I Just Got 'The Call' - Buddy at Store Buying PS3; What 3 Games to Buy?!?

Did you told your friend to buy component cables (at least) for it?

Also, for first time buyers it's always better to start low..in the case of him, it would have been better to buy at least one (really good) game and one Blu-ray movie (that looks really crisp and detailed with nice extras)..

Basically a reason, for him to be blown away at first and justify his purchase..

But good recommendations, since he's starting.... Uncharted alone would've been a great choice because:
1. Looks incredible
2. It's short, but playable more than 1 time
3. Has a sequel coming soon (so, hype hype hype)

Plus a movie, though I haven't been following Blu-ray releases, usually Pixar/CG movies are the best examples to show "Blu-ray quality")..

Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
Valkyria Chronicles
LittleBigPlanet

That's basically my three once I pick up a PS3. Notice how they're all good games.

I'd tell him not to buy any games. Get the system home, take it out the box, set it up and get that new system feel to it... then start downloading every demo in sight. There are so many demos on the PSN that he'll be busy for a week. That way he can get a taste over pretty much everything that is out there and decide for himself instead of overwhelming himself with too many new games at once.

Anyone else have a similar experience; someone calls you and asks you to create a fantasy gaming bundle? I felt a lot of pressure hyping Uncharted, he had never heard of it; so I had to sell him on it. I felt like a telemarketer. "Oh god, you don't want that.... You want this.."

Funny you said that. I usually do that sometimes whenever I goto Bestbuy/Futureshop. If I people picking up a shitty game or a bad product and they look REALLY CONFUSED, I jump in and say things like "why are you buying a headset for $54 when you can buy a headset AND a great game for $59? *points to SOCOM*

or like the other day a guy was looking for a single-player jetfighting game (this was prior to launch of HAWX) for PS3 and the bestbuy "expert" pointed to Warhawk, saying shit like "This game is so much fun! It has great single-player experience!" and I said "err... no it doesn't. Infact, it doesn't even have single-player. It's multiplayer only but it's great multiplayer game!"

The best three PS3 games right here.

You point to Socom instead of Warhawks...Mister Expert?! >_>

Anyways, I'd tell him to pick up a BluRay and Order the games on Amazon. No Tax is lovely

3 Games?
Warhawks
Little Big Planet
I'd probably have him go with COD4 or Uncharted for the 3rd.

MGS4
GTA:IV (assuming he doesn't have a 360)

Those are the only two that I see as completely essential gaming experiences

So for the third, depending on genre interests:

Shooter: Killzone 2
Arcade Racing: Burnout Paradise
Action/Adventure: Uncharted or Dead Space
Platforming: LittleBigPlanet
Sports (generally): UFC
RPG: Valkyria Chronicles
Strategy: Same as above

If he wants the best bang for his buck (most hours of quality gameplay per $$), then I would still recommend MGS4 and GTA:IV, as you can sink 30-60 hours into each and both can be had for around $30, then I would recommend downloading Burnout: Paradise from PSN.

An HDMI cable from monoprice would be cheaper than component cables... definitely make sure to recommend that he NOT buy any cables from anywhere other than monoprice or a comparable online dealer.

If I had to sell someone 3 PS3 games, knowing only that it was a male buyer, I think I would chose:

-Uncharted - gorgeous, solid 3rd person shooter and fun story
-Infamous - a free roaming, 'GTA-type' game
-Soul Calibur IV - multiplayer, easy to pick up and it has the recognizable Star Wars characters

I picked those mainly because they are all solid games, and offer pretty different experiences all around.

Pretty funny; I actually had that moment today. Brother-in-law calls me, says he's at Best Buy to get a PS3, and wants to get three games.

I instantly pictured the show Supermarket Sweep, and pictured myself running down the Best Buy aisles scooping everything into my cart while maniacally laughing. Then I pulled myself together and recommended the following combo.

MGS4
Uncharted
UFC 09

This seemed like a good starter pack for him, based on his interests.

Yeah..but his friend was basically on an "impulse buy" situation...since he was buying the console at that very moment.

Not buying any kind of "hi def" cables, means using the PS3 through (the default) composite cables (up to 480i)..and if he has a hi-def set..it makes matters worse..and then would be no point on buying a PlayStation 3..with movies and games..to play on 480i....it doesn't look bad on a regular TV, but still .. :p
