I think you are redownloading installer files? Just checked GOG.com and Galaxy, still only that ~22GB installer available that turns into ~25GB install.

Look, I'm not interested in an argument. My point is, if you launch a product in a beta stage, it should at least do the job it was primarily designed to do for everyone - not just some people.

I really can't believe how you can argue this. It's an incredibly stupid argument. Do you know what testing is? The entire point is so that when they launch it, they don't have these issues.

Testing large code bases is difficult and is made quicker by allowing people in the public to help test with you in order to quickly find issues such as this. Are you really seriously arguing that software companies shouldn't do public beta tests because some people such as yourself can't seem to understand that if you decide to participate in them, you may run into issues?

You can't as easily as you suggest guarantee 100% bug free code especially when you get to code bases likely as large as GOG Galaxy. This is why we have testing stages in order to find these issues. I don't think you quite understand the processes behind software development. What you have done is essentially said "Oh, I see that this company is allowing us to participate in the testing phase where we will potentially find issues with the software" - "Wait, THERE ARE ISSUES WITH THIS SOFTWARE? WHY DID THEY RELEASE IT LIKE THIS?!"

It's unfathomably stupid. It has nothing to do with not criticising GOG and everything to do with your perception of software development and purpose of software testing.

Trying to contact CD Projekt RED. Need to tell them to hold up on wither 3 till im done with skyrim

Hmm, I wanted to move my installation folder and I unistalled the game and it ended up deleting all the files and downloading everything again :(. Will use the normal GOG links for now...

Run into issues? It is a game downloader that doesn't download games. That's a pretty big flaw out of the gate, and shouldn't need the public's help in solving. I can understand crashes, I can understand features not being present, but I would expect basic functionality, otherwise don't waste my time.

has anyone been able to uncompress the FLAC files since they uploaded the whole album? I see other people here are having the same issue I am.
Personally, I had no issue with the FLAC archive. Used WinRAR to uncompress. No errors or anything, everything seems to be in order. Tried it again just to be sure.

I'd try redownloading it one more time.

Maybe make sure your harddrive has enough storage space.

Here are the hashes in case you wanna check if the file is complete:

The feature not being present for you and a tiny handful of other people right now is that you do not get to max out your pipe while downloading.

Also, nobody is wasting your time but yourself. You are willingly participating in a beta test.

Sorry, the only person wasting people's time here is you. You're the one that decided to go into testing phase of a software product without being willing to accept the idea of testing software. You expecting 100% bug free code, regardless of what component that code belongs to is completely and entirely unreasonable, even in a "full release" it'd be unreasonable, in a testing stage of a piece of software? That's all kinds of ridiculous.

If you're not happy with testing software, don't "waste your time" by choosing to test software.

Also, it's a game downloader (in the testing phase) that doesn't download games for some people in some circumstances. It's a bug that was surfaced during the testing period of the software, that's the entire point, to find issues like this. Why is this so hard to understand? Even if it for 99% of people it didn't work properly, in a testing phase, absolutely no one who volunteers to help test the software has any right to then complain about the issues they find as that is the entire point.

It's weird that this even needs explaining to someone.

I've redownloaded the file and ran md5sum over it, and it's not matching your hashes. I'm still getting the same corrupt archive. Downloading from EU btw, maybe they upload it separately to the different regions, and one got corrupt?

I'm in Germany myself, so that shouldn't be it.

Maybe try switching around the temp folder galaxy is downloading to? Or at least cleaning up in there so that there's no file with the same name (which is something I'd suspect to be the reason - an initial aborted download that somehow got stuck there).

It's downloading...

At 0.1 MB/s

Hah! Before I had been downloading it directly from the website. After downloading it once more through GOG Galaxy, I finally got a working archive!

I guess that settles it. Don't download the FLAC soundtrack from gog.com, but do it through the Galaxy client. GOG pls fix

Preload complete.

Not long now icon, you won't taunt me for much longer!

edit: I preloaded through Galaxy and it downloaded at full speed, took less than an hour. Strange that some people are having trouble with it.

Are the preload files hidden when preloading from Steam? I definitely downloaded to my usual location on my drive by I don't see a folder or anything. I've never preloaded on Steam before so maybe that's normal.

The store page also says preorders get some bonus stuff. Is that not available for Steam users until release?

