 4pm EDT, so they couldn't get into the last one.

Had so much fun with the test today, it also seems to be 60fps at all times. I also found out that I'm not a roller guy, I don't know why but it's not my style. In any case, as long as Nintendo keeps supporting this game after launch, I'm sure I will keep coming back to it.

Man, 100 pages of impressions from only what was, essentially, a three-hour test, and most of it is majorly positive. Biggest surprise was just how stable the entire experience was, just comes to show how well Nintendo can actually do this stuff if they try.

It seems like this demo paid off in a pretty big way. Nintendo did good. Should be incredibly exciting to see how this all unfolds when the game launches, I've got faith that it'll be something special if today's wild ride was of any indication.

Ah that makes sense, that's nice of you to at least give them a chance to get their hands on it.

I liked it, but I don't think it's the kind of game I could really justify paying $60 for. If it ever drops to to $40 or below on an eShop sale, I'll probably snag it.

Same boat. Really enjoyed it but 69.99 Canadian is a tough pill to swallow for any game ...

Since I played with headphones, I noticed a little sound detail that I want to share.

When you're in squid form and restoring ink, listen carefully. When it plays a subtle jingle, you have enough ink for your subweapon.

Oh, I don't know if it's been mentioned but matches can start with less than 4 players per team. Happened to me once, with my team having 3 people from the start versus the other team's 4.

Damn, got my times wrong and missed the third slot. Missed the first one too, and only played half an hour of the second. Still, I experienced enough to be very excited for the full game. Really hope this sells well and gets the recognition it deserves.

Secretly wished that after the last session the game would be available for a few days more... I forgot Nintendo was still Nintendo.
Well game is only 35€ on retail so maybe I'll bite.

I'm still in the tutorial painting everything blue and I am able to take screenshots and upload them to my flickr through the home button O:

Did anyone else do this as well?

See, I'm not sure about the usefulness of this technique. Possibly getaways and moving in heavily enemy painted areas. Assuming this is you, you can see your teammate with the Charger covering the same, if not more ground until the very last part of the gif.

Someone DC'd in a match or they just quit (IDK) and it really hurt the match. Ah well 'tis the whole point of this.
Does the match continue if someone disconnects then? Man, some people might be angry at me because I got... a number of disconnects in the last session.

I sure didn't!

that's awesome!

I did it a few times on accident but it never occurred to me to go across the whole stage that way lol
You guys gotta try it when the game comes out!

Yes, yes I did. It's fun.
Hell yeah!
