Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

They admitted they don't need you to fund this game, that they have an outside publisher.

Kickstarter is for generating marketing buzz in this case.

Granted that also precludes a real picture of an actual game because that's of no use for game marketing.

That outside publisher, whose name I'd like to know, would only put up any money if this Kickstarter was a success. That is to say this Kickstarter needs to succeed for the the game to get made (it will) but that their budget will be higher that the total at the end of the campaign.

Just pledged $100 for this. This is my first Kickstarter I have ever pledged and feel comfortable with this decision. I am pumped for this, bring on some more metroidvania!

Different goals. How long did it take to get to 1 million dollars? I don't think Iga's game will match that.

Why not? It's already at 435K and its be what, 2-3 hrs? With most people are just getting in from work. I except this to surpass 1 million or damned close easily. Tossing in $150. I needs this.

No no, IGvania! But agreed, this fantastic!

Yooka took 7 hours. It broke records. I don't think this will hit it as fast, but it's easily hitting 500K soon imo. I think the lack of Nintendo platforms (for now) is going to hurt it in the long run though, since that's where the fanbase is apart from Sony.

Pretty much.

Once they announce a Wii U or 3DS port, I'll bump my backing to a physical box.

The screen tearing (sometimes DOUBLE tearing) on the Guacamelee stream is killing me. I thought it was my computer or something, but it seems internal to the stream itself.

I'm going to wait a short while before making a decision on backing or not, to see if any more info is revealed. What was revealed so far is a bit too lean IMO.

I'm also not a big fan of the tiers. I'll probably settle on the $28 tier, but I'd also like a digital download of the soundtrack. It'd be nice if there was a $35-40 tier that was just a digital copy of the game + digital copy of the soundtrack.

Yooka-Laylee's KS has been handled better so far.

This looks great and I'm certainly interested but I'm never backing a Kickstarter again after Mighty No. 9, especially when IGA is clear about their external funding and the fact that they'll certainly hit their KS goals.

Will support upon release.

430 000$ in 4 hours...And they only have 32 days to get to 500 000$. I say pull the KS and resubmit it with a manly man main character, and a more "bro" aesthetic for instant success and win, and such.

Get a new artist. Preferably the one who did the character art for the first Darksiders. And kick Iga out. Replace Yamane with John Williams.

I've never known Inti to be anything but extremely responsive to criticism of their games. Assuming that this is what the MN9 team is moving on to, all the shots that've been fired at how that game looks will pay dividends here.

This seems true. They've been very clear that they will listen to backers with regards to the graphics filters and such they intend to use.

Well, I'll say this:

As a lifelong fan of Castlevania, I have zero problems backing this project. Once swordvswhip.com went up, I was already all in. (As a matter of fact, I backed it for $300.) Prelim artwork (that I like, mind you) isn't a make or break for me.

Either you want to back this game or you don't. If you were on the fence about it, that's completely understandable, but let's not act as if those that are backing are being idiots about it.

Sorry if this comes across wrong, but I don't want to feel like an ass because I chose to back a game.

I'm sure they want that too, but a four year development time is simply not feasible for a Kickstarter game. Ori and The Blind Forest had the financial backing of Microsoft so they could afford to take their time and have an incredibly lengthy development period.

$500,000 is a laughable amount when you are talking about paying 10+ people $60,000+ annually.

After watching the video I thought that the kickstarter thing was just to satisfy the people who they said wanted to help fund them but wouldn't until they knew whether or not people wanted a game like this, hence the kickstarter.

If $500'000 really is their budget then yeah, that is a different story.

I'm a total 2D whore and zealot, and I know this is a holy day with the Saturn being 20 years old in NA, but there's no reason to assume 2.5D is going to be ugly in a post Guilty Gear Xrd/Child of Light world.

that's great but it needs the wine glass smash as he says it's nothing but trash..

We need one with the wine glass being thrown, if possible.

David Hayter? Kickstarter designed to stick it to Konami - they're sure striking when the iron is hot.

Character designs look OK, wasn't crazy about the girl's design but it grew on me the more I saw it in context.

People need to stop thinking of Kickstarter of a pre-order service and see it for what it is: a platform to fund projects you think are cool. Most of the non-videogame Kickstarter start with ideas/concepts as well instead of fully fleshed out products.

In this case, you have the father of the Castlevania that we love, some people from the old staff including the woman who made timeless music for those titles and from the looks of it a capable team motivated and ready to make that idea reality.

As I said previously, the only thing that makes me unsure is the flash-animation'esque art design in that concept art, but I've followed enough games and projects to know that the gab between concept and product can be rather huge. In the end, no matter how it'll look like, if it has the typical Iga flavour, then I'm in. Besides, it's 2D drawn concept art when the final product is a 2.5D game.

Iga created enough great memories for me that I'm ready to follow him.

Yeah. I'd have backed this at $175 immediately if there were Nintendo platforms involved. As it stands now I'll be waiting to see what happens in that regard.

I don't like the character design much but... everything else is exciting. Tempted to back at the physical tier... I don't like how there's exclusive content for physical copies though.

Yamane being on board is <3

That David Hayter goal is such a "fuck you" to Konami.
Hehe. Is David Hayter's career funded strictly by KS stretch goals now? >_>

I can't believe people are somehow using UE4 as a negative point in this thread.

Seriously, UE4 is fantastic. Not only is it an amazing engine technically, it also offers an extremely productive toolchain.

It being used should give you a huge confidence boost in both the game's technical quality and the team's ability to make effective use of their time to produce content.

There's no reassurance a 2D game looks great either. Just that it will cost a lot to produce varied high-resolution 2D assets.
Yeah, in the Twitch interview Iga explained the decision to use 2.5D and it made perfect sense.

Symphony of the Night
=> Ritual of the Night

Bloodborne => Bloodstained

Iga absolutely shameless.
looool come on. It's an Igavania game, of course it's gonna have words about Night and Blood, geez.

Probably not backing this for now. Too lean of a kickstarter for me to back ($28 for basically nothing shown), although I like Iga's Metroidvania games, and wish him & the team the best. inti Creates have really disappointed me so far with Mighty No.9 as well, so there's that.

But handhelds :( I don't think I'm backing this, but I'll buy if it turns out fine. I'm not a huge CV fan (and I actually much prefer classicvania) like I'm a huge Mega Man fan, and I recently backed Happy Hell, so yeah. People will whine when the game doesn't look like the concept art, just wait and see.

I really hope those don't happen. And I don't see how they'd run UE4 on 3DS.

I'm with you on that. Not to be mean to Wiiu or 3ds people, I myself have more games on each of those systems then on any other current gen system, but because I don't want the game held back by it.
