There are two people who focus on RPGs and know what's up in big mainstream press:

Daniel Bloodworth
Kevin van Ord

One gave it 9.8
The other 10

It is pleasant that they confirmed what I suspected - CDP crafted the ultimate RPG, game that for the first time merges stunning open world with equally good writing and quest design.

Jeff is allowed to have his own opinion and if it doesn't match up with your opinion it's okay. Besides, he already played the game, and also he apparently won't review it (Alex/Vinny will).

I agree, fanboys jumping on his throat who haven't even played the game yet.....

it appears Jeff won't be the one reviewing it at all.

That was never in doubt. This is totally not his game and given his expressed interest (or lack thereof) in other games of the genre. As I said earlier, what surprised me was his expressed interest a few weeks ago.

Kevin VanOrd (Gamespot) recommends notching the difficulty up one notch as the game is easier than the Witcher 2 and you can over level too much by doing side quests.

Now I'm not sure if I should go normal or hard. I'm kinda reluctant to do that since harder difficulties can sometime make encounters become a slog. That's not a feeling I want when in these open world games you fight a lot of enemies over the course of 100 hrs.

So based on the IGN review this is a great open-world game if that's your thing, if you want to tight and focused RPG with a good main-quest line though it may not be all that great. Also several reviews have mentioned bugs. Starting to think I should wait a month for them to release another patch.

There are reviews that claim something completely opposite :D

Bethesda is laughing smugly.

Not sure Bethesda could afford to laugh at that point. Bethesda games are far cry from challenging experience thanks to level scaling content. At least TW3 doesn't scale monster and bandit levels to match yours :b

You guys are freaking out about Jeff too much. I loved RDR and he didn't. Different opinions are fun to listen to. Im curious to hear his thoughts on the Bombcast. The reviews are looking good though. I've thankfully avoided most coverage.

Jeff Grestmann hated Red Dead Redemption.... and that game has been in my top 5 games of all time since it released. His opinion doesnt really matters to me.

EDIT: Wrong image was linked.

Conflicting info everywhere. Daniel Bloodworth just confirmed to me on Twitter that his copy said it wasn't final. Jeff gerstmann says his copy explicitly said it had the day 1 patch. Who knows!

Maybe it was an updated build. Who knows. We'll find out next week.

The framerate can't be TOO much of a big deal if it's still getting good scores. Hopefully it's fixed though.

Jeff explained why he tweeted that with more tweets about him crashing twice within the first hour. He has a valid reason.

I am still crazy excited about the game and his opinion or experience won't change that.

i'm at work, but what is the consensus on the stutters present on all witcher 3 xbone footage? the reasoning behind it was that it wasn't the final build so i wasn't really concerned at all. what about now? they're not really dips they're more like stutters.

The fact that Jeff Gerstmann still pisses people off people in this community for being honest is hilarious and pitiful. Members decrying games journalism and crying about videogame media in general, someone is honest with themselves not liking the most hyped AAA product of the month, so that means he doesn't like videogames.

There will be people that don't like this game, crazy I know.

Here is a quote from the Kotaku review that really kinda sums up why I have always enjoyed the Witcher more than the other big fantasy stories.

Therefore the player’s choices are usually small-scale and personal, yet another way Wild Hunt differentiates itself from other similar RPGs like Dragon Age and Skyrim. This is not the story of the mighty army commander or the mystical chosen one; it’s the story of the guy who works for the army commander, the guy who knows the mystical chosen one.

I have always really like Geralts perspective and playing a well defined character makes the Witcher series more enjoyable than the bland create-a-hero RPG games to me.

I will also post this last quote, because it sounds CDPR have figured out a solution to one of my big problems with open world games, how to end it.

Eventually, all of your decisions do lead to one of a number of different endings. When the final foe is defeated, Wild Hunt thankfully doesn’t fall into the trap so many other open-ended RPGs do, ending on a vague non-resolution and dumping you back out in the world to mop up unfinished sidequests.

Bloodworth is probably my favorite reviewer. I find his opinions to be in line with mine most of the time.

I've played 6 of the top 10 PS4 Metacritic games : GTA V (PS3 then PS4), TLoU (PS3), Shovel Knight (Wii U / 3DS), Flower (PS3 then PS4), Rayman Legends (Wii U), Fez (PS4) and I don't know what to buy next... high scores everywhere for The Witcher but Bloodborne had great reviews and I don't like it.

Is there a demo scheduled any time soon?

The level scaling of Skyrim and Oblivion is why they would laugh. It's commonly agreed that Oblivion's level scaling was very harsh and Skyrim's was a bit schizophrenic. I was moreso making a joke and highlighting a perceived flaw of non-scaling gameplay than saying Beth handles anything better.

Also, I don't really see anyone getting angry at Jeff Gerstmann or hating on him so much as making fun. I thought everyone loved him.
