Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

Inticreates staff have developed mainly the Mega Man X series (when they were part of Capcom), Mega Man Zero, ZX / Advent, and MM9 and MM10.

I wouldn't go so far call them "unproven"

If we used one potentially bad project to discredit a developer, then pretty much every developer should be discredited as well.

I just don't understand this. One game ( that isn't out yet) is enough to ruin this entire studio's previous works on the Mega Man Zero and ZX games as well as the newest Shantae game? I don't get it.

My point wasn't that they were incapable of making a good game. If you read the last few pages, it was about the concern that there was no proof of concept and nothing to go on. I'm saying people would be put at much greater ease if they saw the game in action.

How's the quote go? You are only as good as your last success? Something like that at least.

I wish they were transparent about it, but I understand why this is happening.

Publishers are ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED right now - budgets are higher than ever, and they have no idea what will sell.

A lot of this is because Western bizdev people, for the most part, are glorified marketing people and don't actually know anything about games.

I mean, if I were at a publisher I would've funded this in a heartbeat because I know that Iga has a lot of pent-up demand for a new game, he's extremely experienced, and that all of his non-3D games have been profitable.

But most people at publishers don't know any of these things, so it seems risky.

IT WAS KONAMI ALL ALONG.

I think the danger is without being transparent, people will assume that a game like this could be made for $500k or whatever they end up with. It raises expectations while lowering the cost of doing business.

Oh, looks like he is being a little more transparent in other interviews.

So a publisher is putting up 90% of the scaled planned development budget. Congrats for subsidizing a multi-million dollar company efforts.

Really? Producing a game is an investment, sometimes a risky one. Just because a publisher has millions of dollars doesn't mean they'll invest it in a game they view uncertain to flip a profit. KS is a way to validate the demand, and make the investment seem less risky. Fans get the game they want, and the publisher makes a return. You can't always just say you want something and expect it to happen... money talks.

well, time to make a kickstarter account. i don't want to use kickstarter but those limited stuffs surely won't be avaible at launch. let's eat this frog

This is kind of cool but yet here I am in this weird " I don't know what I expected" position.

I have never played a Igavania game and yet it rubs me the wrong way that he can't just put the Castlevania name on it.
Makes me question how much one really possesses something abstract like an intellectual property.
Is a fading company like Konami really entitled to a name like Castlevania if they are not going to cultivate it?
Who should maintain an IP old as Castlevania? Then again, is this Bloodstained game really an Igavania or still connected to the expectations of everything that comes with the Castlevania name?

Uh. Yes, they are entitled to it, it's their IP... and it was theirs long before Iga was working on them. Konami should maintain it; whether they will or not remains to be seen. And yes, obviously it is an Igavania.

Haha...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

*Pledges 60$*

FUCK YESSSSSSS! Also my very first pledge for a kickstarter.

Iga nailed that video and hyped the shit out of me so much.

My issue with the publisher thing is first and foremost that I don't buy the official reasoning for it. IGA has to use Kickstarter to prove a publisher that is potentially willing to invest 4 million that there's actual demand for the game ? Come on. Everyone who follows Kickstarter and the gaming community knew that a new Igavania game is the kind of game that would meet its funding goal on the first day. The Kickstarter pitch could have been a single line saying "A new Igavania coming 2017 to PS4, Xbox One and PC" and it still would have been funded without a problem. And a publisher willing to invest millions doesn't have this amount of insight or the capability to do a little market research?

They're gonna have to roll out more stretch goals soon looks like they'll all be done by tomorrow

If someone would start tallying up the "achievements" we might be able to see some more of them right now. Same with crossing out stretch goals. Game will pass another one of them in like 10-20 minutes and still haven't crossed out the first one. >:C

Why does that make me as angry as it does?

I'd recommend reading the quote underneath.

I THINK we should be able to see the two other castle stretch goals by now.

Its a smokescreen for sure. All i know is the pub better be someone i like. Also if they are getting that many millions to fund the game, this game should be fairly large with great visuals.

Same thing happened with the Veronica Mars movie that started on Kickstarter.
The studio wanted to see if there was an audience for it before funding the film.

Fastest film to reach a million on KS at the time.

Cant rule it out, especially when backtracking is viewed as outdated by most publishers as well as most casual gamers

Yeah getting a bigger player to match or multiply funds from a smaller source(s) is not a new thing in the fundraising world.

in addition to market research, this is also marketing

it seems to be pretty effective no?

I hope there is a 6 mil stretchgoal called 'fuck you, you piece of shit no faith publishers!' Which results in selfpublising:) Only when they reach 5,9 mil ofcourse. Don't burn bridges you haven't crossed yet:)

I might have to pledge $60 for this. This will hit all of its stretch-goals easily. It's like a gigantic fuck off to Konami. Everything from the genre to David Hayter.

Yeah, I've also been watching them closely. It depends on what the hidden secondary achievements are for those rankings, but defiantly met the first ones for each. Well other then tumblr as I don't even know how to see how many followers they have on that.

Pls someone update them. It's making me itch.

One person doesn't make a game. I don't think people are worried about Igarashi's involvement - it's the relatively unproven talent of Inti Creates. Especially after the incredibly (if I'm being generous) lukewarm reception to MN9 thus far.

Lmao Inti Creates have proven themselves time and time again.

They were responsible for the whole Mega Man Zero series, Mega Man ZX, Mega Man 9 & 10 and other games. Just because people are reacting to the art direction of MN9 doesn't mean that Inti Creates is all of a sudden an 'unproven' dev.

It is the most recent thing on people's minds and the most relatable to this. I can't blame people for comparing the two.

$700000!!!

I am not really seeing the issue. Everyone who is backing this game is basically getting a copy of the game, plus other LE goodies. About 9300 people are backing it right now and the game has reached $700,000. Meaning, each person is paying about 75 dollars for a LE version of the game.

Nice.
Seems kinda weird though, wasn't the game supposed to be co-op anyway (which is awesome btw)? Why would there be only a second playable character now?

I'm in for the digital tier. Low risk, and I can't imagine it'll be terrible. Hell, if it's at least as good as the portable Castlevania games, or even somewhere between those and SOTN, it'll be totally worth it.

Just for your information: Inti Creates aren't the main developers behind Mighty No. 9 - Comcept (Inafune's studio) is. They are just the contract worker Comcept got for the game.

Inti Creates is a good company and has made a lot of great games. Blame Comcept's incompetence if you have to.
