The Giant Beastcast - Episode 0 (2015/05/22)

Yes! Will start by listening to the free feed to see how they handle ads. Knowing Vinny I'll probably not go to the premium feed.

I barely have enough time in a week to listen to Bombcast, Biggest Problem in the Universe, This American Life, The Best Show, Idle Thumbs, Radiolab, Guardian Radio, etc, etc. I often wish I had the time to subscribe to Premium Giant Bomb, but I'd just be paying for content I don't ever get to hear. Or I'd end up feeling obligated to listen to it and it'd become a chore.

Beastcast is gonna have to be good enough to make me stop listening to one of the shows in my regular rotation. I honestly hope that it is, though.

Shorter than the Bombcast
by a hair
but it's nice to hear Vinny and Alex. Also, Fury Road talk? Awwww yeah! *horn sound*

who are these guys? are they new to gaming podcasts or something and trying to sound like they're associated with giant bomb to gain more traction? kinda slimey and gross tbh

This isn't funny. Those poor independent podcasters depend on podcast impressions for their livelihood. You are literally killing Vinny. I thought NeoGAF threads had integrity, but apparently I was wrong.

Oh man, I was so bummed after we got Vinny on one cast during the Big Live Live Show Live, only to go back to the regular crew- can't wait for a weekly cast starring Vinny and The Wolf.

So torn, Vinny is the best person ever but I really don't like listening to Alex (nothing personal, I don't even know why this is).

feckin finally

I've been seeing this gif for ages, and I have to know...what's it from?

Just listened to the entire thing, I thought it was pretty damn good and Jeff B was a great guest/cohost. A lot less dead air compared to recent bombcasts and everyone had something to say. Keep it up!
Yeah, listening now and he's pretty good.

In fact, this show is freaking great so far

Hoping it doesn't devolve into the weekly early access watchamucallit wrap up, otherwise I'm slotting it into my weekly podcast routine.

I got so tired of Vinny on the Bombcast but when he left it became so damn apparent he added so much. I so missed his take on trivial shit. Cant wait to listen to this.

It might be because, when you watch a given GBeast QL, you may be thinking stuff like, "Yeah, Vinny's great, but it'd be SO COOL if Jeff and the other GBWest duders were here!" Vinny and Alex are a great duo, but I find myself wanting other combinations, like Vinny/Drew (which we DID get recently in a Vinny/Drew/Alex QL) and Alex/Jeff. Whenever the new hire is announced, I can't wait to see things mixed up a bit.

i just want a vinny/dan quick look someday is that too much to ask for (although the danswers episode with both of them was nice)

I thought Alex and Patrick were a decent combination; complemented each other well. I'd say, Vinny, Brad and Jeff are a great trio.

Nevertheless, this podcast so far is great and I hope it continues growing once they have a set system in place.

Not a great first episode. Dragged on even more than a regular episode of the Bombcast with even less structure. But whatever, its a first episode.

Vinny and Alex, both are great podcast personalities in their own right and they go great together. Alex usually knows his stuff, can't wait for more weekly podcasts with these two.

I'm still in the middle of the episode, but it's kind of all over the place. I mean, it is an Episode 0, so I understand that they're still finding their groove. It's pretty fun, though. I'll definitely continue to tune in.

But still, West Coast is the best coast.

I opened up doggcatcher and was like "let's subscribe I wonder if beastcast is actually the name I bet it's gonna be a pain to find"

It's the TOP podcast in the subscribe list

Not a bad debut at all. Some cool insight and stories and opinion.

Glad Alex is holding up Splatoon and general Nintendo shit in conjunction with Dan. That said.... despite the fact that Alex and Dan both clearly acknowledge the high quality and fun factor of various polished Nintendo first party titles (Smash, Mario Kart, Splatton, etc) I've been sensing a pervasive opinion across Giantbomb properties and games media in general lately: people are unwilling to acknowledge that Nintendo's games might contain any levels of depth, nuance, or high level skill potential. Like Alex's overall thoughts on Splatoon are equivalent to '*shrug* it's fun'. It's as though the aesthetics and feel of these games combined with Nintendo's image as catering to younger gamers means that these games are only meant to be chaotic party games. They can't be both beginner friendly and able to cater to skilled depth? Is this impossible? Many seem to think so are will simply never approach the games with a serious competitive mindset.

*grumble grumble*

I got pretty irritated by the guest's incredulous sneering, first at Alex seeing Inception twice then at Vinny reading the Witcher books. I hope he doesn't normally have such a haughty attitude if he will be making regular appearances on the show.

But yay Vinny podcast!

OK giantbombcast is top of my weekly list (though theres been very little news about the lucasarts shit bandit recently), therefore beastcast gets a shot at my weekly rotation since ign beyond is, sadly, just not what it was.