It's in the depotcache folder

Is there any way to set a specific install location for the Witcher 3 using GOG Galaxy?

I want to install this game on my SSD

Man, I can't install GOG Galaxy to start my preload. Get a "mfc110.dll not found" error. Is GOG Galaxy good? enough for me to go to the effort to troubleshoot this problem?

If you are fine with missing out on achievements I would do preload with GOG's old downloader and return to troubleshoot Galaxy later.

Fuck it. All in.

I have one week before the Internship starts. Which gives me time to learn HTML Coding and play Witcher 3.

I don't really like it, but I guess I'll keep it on because why not? eh... I was getting terrible download speeds with it (0.1-0.3mB for the Witcher 3 preload) but for the extras like the sound track i was getting around10 mB, which is normal.

I imagine in the future there will be a way to "add" the games you downloaded from the website to the client, but when I just tried installing Planescape Torment from the installer I got from the website, Galaxy seemed to redownload and reinstall the game.
Edit:I just tried it with Phantasmagoria, installing it into the same download folder for Galaxy. It didn't redownload, the installation bar just pretty much filled up immediately, after it, I assume, checked the files.

That's fantastic! Means I get to play at 6PM on Monday :).

I must figure out how to push the United States even further to the west so we can play it even sooner...

"Time doesn't work that was, sir"

Same. I downloaded the first night it opened and it completed in less than an hour.

Preload finished with the Downloader. I've got a notification for 1 game update at the top of the downloader but when I click it it goes to a 404 page. I've got to say my first impression of GOG hasn't been great so far but I'm hoping that will improve soon.

Yeah, I'd like to be able to sort your games like you could with GoG before (I was pissed when I saw that my order was changed on the GoG website), or at least categorize my library like with steam. Other than that, I guess I'm okay with it. I'm guessing my slow as balls download speed with The Witcher 3 was maybe I tried getting it at a bad time? Every other game I download with Galaxy I tried has been giving me similar speeds to Steam downloads.
I'm willing to wait and give it a chance, seeing it's a beta and all.

Mine is pre-loading now as well, but I notice the download speed is rather... slow. Normally I get 1.7MB/s (which still isn't fantastic) on Steam and Origin, but on GOG Galaxy it pretty much caps at 0.7MB/s.

No biggie though, I mean it's still four days before I can play it so I can wait, but I was just wondering.

Also, is there any option to pause the download without completely aborting it? I'll continue the download at night, I'd like to play some Battlefield or Team Fortress now but I'm probably going to get kicked due to high ping.

Just quit it from the taskbar. It resumed fine for me.

That did the trick, thanks!

Which brings me to my next question, I see it "only" installed 24.5 GB, which seems very small for such a big game The Witcher 3 is expected to be. Does this mean the Day 1 patch will be 20+ GB?

in Gog galaxy, what's the difference between installing the game or downloading the game installer in extras menu ?
It's just the same thing ?

No difference, just a smaller download size. If you download via GOG Downloader (i.e game installer etc) then it's slightly smaller because it's compressed, then you run the setup file to install/unpack.

The Galaxy one downloads the game as if it's "installed", like Steam. It doesn't seem to be compressed at all.

If you download via GOG Downloader then you can point your Galaxy client to the game and that'll work then through Galaxy if you want to use it, for me it automatically detected it when I ran the installed and launcher Galaxy afterwards (probably due to registry). Otherwise there is an "Import Folder" on the game's page on Galaxy client.

A lot of games are unnecessarily large, some games include voice acting for example for all languages, music/audio is uncompressed where they should be compressed, etc.

The Witcher 3 when you download it you only download for English at the moment, if you want German for example to can download a separate patch on day of release for German audio and so on.

I don't think the day 1 patch will be big, I just think CDPR made a conscious effort to not make the game unnecessarily large.

24.5GB sounds about right. The unpacked install size of the Steam version is approximately 24.8GB.

Do we know if the game will have a midnight release on Steam? And is it gonna be staggered by region so we could play early by using a Korean VPN?

It's global. 4 PM pacific on the 18th, you can see the time on the store page. 34 and a half hours currently.

If only. Squeenix is about the only publisher that regularly releases its upcoming games at midnight, but, to be fair to indies and smaller publishers such as Paradox, I believe region-specific unlock times are something Valve reserves for "bigger" releases since it still has to change/update app release states itself.
