did DA only drop TNA because of ratings or costs?

The truth is it's the cost when paired with sponsors not wanting to touch professional wrestling, on a channel that gets along fine with "Mountain Monsters" and "Hillbilly Blood."

Even WWE wasn't able to get the mega television renewal they were looking for recently, in a television landscape that's paying huge money for live sports content, based heavily on the fact that sponsors don't want to touch this lowbrow entertainment.

So I guess this means ROH's deal with Sinclair is over? I don't get DA so I won't be able to watch ROH anymore. Bummer.

Aiii

So not worth it

Networks want wrestling viewers but ad buys don't want to advertise on wrestling because of its Vince Russo type reputation right?

Wow, that's pretty cool news. A little strange, given that RoH is owned by Sinclair, but great nonetheless.

Hopefully they can pick through the scraps of TNA and get talented guys like Roode back on TV. I'd mentioned Aries too but I'm not sure if that bridge is still burnt.

Is wrestling really that much more lowbrow than the deluge of crap reality TV that is featured on cable networks? Aren't the financials of the typical demographic the bigger issue?

The only ROH content I have ever watched is at live shows. Really entertaining and I hope this works out for them. I also hope DA invests some money into their production.

Lowbrow entertainment, lowbrow demographic. There's a reason they're drawing some of the biggest numbers on cable, yet their featured advertiser is FRAM oil filters.

Yep, USA pays for Raw just so they can say they are the number 1 cable network, as Raw does big numbers for cable. That's why they don't put the full version on Hulu, or allow you to watch it online even if you sign in with cable credentials.

...I can't believe some of the bullshit reasons people make up for Destination America wanting to get rid of TNA.

The ratings are fine. Wrestling is advertising repellant. Nobody wants to advertise on a wrestling promotion, especially one like TNA. DA likely thought they'd get a better ROI than they did, and when they didn't they said "fuck this". They knew TNA was getting decent ratings so they looked to another wrestling promotion that would be more friendly to advertisers and a lower cost for them, and there you go.

You can't watch it online after the fact but you can stream RAW live via xfinity live or on USANEtworks site if you have comcast. Don't know if other cable providers work.

WWE advertises the hell out of Mtn Dew Kickstart and Pizza Rolls you trying to imply that these aren't well established class act advertisements that any other grade A program wouldn't air?

Some of the reasons are far from made up, though

Two cannibals are eating a clown. One turns to the other and says "does something taste funny to you?"

Reality shows with random nobodies don't cost that much to film though.

I only feel bad for the female talent. Because ROH doesn't have a women's division, they're going to be stuck in the indies until god knows when.

Other than that, get rekt TNA.

2002-2007 was epic for RoH. Then, Sapolsky left, and everything fucked off with him. Some of the BEST rivalries I have EVER seen in wrestling were in those 5 years.

Who can forget CZW vs ROH, culminating in that crazy Cage of Death match, Joe vs Punk series, Joe vs Kobashi, Danielson vs KENTA/Nigel, Raven vs Punk and so much more. Loved RoH through and through back then. They haven't interested me in years and aren't booked right too nowadays.

Happy about the deal though.

ROH these days is genuinely really, really good. Trust me, I felt the same about original ROH, although I thought Gabe's later booking was pretty bad. Cornette and Pearce were dreadful but Delirious on his own knows what he's doing. There's some interesting storylines and a lot of great wrestling all over the card which wasn't the case when Cornette was trying to make it into OVW.

So happy that ROH has got this, mostly because it sounds like it's VERY advantageous for them. They keep the Sinclair show (since they're owned by them, obvs) and the DA show is probably gonna just be that, although an upcoming show will have stuff from the New Japan event a few weeks ago. So they get a TV show without really having to do much work and if it does well, who knows.

Also lol at ROH booking AJ Styles and Samoa Joe vs. Frankie Kazarian and Chris Daniels. Those guys and Chris Sabin should all just do Bo Dallas-esque victory laps.

Niiiiiice!
Total upgrade

I am fairly safe saying that ROH has more and better followers than TNA and it has more potential.

Well they sure don't have Dixie or TNA's record of stupid crap so that's a huge plus.

Never really watched ROH so I'd be on board with this.

Some info from Wrestling Observer's radio show:

*Deal was in the works for months
*ROH TV (the usual Sinclair version) will air every Wednesday
*DA are syndicating the show
*DA's issue with TNA was advertising, they're paying money, and it's not financially viable
*ROH makes a bit of money off the deal, DA gets a wrestling show for significantly less than Impact
*The ROH show will be the lead-in for Impact for the next four months
*ROH signed up for 26 weeks of TV (likely the end of the year)
*If things go well with ROH and DA, ROH may get to do special live events on DA
*This allows ROH to air their show to markets who don't have Sinclair stations (NYC, Chicago etc)
*No relationship between ROH and TNA
*No-one in TNA knew about the DA/ROH deal until today
*MAYBE three people in ROH knew
*ROH planned for the news to break on May 27th for a long time
*Samoa Joe can work anywhere, including promotions with TV, as long as they don't have national TV, so this may preclude him appearing
*Dixie Carter is having a conference call with the TNA wrestlers
