Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

Would be sort of hilarious if unannounced goals have allready been reached:)

It'll be 1.5 by the time the fangamer guys wake up and update the KS page

(i'm sure they have many, many more stretch goals planned out but yeah, it's definitely going faster than they've expected)

My preferred scenario is that they go easy on the stretch goals and instead use the excess budget to hire more staff. Better product and earlier release are way better than some extra modes or trinkets.

This is how I feel about basically every Kickstarter. Stretch goals always feel more likely to screw up the design than help it, and then you have the delay they invariably cause.

I'd rather have well planned stretch goals than hastily made up that end up failing. I guess they didn't expect Kickstarter to do THIS well.
For sure. I want them to make the game they want to make, and not simply throw up stretch goals in order to keep the fundraising train going.

I hope I'm wrong and this game ends up being just as mindblowing as sotn was back in the late 90s, but based on everything I've seen and heard I don't think its worth backing prerelease.
That game came to us 7 years ago and it was called Castlevania Order of Ecclesia. Too bad so many people were fatigued with the franchise by DoS or PoR and never got to experience one of the best Castlevania's. As good as Rondo or Aria.

So the guys hired to manage the campaign, are they usually this slow and bad at it? I checked their twitter account and they haven't updated that either the last 14 hours.

Doesn't the community achievement shit already counter the idea that they would just make up new goals with no planning? I mean the diamond lens\basement key sounds like they show everything that is planned for stretchgoals yeh?

They might just stretch the goals out.
Best solution really but 1,5 will be a goal at the least. Otherwise it's too obvious they rearranged goals. The gap between goals will be at most 250.000 while under 2 mil i think. The boat needs to keep on rocking:p Orchestrated ost and inverted castle seem good stretch goals. Put nintendo systems around 2,5 mil and extra personell should definetely be part of goals as well. Fuck, bring in Arc Sys to do ingame art for a 3 mil goal:) Keep this train going!

Say what? Symphony of the Night is what people are talking about. He was designer, programmer, and assistant director on that game. And one of the composers did music for the game. After that Igarashi was producer for a number of Castlevania games, and that composer did the music for most of them.

The post to which I responded made mention of "real" Castlevania games.

Igarashi wasn't the designer of SotN. He had worked on the terrible English script and filled in on some minor programming duties as an assistant. Harmony of Dissonance was the first "Castlevania" game that Iga had creative control of and it was a disaster. Besides, SotN was barely "real" Castlevania, and the Igavanias were Castlevania in name only.

Igarashi was in the credits as "Special Thanks" for Rondo of Blood because he visited the RoB team while working on Tokimeki Memorial. Afterwards he requested to work on Castlevania.

Koji Igarashi was director for the latter half of Symphony of the Night, as well as scenario writer and programmer. Toru Hagihara, director of Rondo of Blood, was producer for SoTN for the first half, and producer and programmer for the latter half.

—To begin, please tell us what role you played in the Castlevania: Symphony of the Night development.

Hagihara: I was producer for the first half of the game, and for the latter half I was both producer and programmer.

Igarashi: I acted as director (for the latter half), scenario writer, and programmer. “There is a glimmer of something suspicious about him.”

Igarashi was also responsible for the X68000 Castlevania getting rereleased on PSOne, The Dracula X Chronicles on PSP, and was producer on Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth by M2 (Wii Ware), but Symphony of the Night "IGAvania" is his type of game.

I'd be really curious to see what they would do if they were to get 5mil funding, meaning they would have enough that they wouldn't need outside funding at all. I wonder if they'd still take the publisher deal.

More Staff != game out quicker.

There's usually a certain point where hiring more people doesn't actually benefit a project, there's not really a 1:1 relation between manpower and quality. Some stuff benefits from smaller team sizes. Remember that SotN for a large portion was 5 people, and the highest it got was about 10 people (excluding the VERY end where they threw a bunch in just to wrap up bugs and stuff).

Apparently everyone involved has been having some VERY long nights for a while leading up to this kickstarter. In the 8 hour stream apparently Koji and Ben were running on 2 hours sleep from the previous night.

They've all earned some serious rest now that theres a successful launch behind them. They'll update it when they're up, and its not really a detriment to players. Theres still 30 days left to this KS.

There must be some form of contract already in play I imagine. It would probably be impossible to release physical editions without one, yeh?

I've done it for IGA and Yamane.

For real though, everyone needs to give it a rest about updating stretch goals. They have a long time to go, and they aren't even required to do that. Let them get some rest.

According to the stream they have been working 30 hours straight with no sleep

Oh! Well at least they'll be very happy when they wake up :)

I'm sure we'll see a thank-you video from Iga too at some point after the kickstarter has ended. I think he left more or less immedeately back to Japan when he was done with the stream (?)

It's pretty crazy that the average pledge amount for the kickstarter is over $70. People really, really want this game. I imagine the final game is going to be $30, seeing as the digital edition is $28.

Honestly, this is the first KS I've ever seen that hasn't had ANY updates at all in terms of news once it gets backed, let alone this much past it's goal. Normally once it gets backed officially(goal is reached), at the very least you get a news blurb thanking the fans etc. Radio silence is exceptionally odd, let's not act like it's not. :p

Well that retail release is tempting as fuck, I gotta admit

Only reason I haven't jumped in on that is that I don't wanna deal with all the importing woes

They updated it with the "we did it" image. Iga and Judd were on stream all day yesterday, give them some time.

Where do you live that it would be a problem?
Brazil. Weak BRL plus our shitty import policies makes importing a massive pain in the ass, specially when the game is so far away and things can get worse

I'd rather just have a download voucher on my inbox than going through all the trouble

Almost 1.5m... Maan, I wonder how Iga is feeling with all this =P

Anyway, hopefully they show the new stretch goals soon. Not putting more stuff up is a good way to stop the majority of donations for a long time.

IGA is collecting a grand total of $2M by the end of today. Calling it from now.

It would be strange if that happened without them updating it, but it will happen eventually. In that case they should retroactively announce some other goal that has already been reached and other things to aim for unless it's used for polishing the final product. I can't wait for this game and I want Iga to do well.

Dude, they repeatedly thanked the fans yesterday in the stream. As a bonus, Iga even joined some fellas in speed running SotN shortly after everything was wrapped up. Just give them a day.

Iga let the publishers get into his head.

He figured there was a market for his genre, he just didn't factor in how much we wanted him back!

They're probably resting. They had a busy few days with little to no sleep leading to the Kickstarter. Give them a break.

Maybe not albus mode. (That was the most broken, actually uninteresting alternate character. Shoulda just made it be the 8bit simon belmont sprite)
Broken? Sure. Uninteresting? Nope. The final battle with Dracula with tough af. I really enjoyed playing as Albus. Ascerbatus all day every day.
