I've seen comparisons between Xcom and Valkyria Chronicles, and since I LOVED VC; I was wondering which of this games should I play next.

I have on my Steam backlog (probably because of some Humble Bundle or shit like that):
- UFO defense
- Terror from the deep
- Apocalypse
- Interceptor
- Enforcer

Should I play all of them? Are any of them bad? Should I play the last one first because of new controls? Discard all of them and buy Enemy Unknown or Declassified?

EU is a lot more newbie frinedly. The titles you have are classics (well, UFO defense is) but are also fairly old and can be off putting to beginners. I'd say EU and the expansion Enemy Within, and if you like them, go back to UFO defense.

Not really liking that Mass Effect-looking art direction.

Hopefully there will be some good ole' mid-west farm locations. Those always scared the shit out of me in the classic X-Com.

I love the reboot but the scale of that game was so much smaller than the originals (only one base, small squads, much less variety of weapons/ships/aliens) with this being PC exclusive hopefully it will be more like the originals

The lack of a console version is disappointing. Seriously, there is no reason not to.

I can think of a few reasons:

- lower budget than AAA console release with expensive cutscenes etc.
- no physical disc version needed
- no expensive marketing needed
- early access on Steam
- mod support possible
- pc-only allows more complex gameplay
- no console hardware restriction

But I'm pretty sure the game will end up on console and/or mobile anyway. I guess it's just attractive for devs to launch non-mainstream games on Steam first. Dirt Rally did the same.

I've played EU on PC and console and found both experiences enjoyable, but if I have to play it on PC only so be it.

Course I doubt my current PC will be able to play this.

UFO Defense is good, but oldschool as fuck. Terror From the Deep is like UFO, but something like 10 times harder, and the original was pretty damn hard already. Apocalypse is... just sorta there. Good, but a little half baked.

Do not, under any circumstances, play Interceptor or Enforcer.

I'd start with XCOM EU + Enemy Within. Maybe grab the Long War mod, if you think you're up for it (it makes the game considerably more complex and difficult)

You should probably just buy and play XCOM: Enemy Within. The older games will be a rough ride in 2015.

PC only? Why...

Surely console version is coming further down the line, I mean they released the last game on iOS and Android devices. Have a PC that's more than capable of playing it but would much rather play it on console.

Quoting myself from previous thread...

I imagine this would upset long-time X-Com fans but I'd really like a entry where humans started on their backfoot and were on the brink of defeat. The campaign starts out with X-Com being a resistance group with low-tech before slowly rising from the ashes and becoming the X-Com we know.

Looks like I might have got my wish. Too bad I'll never play it.

Wow PC Exclusive? Great, but not something i would have expected.

Steam and their Moneyhatting again! :)

Hope for a bit more personality for the Soldiers.

Get UFO defense, it's a classic for a good reason. Don't bother with the others.

Awww....the beginning of the trailer made me believe that we might get some alien allies. I think that would be pretty cool. Too bad.

Yeeeeeeesssssssssssss! So excited, finally! Hopefull PC focus means bigger maps, map variety and more units.

OpenXCom is fabulous and a good way to play through OG 1994 X-COM. If you want to see what happens to XCOM when the modders are completely unchained, go check out what's going on w/ OpenXcom. It's bonafide crazy.

Unless they weren't defeated? Maybe this sequel is based on the assumption that XCOM failed in the first game? Bad end route.

There's also the question of whatever happened to the Volunteer, especially since someone at Firaxis mentioned that he isn't dead at the end.

Lots of different directions this could go in.

edit: Also wondering if the council line should be taken at face value and it really is the same council members running XCOM, since that suggests that humans are running the world in cooperation with or at the behest of the aliens, rather than being completely subjugated.

What bitter sweet news. I loved Enemy Unknown and had been excited at the prospect of an imminent sequel on PS4, but I don't have a pc to play on. I can only hope my MacBook Pro can run this.

Don't care about it being PC only, as long as it has full controller support.

Don't wanna fuck around with a mouse and keyboard.

XCOM: EU was a worthy follow up to the originals, even though it was a little too stripped down for my tastes (the new style base building, and lack of multiple bases, especially).

Interesting that they're going PC only, that could mean anything at this stage, but at least they shouldn't be able to skimp on the M&KB controls.

Pretty much. Terror from the deep had a great theme but the difficulty and missions were nuts. Couldn't get into the later ones. The original's still a classic though the controls are weird.

I kinda hope there isn't much more to base-building (or having multiple bases). I want greater depth and variety in the strategic layer, of course, but the construction and logistics part of the originals is so tedious to me. I kinda hate it in Xenonauts, too, and it's easier there because they make basic supplies infinite.

Don't like the idea of going for a pc exclusive one bit. Hope the hardware recommendations are at least modest.

I never did finish EU but I am interested reading up on what they add/changed for this. Especially the PC exclusive aspect, as long as it is not some vague talking around an eventual port.

Also please don't use pre-rendered cutscenes. That was about 75% of the download for little snippets that didn't even look good.
