Sony: "No concerns" about any lack of PS4 software this Holiday

Sony Computer Entertainment UK has no concerns about the PS4's Christmas games line-up, despite going up against the likes of Halo 5, Forza Motorsport 6 and Rise of the Tomb Raider on Xbox One, UK MD Fergal Gara has told MCV.

"I won't go into any detail now," said Gara. "There is plenty for gamers to get excited about already, such as Tearaway for PS4 and No Man's Sky. That's just the start of what is on the table right now. So I don't have any concerns that we will have a lack of strong software for PS4 this peak."
As for why there has been a lull in new PS4 game releases, Gara says it's about studios getting to grips with the hardware.

"My sense is that the new platforms have opened up the ambitions of developers and the capabilities of what they can achieve,
" he explained. "What has then happened since has been a bit of rushing to market and a couple of not perfect launches. That’s perhaps driven some conservatism to not overly force this and make sure we get it right - there's been an adjustment of pace.

"The good news is that the ability to stick to time lines will improve as people get experience of the hardware under their belts. I have been hearing stories from around the industry that give me assurance that developers have got a better grasp on things, so we will be in increasingly good shape."

Why would they be concerned?
I mean, look at the sales charts. They can stop releasing exclusives on the system and it will still end up the best selling console of the gen by a large margin.

Honestly, name dropping Tearaway and No Man's Sky as the "start of what is on the table right now" doesn't make the statement sound too convincing to me. Mostly because of the former, I guess. At least it sounds like reassurement that NMS won't get delayed, though I'm doubtful about that.

with so many units in households and a ton of 3rd party games coming out-who cares anyways?

edit:just saying there are more things to get excited about than just first party games now

They've gone all this time without any real hard hitting exclusives (excluding Bloodborne). I I think they will be fine. My entire future PS4 lineup is multi plat from now.

What else should he say ?
There is nothing else announced, so he can't just tell everyone what else is gonna be there...

Besides Tearaway is a great game.

I took that as being the only 1st party titles that have been announced so far. Everything else might be as yet unannounced.

People are worried about no exclusives, yet, FIFA/COD/AC/MADDEN are bestsellers each year holiday season.

Sure, everyone would like to have some exclusives, but I much rather have them spread out releases and not only focusing on Fall.

Yeah, we really won't know where these recent delays are on a scale of "it's not ready" to "we already have so much stuff releasing in this quarter, push something to the next quarter" until they finally show their hand at E3, I think. I mean, realistically, if they weren't confident in what else they already had in that quarter they'd probably have told ND and/or the R&C remake team to get fucked and do what it took to make Q4 when asked for more time.

Do people think this means they have a secret exclusive in store to release in 6 months? They have the third parties, they consider that a good lineup.

That's what I thought. I'm gonna need something ten times more interesting than either to get excited about Sony exclusives this year.

It could mean anything between they have jack squat in store for the holidays and tossed NMS and Tearaway out there in desperation, to they have multiple blockbusters ready to go and are going to blow our collective minds at E3 and everyone who buys a PS4 this year gets a free puppy.

So yeah, PR.

Sony Id imagine.

They're not really in a position financially to have all those studios taking forever to get their games out our producing critical and commercial flops.

The excuse about new hardware is bullshit coming from the platform holder who rolled out Cerny to talk about how easy it is to develop for.

You dun fucked up when Teraway is the game you mention as your big holiday title.

(Edit: I actually like Teraway a lot. But it's not that huge holiday title that most people get excited for)

Oh well, I like my PS4 a lot but Sonys first party output is awful. Luckily Black Ops 3 and Battlefront will save me this fall

They better have some surprises, because saying that Tearaway is going to compete with Tomb Raider, Halo or Forza is some Reggie Fils-Aime level delusion.

Do not understand me wrong, I like Sony. But I think this might be just a bland and empty PR statement.

I seriously doubt they have anything besides some Indiegames (wich is totaly fine with me!) and some deals with a couple of third party publishers (SW:Battlefront, Destiny(?) ...), maybe the Day of the Tentacle Remake (wich I'm very happy about) and probably some Bloodborne DLC.

In total nothing that will make me more or less excited.

Sony and Nintendo have a lot to prove if they want to go against Microsoft's decent holiday line-up.
I am looking forward to it.

Also people missed them saying that Tearaway and No Man's Sky was "the start" of the holiday line-up meaning there will be E3 games.
