Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

People holding out on gameplay before pledging.

Do remember the point of the Kickstarter is to gain enough money to assure development is actually possible.

I think starting development on a game that is unsure with no starting funds to make development possible in the first place and THEN rely on a Kickstarter is somewhat backwards.

I really don't see the issue with Inti Creates either. They made some of the finest platformers available on the GBA, DS and Digital release (i.e Megaman Zero, ZX, and Megaman 9 and 10)

If we wrote of an entire dev based on one project (Mighty No. 9) then pretty much every single developer in the market would have been written off then. Just something to consider.

IGA + Yamane? FUCK YEAH!!

Kojima is missing but art looks decent enough

----reads is 2.5D----

We want this!!

Beautiful detailed 2d sprite work!!

Is ok if is low res!!

I wanted so bad to back this, but now I can't.

I like how they charge hundreds and thousands of dollars, then still want $30 for international shipping.

Consider who he used to work for, and it all makes sense.

Time and time again we get titles with an influence of his work. He deserves to have his project funded. I think he'll do just fine with this.

David Hayter on there as a stretch goal is crazy.

I went and cancelled one of my other projects and I put a pledge down for me, myself, and I.

No, don't. (And they won't, read the pitch)

It's a seriously ineffective way of spending your budget. I'd much rather have a large and varied 2.5D game than a tiny or repetitive sprite-based one.

This just isn't true. Lots of small teams, or even individuals, have been able to make pretty nice looking sidescrollers using only 2D art and animation. There may be any number of reasons for going after polygons rather than 2d art, ranging from "we like it better" to "just because", but 2D being non-viable for budget reasons just doesn't pass the smell test with me.

I want to back. I do one Kickstarter a year and this might be my choice, but I'm pretty broke right now. Might just do the $5 tier and up it to physical in a few months.

Anyone else think the potential work of David Hayter is another jab at Konami(by both of them)?
He's probably one of my favorite Voice Actor's and not just because of MG

Fine by me. 2.5d can look attractive given the right art design.

Though IMO the colors in the concept art are a bit too bright for me.

if they can reproduce the magic from guilty gear, i'm fine with 2.5d.
if they cant'...i'll be bummed, but i'm still psyched for the game

I'll back this under duress. I'd really prefer a Wii U or 3DS game. Kinda weirded out about the "Why not Nintendo" section of the kickstarter too.

It should have been vanillaware 2D i think.

Problem is that with 3D, it'll be hard to manage an organic gothic look like Castlevania games. I mean they will need to put a lot of detail in that, bloodborne style, and have some cloth physics for the characters etc.. or it'll look too simplistic.

i'm worried he mention Strider.. Stridr isn't a bad looking game but it's cold as fuck and has none of the charm of an old game, visually..

I usually take the time to read/watch the pitch first and assess how much they creator want's for what's in return and when it would be delivered. Not this time as I fumbled to get my login details correct on the third try.

Regards to Unity vs UE4, seeing as quite a few Unity games I've played have some framepacing issues which really, really do sour games in this vain, UE4 is a much better choice.

Not sure that I care for their attempt at creating social media tools with their "backer achievements."

Still, good campaign; goals and rewards are reasonable. A physical copy option is a nice surprise I didn't see coming, and the music sounds great.

What is a mod?
A miserable little pile of posting privileges.

If they're going Wii U, then UE4 is pretty much out of the question.
Yeah, I wonder how they will handle that for the inevitable stretch goal.

Personally, I'd prefer if they just focus on high-end platforms rather than stretching themselves too thin, but I realize that not everyone sees it that way.

Also MN9 plays great. I can understand people having a problem with the art style but this is clearly aiming for a completely different theme.

I bet they are thinking about a complementing game if they get enough funds. That one would probably be made with the last gen and WiiU in mind.

Already at over $120k. The lead's design looks good, and looking to GGXrd for their approach with the graphics sounds promising.

I edited my post :P. I now want it to look similar to Abyss Odyssey, a game with a very Castlevania feel and gorgeous 3D art. I forgot that it's possible for a good 3D style with 2D gameplay like AO.
