If someone has recorded a ringtone from Archer and made it free to download, that's not necessarily legal.

If Archer used a free ring tone in an episode and you download it somewhere for free, thats legal.

If Archer used a free ringtone but you are recording the ringtone off the TV show, rather than downloading it free somewhere, that's probably technically illegal as your ringtone will be broadcasting to public something which is copyright (the episode).

At the end of the day, using a sound clip from a TV show is unlikely to get you in any trouble, unless you try and make money out of it or have the ringtone go off during a recording of a video that is then commercialised.

Archers "Mulatto Butts" Ringtone is an original creation of the show, so you should ask their permission if you wanna use it as a ringtone. But they seem like pretty chill production crew, they would probably let you or even give you a download or put it on the site or something.
 
Trying to connect my Xbox One Controller to my PC but when I start downloading the drivers, I get this message, "microsoft xbox one controller for windows setup wizard ended prematurely because of an error. Your system has not been modified". Anyone know the issue might be?
 
I just installed uBlock. How do I whitelist ads on GAF? I added "neogaf" on the whitelist tab but I still don't see any ads so I turned uBlock off in the meantime. What hostnames should I whitelist?
 
I'm watching The Simpsons and Homer just looked in the fridge for beer (there was a bear outside). No beer but 3 boxes of baking soda.
I keep baking soda in the cupboard, not the fridge. Have I been doing it wrong? Are the Simpsons smarter than me?

If you're talking about it for Chrome, just click the bigass Power button icon to turn it off for the site.

Think there are two different things going on:

- Sticking an opened container of baking soda in the fridge to absorb odors is/was a thing. Not interacting with it all that often or ever, you could just get used to it being there. Putting a new one in without removing the old is an exhibition of awesome human laziness.

- Don't know what you actually use baking soda for, but if you were going to actually use it, better to store it in something like a cupboard.

Awesome, thanks. No odors in the fridge so just the stuff I have is cool in the cupboard for use.

Memory: G.Skill SDRAM DDR3-1866 8GB 240-Pin Dual Channel F3-14900CL9D-8GBXL [RipjawsX]. 8 GB is plenty.
Secoondary hard drive: WD 3TB Caviar Green Internal Hard Drive WD30EZRX. This is good if you have a large media library. If you stream media then the 256 GB SSD will be enough.
Disc drive: Pioneer BDC-207DBK Internal Blu-Ray Combo. A Blu-ray drive is only important if you plan to use the PC for playing movies.

I was looking for info about a (kinda obscure) game. One of the links on Google said about ROM download in the description, but the address and the title said it's a... bodybuilding website. It's probably not even actual ROM download (I'm not even looking for one), but how does it happen? Is it a compromised website? Some kind of trick to boost its position in search engines? And how does it even work?

Can someone explain this to me? This must be an American thing, because I've never once seen it in my life. I mean, I've seen photos on reddit and stuff all the time of receipts with this "Tip" line, but never personally. Canadian here, when paying with a card, our terminals say "Tip?" on the screen and then give you an option to pay it as a percentage of the total, dollar amount, or not at all. Then it just gets tacked on to the amount that you pay with the card.

Where is this tip line coming from?

There was a crazy increase of ufo sightings after ww2 and all the atomic bomb testings worldwide. The destructive power seemed to draw some kind of attention at least. From aliens or nuts :)

Some places in the U.S. does the percentage through a computer, I've only seen it at places that use iPads as cash registers/terminals and allows the customer to interact with it. But most places, we give the waiter or employee our card they swipe it and bring back a receipt. The receipt has two lines at the bottom, the top line is where you put the amount of tip you want to give(if you don't want to tip you put a 0 and put a diagonal line through the 0). The bottom line is the total where you combine the tip and the toal of your urchase together.

Funny thing is I was was weirded out by this as well when I first saw it 3 years ago and I've lived here my whole life.

So you just have to trust that the employee will enter the correct amount in afterwards? I've never heard of handing your card to someone you don't know in order for them to purchase something, jesus that's weird.

Anyway, I've got my own stupid question now. I posted this in the AirBnB thread from a few days ago but it's not very active, and might fit better in here. Someone stop me if cross-posting is a frowned upon thing.

I've used AirBnB in the past, but only as a guest of the person who booked it. Me and some friends are looking to go to Montreal in July and are looking for a place. We want a place where the owner won't be staying there at the time though &#8212; I imagine we would be out late, and probably want to drink at the place a little, but don't want to disturb the owner. Does that mean I need to limit the listings to "Whole House / Apt"?

One of the cheaper places we found claimed to accommodate 4, but there is only one bed, and it's a queen sized. How does that work?

I'm going to contact the host, but his bio and the listing are in French, which none of us speak. I've also heard that the French-speaking Quebecers aren't usually too fond of English speaking people. Is it condescending to Google Translate the message to him? Should we just avoid the place altogether and look for a place that's written up in English?
 
question for X-Men fans:

how do Sebastian Shaw's powers work exactly? I know he can absorb and redirect kinetic energy, i.e., a bullet or a blow, but how can he survive the wounds? I mean, Colossus demolishes him in AXM and the motherfucker is still talking, does that mean he can survive one of the Hulk's direct punches as well? Does his stored energy also heal his wounds the moment they manifest?

The energy he absorbs can be directed into another type of energy, so if he gets punched by hulk he can put that energy into punching back, or put that energy into healing. That is how he survives wounds (assuming he has enough energy). It depends on the writer but he probably could survive Hulk's punch, especially if he has a lot of stored energy beforehand. As to whether he can heal wounds immediately, again with the right amount of stored energy, probably yes.
 
Does anybody know a decent and free video editor? I need one that's capable of editing 1080p/60fps game clips recorded with shadowplay, mostly just for trimming the clip down. Thanks GAF!

I don't know if it is possible to know for sure. If I had to guess it was downloaded in 2012 but in 2013 you copied it from one storage medium to another.

I did copy all of my mp3s to different folder or even a thumb drive. Could that possibly be it? Its for govt job, and I don't want to be unsure. If it was you, and what I just explained, would you say 2012?

If you moved the file in 2013 then that's probably why it says created 2013. I would say I believe it was downloaded in 2012 as that's when it was accessed, it was then probably moved in 2013, hence the 2013 creation date. Best to be honest and with as much detail as possible

If I was pushed for a year it was downloaded, like they just wanted a year, I would go for 2012 as that is the earliest date on the file.

This is not legal advise or anything and the final choice is up to you.
 
Sometimes I see people react with certain reaction pictures of.... faces. Small pictures with different... faces. People use them on Twitch as well. Thought they were funny but I don't know where to find them.
