The Witcher 3 | Review Thread

The complaints about the story in the IGN review feel weird to me. It almost feels as if he's complaining that this isn't some "Save the world, you're the chosen one" story that has become so homogenous in games.

The idea of a much more personal tale is really great to me. In the video review he says: "Although the plot might not necessarily be that interesting, the characters are great." Which is a weird criticism... Aren't characters what a story is all about? Plot is just a device to give the characters something to do... Many of the greatest stories ever have simple or no plot.

DA:I is an example of a game that has some great characters, but the plot is uninteresting. I think the same guy reviewed DA:I for IGN also and he had the same complaint with that too concerning the plot. So I'm definitely worried about the story. The biggest thing that ha quelled some of my fears is hearing Kevin Van Ord talking about how he didn't love the Withcer 2's story but he thought the Witcher 3 was a huge improvement storywise.

That's a plus to me. Saving the entire world is a ridiculous concept.

I agree this is the only review that matters. Incredible emotion. "Wickedness of the bare human body."

Regarding that IGN Live PC stream: they had it at "Ultra" but not everything was enabled or to the "max".

Light shafts were disabled, AO was set to SSAO and not HBAO, anti-aliasing was turned off, sharpening was turned off (which is preferable for me, but some here obviously really liked that look), and hairworks was off (although they turned it on at some point, I think).

Those settings won't negate the downgrade, but they should at least be considered in comparisons. Without knowing which options are disabled, any "Ultra" comparisons should be taken with a grain of salt, since it doesn't necessarily enable every single feature available.

Quick question and forgive me for asking.

I thought this game comes out next week. It's coming out this week? I have it pre ordered on PC.

Wait, what? Is this our first worldwide unlock on PS4?

I usually buy from the US store despite living in Europe so this is amazing news!

Is this for consoles, or something?

Steam says it unlocks in 5 days 18 hours, which, for me, would be Tuesday at noon. (US - central timezone)
