Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

I'm a little bummed that I'll have to play it on PC (not by much, since my PC is "comfy couch" enabled), mostly because their excuse is trash. They are not making a game that won't run on Wii U (or X360/PS3, for that matter).

They are using UE4. Wii U, Xbox 360 and PS3 aren't supported by UE4. It's quite simple, really.

Currently backed at the $60 tier. I'm not against bumping it up further to $100, but I'd like to see some additional stretch goals first.

Backed with extreme quickness, but just for the base game.

The pitch video was great though, the wine glass toss was class.

Two Kickstarters in one day (the other being for Archie comics), after a LONG stretch of nothing on there for me.

It's because it's built on Unreal 4, which doesn't support the Wii U. Not that the Wii U can't run it, just that it would require a different engine. If they had enough money to make an Unreal 3 or Unity version we could see Wii U and Vita, maybe.

I think Ill go in for 100 maybe a bit more.

One of the very, very rare times I invest anything into a KS.

Something shady going on here. $500,000 doesn't seem correct, especially farming it out to a work for hire dev like Inti Creates.

I don't understand why there's so much discussion here about Mighty No 9. That game is not even out yet and people are talking about making decisions on Bloodstained based on "how Mighty No 9 turned out". It hasn't turned out at all! The game is not even out yet! None of you have played it!

The additional stretch goals are unlocked by doing the achievements, which may have been a mistake depending on how long it takes them to update those achievement tallies. Already gotten a few of them that aren't marked.

Which is pretty dumb. Are the achievements even for stretch goals, though? Doesn't seem like it.

He mentions in the video that upon reaching their initial goal they'll get further funding from a third party.

Iga better throw up some additional stretch goals today so as to not lose momentum. A third character, more modes, music, weapons, swordchucks, bosses or in-game areas. Something. Or an Ayami Kojima goal. Then watch the backing skyrocket even further.

gotta unlock the additional stretch goals~

Something that has bugged me about a bunch of kickstarters is how they don't update the goals being met faster. I know it's meaningless, but things should be crossed out by now. >:C

Well I mean if nothing else, this thread has certainly shown me that MN9's negative buzz extends far beyond anyone who was ever interested in the game, and that it's going to get torn a new one at launch

I wish i had $10,000+, that would make for awesome vacation experience.

And I'm hoping for a physical release on the WiiU, i know chances are slim, but one can hope.

Did anyone mention the gamasutra's Q&A? It has an interesting tidbits about the budget.

http://gamasutra.com/view/news/2431...arashi_returns_with_new_game_Bloodstained.php

The details I received say that the game already has funding -- can you talk about the source of that funding, and why you are also going to Kickstarter?

KI: All I can say right now is that after over a year of talking with just about every publisher out there, I was able to secure funding for about 90 percent of the game with the condition that I prove the market still wants an Igavania game. Kickstarter proved to be a great solution, as it would (hopefully) show that people still want an Igavania game while simultaneously providing funds for the core game.

Does it mean that the real budget of the game is 5m? This would be great.

There's also the thing with people not being super big on the different gameplay style from megaman. the emphasis on charging a dash attack to kill enemies....at least they funded that zero character with a publisher, so you can have a GOOD gameplay style. Sword gameplay has always been super fun in megaman games because it speeds up gameplay in a stylish way.
But that's likely Inafune's call and not Inti Creates. They're basically manpower.

Apparently there was outside backing, but it was conditional on getting backing to prove support for the game

edit: source mentioned.

They've been reiterating that they have an interested publisher who wants an additional push, a proof that there's market for this game, and that ks money are only a part of the funding.

The big potential sticking point to me is the level design. But we've still seen so little of the game so its hard to say conclusively.

I'd bet Gebel or Johannes would be the secondary character

I hope there is a 3rd playable character goal so we can get all three

It's a UE4 game and UE4 doesn't support Wii U, it's pretty cut-and-dry.

Benn Judd inadvertently acknowledged that the art in MN9 was a mistake on the live-stream.

Kind of surprising to be honest.

A handful of achievements will let us see the next two castle stretch goals and then a bunch more would unlock the dungeon stretch goals.

I wonder if a lot of those stretch goals will be hit before we get enough achievements though... =_=

73$ Canadian... I am such a sucker for physical copies and I have a huge feeling that it might be the only way to get it. Ohhh what to do!?

Judging from what they've said so far, the physical copy is probably going to be available in stores but the version that they have on KS right now is the 'backer' edition with KS backer only stuff loaded onto the disc. (which I assume is content for all backers)

Someone make this an avatar, please. :)

Not exact but I didn't have long to work on it.

This is going to be the first thing I invest in on KS since Broken Age. Most things seem iffy or are playing into a nostalgia I don't care about.

UE3 isn't supported by 3DS, but it's still getting Mighty Number 9 in some form. (Hopefully sprite based and using the Azure Striker engine.)

My guess is that they'll the engine they used for their Crayon Shin-Chan and Naruto SD games, probably pre-rendered character sprites over 3d backgrounds.

I, uh... wouldn't get the 3DS version.

It's a UE4 game and UE4 doesn't support Wii U, it's pretty cut-and-dry.

Hyperbolical example: you could program Minesweeper in UE4, but this doesn't mean Wii U can't handle it.

There would obviously be a lot of work in either changing the engine or home-porting UE4, but it's a fitting stretch goal I guess.

It's UE4. Their excuse is legit. UE4 hasn't been ported or w/e you want to call it to the Wii U.

Let's see how many people whine about what they were promised by clearly labeled concept art when the finished 2.5D, Unreal Engine 4 game releases.

They're talking about using shaders to mimic the look of 2D, so that's pretty cool.

I'll be honest, this is playing in to nostalgia too, but holy shit it's nostalgia I can get behind. ALL ABOARD THE HYPE TRAIN

Not that they necessarily can mimic it, but if their inspiration for shader styled 2d is anything like GGXrd I'm completely on board.

It's because it's built on Unreal 4, which doesn't support the Wii U. Not that the Wii U can't run it, just that it would require a different engine.

Epic's said that it's not that Unreal 4 can't run on Wii U (it's a scalable engine) just that it doesn't have support for Wii U, so it's possible they could use the money to try and get it running on Wii U. At least that's my understanding of the situation. Most of the UE4 stuff that doesn't come to Wii U is stuff that wouldn't necessarily run so well on the hardware (and UE3 is supported on the system anyway) but a 2D platformer would presumably be an easier fit.

And I'm hoping for a physical release on the WiiU, i know chances are slim, but one can hope.

Right now, there are no slim chances on this project. Tell them it's something you're interested in -- that's how Kickstarter campaigns add stretch goals, because the demand is high.

Are the achievements for stretch goals, though? Doesn't seem like it.

Scroll down right below the achievements to the "Backer Unlocks". 10 achievements gets the next 2 castle stretch goals viable, 15 gets all the castle ones visible, 30 achievements gets dungeon stretch goals, and 50 gets a bonus stretch goal.

Note that the one for 30 and 50 changes from "view" to "unlock". I don't know if that means that they just get goals at those levels, of if it is missworded.

I can't read this whole thread, but has it been mentioned that the actual budget for the game is about $5M, and the KS is just to show that there's demand to get the rest of the money from their secret publisher?

Should backers be concerned of the potential visual fidelity Bloodstained will have considering Inti Creates also has a hand in that game?

I think there should be a concern, but not as much. MN9 is coming out to pretty much every console lol, so the graphics had to take a hit to ensure that.
