I Just Got 'The Call' - Buddy at Store Buying PS3; What 3 Games to Buy?!?

Pretty funny; I actually had that moment today. Brother-in-law calls me, says he's at Best Buy to get a PS3, and wants to get three games.

I instantly pictured the show Supermarket Sweep, and pictured myself running down the Best Buy aisles scooping everything into my cart while maniacally laughing. Then I pulled myself together and recommended the following combo.

MGS4
Uncharted
UFC 09

This seemed like a good starter pack for him, based on his interests.

Anyone else have a similar experience; someone calls you and asks you to create a fantasy gaming bundle? I felt a lot of pressure hyping Uncharted, he had never heard of it; so I had to sell him on it. I felt like a telemarketer. "Oh god, you don't want that.... You want this.."

I'm surprised after E3 you didn't suggest that he buy a 360.

From my experiences, MGS4 is bad for people who haven't played the previous games.
 
If one of my friends did this, I'd call him a moron for not researching this beforehand, tell him I had no idea what he would/wouldn't like, then recommend:
--Ninja Gaiden Sigma
--MGS4
--Uncharted
 
Interestingly, he had heard good things about inFamous, so apparantly word about it is getting out there to at least some non-forum goers. I told him it was awesome.
 
just three ? srsly there are too much great games...huuumm ..just go by Sony Divisions

Tell him to hold off on MGS4 for a few days to save some cash, unless its already $30. They are making it a greatest hits title in right about now. From the sounds of it, he may of already gotten it though... Wait, he got it as best buy... Just remind him to price adjust it.
 
Your brother-in-law sounds like a casual gamer. Asking for advice choosing three games? I dunno, MGS4 was probably a bad choice. Its a good game but i would never recommend it to anyone who wasnt a hardcore gamer that i knew would get into the MGS series, and its def. the most casual friendly of all the 3d MGS games.

I might have suggest an arcadey-type racing game instead, probably Burnout Paradise or Motorstorm. That paired with UFC and Uncharted would have been a nice genre sampler and then you can recommend more games based on which of those he liked best.

Killzone and Resistance 2 would have been nice choices aswell.

The best technical showcases of the PS3 so far, and also damn good games.

Third one is a crapshoot. Could be any number of titles depending on taste. InFamous, MGS4, LittleBigPlanet, etc.

Read both, still felt like mentioning three games worthy of forum promotion. :D I'm not sure the thread has any point, taken otherwise.
 
A few months ago, some people I knew got PS3's and I pushed them to get Uncharted. I recommended some other stuff, but I insisted that they get Uncharted. They all loved it. It satisfied the need for amazing graphics and gameplay! :D
 
The calls novelty wears off pretty quick. I work the call. It's cool at first when people ask you what games they should get, and a lot of the time it's a nice feeling - especially when they come back and are like "You were so right, that was amazing!". But goddamn... do you know how many times I get random parents asking me what their 4 year old girl would like on the Wii/DS/PS2 - I just give the parents something with Imagine in the name and call it a day.
 
Man, I hope that guy has played all the other Metal Gear games. Even then, he might hate you for that.

Can't go wrong with Uncharted though.
 
I'd advise him to get a few cheaper games on top of Uncharted/Killzone 2 or MGS4 depending on taste. Maybe throw in Burnout Paradise $20 or Motorstorm 1 $20, Fight Night Round 3 $20, and Resistance 1 $20. He'll have a lot of game for a long time with that setup.

If he's at all into arcade racers he simply must own Motorstorm Pacific Ridge. It's an incredibly fun game.
 
I didn't play any of the previous MGS games and I loved the 4th. Depending on the style of games he likes he might not be disappointed like everyone is claiming.
 
You don't sound like much of a friend/in-law if you told him to buy MGS4. That's sadistic. But good on suggesting Uncharted.

Stop whoring Valkyria Chronicles. Not everyone would like that game and it's definitely not the "top 3" to buy when buying a console.
