OoE and PoR's soundtracks are better than SoTN. So is Curse of Darkness. But SoTN will always have Lost Painting which is CV Top 5 material.

Yeah... personally I don't think Castlevania should have "good" voice acting. There needs to be an element of gothic camp to it all.

If it becomes serious like some Underworld or True Blood vampire drama - I'm not interested.
It's telling that the best usage of both Robert Carlyle and Patrick Stewart in LoS was when they decided that hamming it up would be infinitely more fun than the serious side they started with.

A documentary on the production of SotN showed that all of SotN's voice acting was actually done by two people(a guy and a girl for Maria) speaking into a tin can. To the japanese game designers ears, who didn't speak a lick of English, this sounded totally cool and amazing, and was put into the game

Doesn't sound too far-fetched now I remember the totally true tales of Resident Evil's dodgy voice acting.

I have no idea why you would hate PoR's music. Yuzo Koshiro and Michiru Yamane worked on it.
It has some of the most amazing tracks like Invitation of a Crazed Moon which is easily one of the most memorable tracks in the series, it has Bloodlines remixes, it has a remix of a super old Konami game that Yamane composed as well, it has some boss themes that I can actually stand to listen to (I don't like most of the series' boss music), it's catchy and great.

What exactly do you hate about it?

Now that the game is funded, maybe we can have a stretch goal that gets Jake Kaufman (Virt, a Shovel Knight composer) to make an 8 bit soundtrack for the game. :p

So what? I like the Bram Stoker inspirations. These modern character and weapon designs are impractical and ugly as fuck.

I mean look at this unwieldy shit. It looks like a snow cone from the crossguard and apparently goes from round to edge. Or it's supposed to be a cross between a sword and a lance. Who the fuck knows?

Can't we have practical designs?

Even Order of Ecclesia is guilty of shitty weapon designs.

I can understand the desire for that realistic western artstyle... It was in Castlevania's DNA on the boxart in the 80s and early 90s.

But it hasn't been that for so very long. And because there's no accounting for taste..... I much prefer that hint of ethereal fantasy anime. Sorry. ;)

There's a slider ranging between "1980s Heavy Metal magazine cover (i.e. Conan or Boris Vallejo)" and "thick lined cartoony anime (i.e. Castlevania Judgement)" and I think it would be a tragedy if it were close to either extreme. This Bloodstained art looks exactly in the middle to me.... that's how I think it should be.

Yeah, people love to hate on PoR, but it had Yuzo motherfucking Koshiro on music duty, so I don't know what people are smoking.

I'm surprised, given how how profile this kickstarter is, that they're this slow on updating their stretch goals/this achievement system. I'm not sure I've seen another kickstarter try to do it, but if they're going to do it then they need someone watching the page and updating it. It's really odd that everything is still as it was when the kickstarter launched considering all of the current stretch goals have been met. Did they not expect this and have that stuff prepared?

Seems like a potential loss of momentum.

So its this getting physical only release during the kickstarter because damn! Im poor and I really want it :(

I imagine it's not impossible for a publisher to swoop in prior to its release to work out a deal for a general release, but it wouldn't be the same thing that they're doing for the backers with the special slipcover and the other goodies.

That's super subjective. Personally I find OoE's and PoR's soundtracks universally better than SotN's.

No doubt. I honestly don't remember OoE or PoR's soundtracks, despite 100%-ing both, and playing them more recently than Symphony. I'm not a huge fan of VG music, but SotN has one of my favorite soundtracks of all time.

Sounds cartoon-ish. I like my Castlevania gothic. Yamane lost her luster after CoD, with /some/ tracks of OOE being worthy.

Castlevania's music always has been about being catchy and "cartoonish" rather than being purely atmospheric. Even SotN's music is like that, although it is a blend of both. But if you want atmospheric orchestral stuff, go play Lords of Shadow.

I'm hoping that they decide the backer weapons are some of the best and like the 10 treasures that you collect as a goal in the game. That would be amazing.

C'mon, they wouldn't make them early weapons that become worthless after a few hours.

Right?

Note carefully the MASSIVE difference between Shovel Knight and Shadow Complex's learning curve and basic game design in how Iga has learned the basics of these two games.

This first Shovel Knight level is so expertly crafted for all levels of skill.

AMAZING work by the devs.

Practical designs are boring as fuck. I'd take Miriam's sword over generic barbarian's sword any day of the week.

What the hell? You dissing Conan's sword?!

Ahh hell naw.

We can like all the wacky impractical weapons we wish in a video, but don't down Conan's sword as a deflection. That thing is work of art, iconic, and great example of sword craftsmanship which was made by the late swordmaker Jody Samson. To simply call it generic is unjust to it's legacy.

Yeah, gonna echo finding practical designs boring. Being reminded of OoE couldn't be further from a negative for me.

Oh, no. I'm not saying that Conan's sword sucks. I'm saying I would take fancy-looking-and-impractical over it.

IGA is really set in his platforming ways.

One hopes he didn't forget about the more challenging platforming sections in Order of Ecclesia, since those were a very welcome change of pace and did a great job of using the cool moves that Shanoa gained outside of the normal Castlevania standards.

Yeah Neiteio (sp?) had a topic all about this. Great work by the devs. On par with the intro stage in MMX IMO.
