Yes exactly, I was the top scorer every match I had the roller, it's easy to splat the other players even. I hope they fix it though I won't be there at launch. I just did the same thing over and over for half a dozen matches, don't care that I was the top scorer and my team won, it became boring.
The roller can be easily countered with ranged shots as it has already been heavily discussed over more than a hundred pages. It's likely that (by staying in the same room) you met players who didn't really know how to deal with a decent roller player.

There's nothing to fix. You took advantage of easy mode vs people learning to play the game. You didn't break anything. :)

Learn to use the roller.

See above.

I've been able to take out rollers easy though with splattershot and splattoshot jr.

A good Charger user will also be able to take care of rollers pretty easily since they'll be out of the shaking thingy range.

It's just that right now almost everybody is still garbage with the charger, what with all the chronic overcharging (guilty here!) and bad lines.

Did you quit Smash 4 a couple days after launch cause Little Mac was OP against people learning the game too?

Seriously, roller's skill curve seems similar to Little Mac. Hard to use at first cause it's different, then OP for a short bit because people don't understand how to play against it, then relatively balanced because it's really limited in what it can do.

Never had that issue, as I said I was easily the top scorer every match.

Maybe, will wait the confirm that.

You didn't run into me then.

Then there's nothing for me to play here. From my experience it very much is, that's why most the players in my matches had the roller.

Anyways, lover the idea and hope Nintendo makes it into an functual online shooter.

We got only 4 sets, 4 weapons, and there are FAR more style of weapons, subweapons and specials coming, abilities too.

This is like saying you are not buying Smash because you played the 3DS demo with 5 characters and Villager seems too broken.

I hate Smash Bros. and still regret the $10 I spent on Melee so I don't know what you are talking about.

Basically, you were playing Little Mac when Smash 3DS first came out. Nothing was broken, everyone was bad(dealing with gyro controls), and the Roller puts out the most ink giving you a lot of points.

Wait, when did you start playing? The last event I started seeing less rollers and more splattershot jr.'s because people moved on from rollers and thinking they were OP. Rollers essentially became the Little Mac of Splatoon for a bit.

So awesome.

For some reason, I strongly approve of this image.

The roller is a noob killer weapon which is very good at covering territory but not actually that great at self defense. If you play someone who has any idea what they're doing you'll quickly realize you're at the disadvantage in battle. The majority of the people you went up against were playing the game for the first time and don't know what they're doing or how to deal with the roller.

Yes, I did not with corrections (which includes additions) I will be happy to try it again, jut not at launch if the beta is any indication of where it will be then.

at most everyone playing has had 3 hours of play time

I was wrecking rollers like it was my 9-5 with the splattershot jr

I have no doubt that this game is very well balanced, people just need to better grasp the controls and mechanics of the game

you'll see soon enough, the roller isn't anywhere close to being OP and it's actually balanced quite well

The first session for me, the roller felt OP. The second and third? Roller players were easy targets and I took down more roller players than perhaps any other 'class'.

I also wonder how effective Rollers will be in Splat Zones....

I played in all three goes though I only caught the trail end of the second one. Yeah, rollers did drop off though that didn't stop me from dominating with it.

I did notice an uptick in player ability but it was difficult to deal with them, swim from fights you can't win and destroy in those you can. The fact that most idiots couldn't keep winning with the roller doesn't change the fact that it's overpowered in the hands of those who know what they are doing.

I was the top player every round I played and I used the splattergun and splattergun Jr. The rounds I did best in were against teams consisting mostly of rollers.

As long as there are still people who think Roller is OP, we have failed.

Saying this as someone who loves to roll.

Let them use rollers all they want. They'll get picked off by splattershots and splat chargers all day err'day ;)

Testfire was wonderfully balanced. The problem was that players needed to learn how to play. Taking down first time players and calling the game broken/roller OP is quite frankly ridiculous lol.

Only had time for one session yesterday. Really liked it though I was always 4th in my team when I used something other than the roller. The motion controls assisted aiming takes some time to get used to but I missed it in the two or three matches I turned it off.

One thing I hope that is in the final game is something like a shotgun. I feel that would feel so good in this game. Another thing I wish is that I could play it with M/KB. Maybe I unlearned how to play a shooter with an controller but I think I would get most out of the mobility if I would play it with my mouse and keyboard.

You missed the third session where people were getting the hang of killing rollers.

Watch this match. The roller team can't leave their base. They don't have the range to fight someone that can aim.

yeah one big thing that made rollers seem OP at first was that people with splattershots and charge shots weren't taking better advantage of getting higher ground. that's one of the rollers' main disadvantages.

Oh come on, the roller could easily get around the steam roller and splatted it :).

Playing idiots doesn't change the fact it's overpowered. Though I guess it does for most people.

And in what way exactly is it overpowered? No matter how skilled you are with it, it is at a clear disadvantage against a skilled user with a ranged weapon. It is good at spreading paint, true, but it also has clear disadvantages that the other weapons are better at.

My point is that if you do know what you're doing of course you're going to have no trouble dealing with people who don't, especially with the roller. This doesn't make the roller broken, it just means you're better than than the average player in the demo, most of which are expected to not be very good.

Most points come from painting territory, if you run into a situation with a ranged weapon you can't win, then withdraw and paint somewhere else. With only 8 players and a big map, there is always somewhere else to paint.

At least with walleye warehouse, the higher platforms are not that tall. I was able to make a few kills with a flick of the roller.

I'll concede since I like where you point is going, but it still means I won't be getting the game anytime soon.

And I can splat over that whole path you just painted with 2 splat charger shots, for example. After picking you off from a safe distance.

I don't like fighting games. I thought Smash Bros. might be the fighting game that drew me in, but it wasn't. I have nothing against the game itself, just not a genre I like.

I can respect this.

But yeah, I think you just got lucky with your matchups, I used mostly the splatter and most opposing opponents had rollers, really good roller players that would sneak up on you and cover your escape route, and i could beat them most of the time just staying away from them, launching granades and aiming while jumping, they are beatable and not OP, I think the balance its looking fine.

The roller is easy mode and lots of fun ... after playing the charge shot first and switching to the roller, I too believed it to be overpowered.

Then I started playing with the splattershot ... and got destroyed by the rollers.

Then I actually learned how to play, and suddenly, the rollers no longer owned. That's not to say there aren't some skilled roller players, but, right now, I can't see it as OP when you have so many options to take them out quickly.

lol i was also top of scoreboard first playthrough with roller. Thought it was OP but then third playthough with it I was getting #rekt by splatershot jr users so I switched it up ;)
