Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

Can you upgrade tiers later? I know I at least want to go in for the $100 tier, but I might want to go all the way up to $300 for the signed box.
Yes, as long as a tier is not limited and gone you can always upgrade (or downgrade) before the end.

I wasn't there, but a friend of mine who attended the tech panel for Xrd at GDC told me that they said their engine wouldn't really work very well with a big Action/Adventure game or RPG. I'm guessing the reason why it looks so good is that they're only dealing with small stages and 2 characters at a time.
I don't really see how the character rendering (which is what people like about it most) depends in any way on the size of the stages.

Whatever budget this game winds up with will probably be too low to compete on a pixel art level with the best-looking 2D games. They'll get the best results for their budget with polygons.
Exactly.

I'm OK with 2.5D. Dracula X Chronicles was fine on PSP and I have to imagine this will look at least better than that!

Yeah I'm sure a small team on a small budget can probably do that

uhhhhh the team that made GGXrd is not a big team lol

Also they have pretty much told everyone how they got GGXrd to look the way it does, so its possible we will see more studios pick up on the style.

Awesome concept art !!! :D

Inti Creates ??? :)

2.5D ??? : |

Unreal Engine ??? : /

Come on, we have seen how Mighty Nine ended, and this is exactly the same conditions.

Not going to back this. Will buy if it eventually looks good when released.

I love how everyone pretends Iga is just like Inafune. Fuck off outta here with that attitude if you don't know who you're talking about.

Assuming you mean Ayami since the other Kojima is a hack and Lords of Shadow sucked balls

There is only one Kojima that matters when it comes to Castlevania.

Iga also has his share production failures Nanobreaker, I dont trust any of them no matter how shitty is Konami with dealing with talent.

Nothing wrong with Unreal Engine when it comes to 2D stuff, or 2D looking stuff. Same with 2.5D It doesnt mean the game will look or play strangely. Sure there is a 50/50 chance, but yeah.

I'm glad this is getting made but the timelines on these kickstarter campaigns for games are somewhat crazy. Will be looking forward to the actual release and they can have my money then.

I've turned a complete 180 on the 2D/2.5D stuff. 2.5D will look soooooooooooooooooooo much better in higher resolutions than 2D ever could. It's future proofing your game essentially, if they say they're gonna use UE4 and some special shaders to make it look as good as possible, I believe them. I doubt IGA would let it turn out looking like doodoo.

Tech doesn't future proof, art style future proofs. Every time.

You can always change pledge tiers while the campaign is happening.
Weather or not you can do that once it's concluded is dependent on weather they have a pledge manager up after.

Cool, thanks guys.

In for $100 for right now, though I could definitely go to $300 before this ends.

Since I don't follow MN9: Has everybody turned on it? What's so bad about it? Just the visuals?
A lot of the negative reaction came from Inafune and co. asking for more funding for things like voice-acting.

I think the visuals look meh, but it's not like the original Megaman games looked great.

Oh, I have no doubt that even with the time, team size and budget that an adventure game couldn't look exactly like Xrd. But I wonder if they could still make something mindblowing with the same tech. The camera would be pulled out, so only bosses would look big like Xrd characters. I'd at least like to see them given the opportunity to pull it off. It's just such an impressive game on many levels.

Can someone clarify WTF is wrong with Mighty No. 9? The in-game footage shown looks fine. It's not as crisp as the concept and the perspective angle is a little different but that's it.

As long as the gameplay is there I'm in, I trusted Inafune, and I trust IGA to design games I like.

Maybe this looks good on a smaller PSP screen but on my computer? Meh

2.5D doesn't mean the game will look like garbage.

It can even look 2D.

Sigh.

But but but Mighty No. 9 and and RAGGEEEEEEEEEEE

On a serious note, while I really wish they had some gameplay footage to show to alleviate any fears and people are well within their right to be careful with their money, I really wish people wouldn't assume that because the game is 2.5D that it will look anything like Mighty No. 9 or some other 2.5D game they think looks like shit.

People probably shouldn't expect this to look just like Guilty Gear Xrd either though

I don't care about the 2.5D, but I do care about the lack of good art direction. Add a $ 1.500.000 tier for Ayami Kojima to throw the current "art direction" into a trash bin and set it on fire. This project needs a better art director.

What was wrong with that game?

In fact it doesn't. Even nicest 2.5D game that is GG Xrd still doesn't look as good as pure 2D and be sure that this will look nothing like Xrd.
Which pure 2D are you talking about? Because there's quite a range. Street Fighter III-level spritework is hardly the norm, and I'd say GGXrd, my character design quibbles aside, looks a hell of a lot better than old 2D Guilty Gear with their barely-animated sprites.

I think the problem is that 2.5D can mean a lot and people want to be reassured that it looks nice, but all we have is concept art. It's not that 2.5D can't look great, it's that there's no reassurance that it does. Or, rather, there's no reassurance as to what it looks like AT ALL.
