Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

lol

That cheat codes stretch goal is such a "What? They blew through all the other stretch goals in one day! Quick, we need more stretch goals!"

I'm always amazed by these people being surprised by the success of their Kickstarters. Playtonics admitted they had to scramble to quickly come up with stretch goal ideas. I mean you are announcing a spirtual successor to Banjo Kazooie and Castlevania, what'd you expect was gonna happen? People are gonna lose their shit hah.

Man, this stream sold me on Shovel Knight.

They're the coolest.

Ok, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but even if it doesn't cost them 400k for Local co-op, so what?

Aren't stretch goals just promises of stuff you'll add to the project if you get to X amount? It's not necessarily "I need this much to do this", right? They could have a stretch goal where they would dance and not even record it if the game reaches 1 million or something, couldn't they?

My point being: Cheat codes probably don't cost 150k, you're right. But no one ever said they did. This is not what a stretch goal is.

It's much better to have low expectations that are smashed then high ones that may not be met. :3

But how do we even do that? Are the social media goals even being updated?

No, but I think they will be by tonight.

Doing the livestream is probably hurting them cause they have to manage that while the KS is still pumping faster than they can update.

tbh, I think the system they have for 'achievements' is overly complicated.

The stretch goals have updated.

Where is that Wii U stretch goal?

In the dungeon.

All three major GBA games are on there, although COTM isn't an IGAvania, and Harmony of Dissonance is subpar, to be kind about it.

Yeah, I know. But since he just said "GBA vanias", I figured he didn't care. Plus, it's actually my favorite "Castletroid".

And I purposefully left off HoDis for a reason. :)

Iga and co just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Kickstarter culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like on Indiegogo where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw you're backers on Kickstarter, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the kickstarter public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to back Bloodstained for any system, nor will they purchase any of Iga's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Iga has alienated an entire market with this move.

Iga, publicly apologize and cancel cheat codes for kickstarter stretchgoal or you can kiss your kickstarter goodbye.

The right answer is both but if you can only choose one I say this Kojivania game since Yooka-Laylee already has enough funding and I have strong doubts they will hit that last (ambiguous) stretch goal anyways.

This is a more of a "Do I want access to the PlayBox stuff or do I want a physical Bloodstained copy"

We had to wait too long for this.

If for nothing else, playing HoD will really make you appreciate just how much IGA took its criticisms to heart when they did AoS, because it's night and day between those two.

This post gets funnier and funnier the more Japanese publishers reveal themselves to be completely shameless and petty.

I've always had a love-hate thing with IGA, but I've always suspected it was due to budget reasons. I hope what he gets from this Kickstarter and from his outside financiers works out to be more than he got for his DS games, and that we get something really cool.

I'm not in love with the concept art if I'm honest. I'm glad to see the game has already been funded though and I'll buy it day one if it turns out to be good.

I know they still have an entire month here, but revealing stretch goals for other platforms sooner than later sounds like a good idea to me. Plenty of Wii U/Vita fans who stepped away from the KS. Those fanbases are pretty passionate about funding projects on their machines.

I'm really not sure if this is a joke post playing off of some other bad post or not.

Not a joke post. I'm a little upset because Castlevania is one of my favorite series and I want this kickstarter to do well. In order to do that, the "carrots" need to be tantalizing and adding fucking cheat codes is meaningless. Any diehard Castlevania fan will tell you that one of the major issues with these games is that they are already too easy. At least if they explained a little better what "cheat codes" they will be adding, this might make more sense.

Uhhh, ok? I don't think anyone really is all that mad tbh. More content is more content.

Yes, like horse armor right? No, not all content is meaningful or "more content" as you say. Kickstarters should cater to their audience and aim to add meaningful content when people are blindly handing their money over.

People DO want local co-op, they could have just NOT had a 1 mill stretch goal and only done the 1.25 mill goal for local co-op and nobody would be upset

You may be right, but honestly, do you think IGA's legacy has anything to do with multiplayer? The core of the Metroidvania experience is about exploration, growing your character and the solo experience. Cheat codes and local coop are not the best stretch goals. Adding another location, additional characters, more gameplay mechanics, additional bosses, an arena, or newgame+ are all better stretch goals that I thought about in 10 seconds.

You do think they should publicly apologize and cancel that stretch goal though, right?

I know you're being sarcastic, but this is a BIG DEAL. Kickstarters are about what the fans want, especially these type of kickstarters about one creator's "legacy" etc... Adding "Cheat codes" as a stretch goal, even if it just a BS stretch goal to get to the local coop shows a degree of mismanagement which makes some people nervous about backing the project. This is not a good thing.

Sure backfired immediately, I think they only made 50k in the, what, 25 minutes since it was revealed?

Can you tell me how many potential backers they lost? I can tell you that I am still on the fence because of these stretch goals.

Cheat codes = alt OST and bad voice acting?!

Holy shit megaton in disguise!

From what they just said on the stream: Good. You are right, I would rather a more robust solo game then multiplayer. Thanks for getting that.

Cheat codes - even difficulty altering ones - are pretty fucking innocuous. It's not going to change your enjoyment of the game if they exist. Are you mad that -other- people might enjoy them? Frankly I'm of the opinion more games need cheat menus and other methods for tinkering around with the game; they're a lost pleasure. Don't act like you speak for all fans.

Oh man.

Dude, get a drink or something. Something simple as adding cheat codes on a stretch goal is as it is. I fail to see how they've mismanaged this Kickstarter by that.

This is so exciting.

Also, good call on bringing back one of Curse of Darkness's best features with the crafting. It might not have much staying power when all is said and done, but there's nothing like getting a brand new material and being able to craft four new items with it. Only, you don't know what those items are exactly, and you only have enough to craft one.

The grind is gonna eat me alive.
