Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

You forgot to mention that UE4 runs great as well, the UT4 alpha runs and looks absolutely amazing and it's nowhere close to being done.
That's more or less what I mean by "amazing technically" ;)

I'm just glad that we finally get play one of these on a proper freaking screen finally. It's been 18 years since we were last able to.
Agreed.

And on PC too. I hope for 120 FPS support :P

What the fuck is going on with this Kickstarter? I look at it 20 minutes ago and it was at $172k, now it's at $242k? Is this normal? How did it make $70k in 20 minutes?
That's normal for a successful kickstarter.

No Wii U version, no sale. Can't afford to get a good PC, PS4 or XBone right now, and it'll probably be that way for a while.
Is awhile going to be longer than 2 years (probably 3 or something)? Granted it'd be nice to know it'll run on what you have NOW, but logically the more pressing concern is affording the Kickstarter, not hardware what will be cheaper by release.

I'm in.

Woohoo someone else crazy enough to pay for the art book.

I'm in for $150. I want that artbook.

It always feels good to know I am not the only crazy person buying the art book.

Sorry if I sound dense but what's the difference between the $100 and $125 pledge? Do you get TWO copies (physical & Digital)?

The current art style looks reminiscent of Muramasa Rebirth, which is fine by me. All of these kickstarters are actually looking to be good.

Yeah no way this is gonna reach wiiu, still i think using this engine for this type of game in expense of other consoles releases, is overkill but whatever....maybe i get it on pc or when i get a ps4 later in the year.

Easily some of the most carny moves I've ever seen, this entire project. Absolutely atrocious and I believe Heel and Dream are right on expecting a "Digital Delivery Fee" - I would not be surprised in the least to see that liberty taken with this fanbase.

It's kind of amazing what people are willing to let slide, based solely on the fact a person made a game they liked a few decades ago.

I think some of these nickel and dime practices would be getting torn to shreds in any other context.

Well, here we have it. I will admit, I am disappointed to learn it's 2.5D but I understand that modern resolutions and budgets tend to make it difficult to do otherwise. Inticreates handling dev duties after the bland look MN9 ultimately came to embody is likewise something that gives me pause.

Much worse is the lack of Ayami Kojima. This art they have instead is doing nothing for me. A generic, big titted anime girl in a gothic lolita fetish costume is not what I wanted. The artist's drafting style is too obviously generic anime rather than influenced by classical Western composition and the shading style is digital painting trying to look like water colors rather than going for the dark and somber oil painting look that made Symphony and its progeny feel so regal and ancient. These new characters look like they belong in a third rate modern jRPG rather than the Baroque and Medieval figures like Alucard and Simon everyone remembers best.

All that said, I'm still on board even if my enthusiasm is dented. At least it doesn't appear to be Freemium or F2P focused. And if nothing else, it's absolutely great to have Iga back in the saddle. It's been far too long.

Eh, I'm happy this is the end result in terms of being similar versus what happened when they leaped from Aria of Sorrow to Dawn of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin. This along the lines of Order of Eclesia's direction, the protag is clearly notShanoa.

Exactly what i feal, i was expecting something more like this.

If nothing changes i will unfortunetly not back this and skip this game.

Well, I've been playing them on handhelds ever since so it's basically a part of the experience for me already, that's why I was expecting at least one handheld version :(

Which pure 2D are you talking about? Because there's quite a range. Street Fighter III-level spritework is hardly the norm, and I'd say GGXrd, my character design quibbles aside, looks a hell of a lot better than old 2D Guilty Gear with their barely-animated sprites.
2D, sprite works, i don't know how you call it.
The quality of the DS/GBA games were plenty enough, i think no one expected the animation to have the number of frames of SF3 if ever happened to be 2D.

Oh boo-hoo.

2.5D is fine, and we know nothing about how well of a spiritual successor it'll be in terms of scope and themes.
So you are insulting me because i have expressed my opinions? Well aren't you the most educate person around...

Add a Wii U stretch goal and I'm in. Even if it's like $2mil, I don't care, it would at least tell me that it's in the pipeline for release some day.

Female protagonist is cool. Would be awesome to see some Ecclesia influence here, as it's easily my favorite of both GBA/DS trilogies.

Can I pay double for Ayami Kojima to be on the team? Her work is sorely missed.

I don't think she is that active in video games anymore too be honest, but I'm sure someone else knows more. I do think the artist they have has done some very nice designs though. Very reminiscent of IGAs Castlevania work outside of DoS and PoR.

Iga going "Woooo" after being told it's 50% funded already. 8 hour stream was a great idea to kick this off. :D

Honestly, the problem with most Kickstarters not meeting funding is the lack of marketing or getting the word out there (which is understandable considering the budgets of some small studios) but they're doing real well here. Simultaneous news stories on big gaming websites each of a different nature or a different interview, the Kickstarter achievements to get social media presence.

This is going to make it easily but should do real well above the amount they want too.

Which makes me excited, art style be damned. This is my favorite genre made by my favorite maker of said games so I don't give a good goddam about any misgivings.

I can't believe I'm actually, just the tiniest bit, tempted by the $3000 "pet boss" tier, just so I can have the rest of the world experience the hellish torment I go through on a daily basis dealing with my brother's piece of shit demon bastard cat.

It is unreasonable to expect for someone of Ayami Kojima's caliber not to be working somewhere already and doing her own thing, it's been years since the last proper Castlevania game.

I definitely burned out on Igavanias at some point but it's been long enough now and I think Ori also got me fiending for something like this. Backed for a physical copy.

Just noticed the expected ETA is March 2017. I guess at least they're being cautious.

I mean realistically, given the fact that we've only seen concept art, they probably haven't even prototyped what they want the game to really look like. MN9 didn't have a prototype video until a couple weeks in I think.
