Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

I really hope now Armature does a hell of a job and the WiiU ends up being the best version to play (locked and high FPS, no bugs, no need to wait for patches in order to progress, that little details that were a given in better times).

When did NeoGAF (or part of it) decided that the fabled "NX" is a home console? Logic dictates is the successor of the 3DS.

Day one, of course. Igarashi is guarantee of an enjoyable adventure.

Because Nintendo has somewhat clearly suggested that the NX project is a console and an accompanying handheld that use a shared ecosystem of games. All this information is in the announcement.

It's going to be a 12.5hr game before accounting difficulty and completionist bollocks reportedly. I think $28 is a bargain.
People should stop doing this 'It's a 2D/Indy/DL game so it should be basically free' thing.

Game pricing being more flexible seems like something we should definitely encourage.
I mean I dropped in a $125 on this one, but I agree with you, if this game holds true to the others I think it'll provide a great experience at $28.

Oh man, now that the Wii U version having a physical release is confirmed I have a really hard time choosing which version I should get on a physical disc and which one I should get digitally (I pledged at the $175 perk).

I guess I'll go with Wii U physical/PS4 digital.

Also this sentence from the current news post makes me pretty confident that they plan to scale UE4 to the Vita (and therefore probably to the Wii U too):

[...]Our team knows the PS Vita platform inside and out, and we’ll do it justice as we bring you Bloodstained, running on UE4, to the PS Vita. Help us bring Bloodstained where -vania games belong – your hands!

And if I misunderstand something again then I just see myself out.
I think this is a pretty clear statement though, at least for the Vita.
And if they can make this statement for a platform that's even weaker than the Wii U, then I see no problem why they couldn't use UE4 for the Wii U version as well.

I suppose thats the best choice too, considering Nintendos digital store is less reliable for now,

More than anything, this thread has made me realize I was a terrible fool for having traded away DoS and PoR at some point in the past for paltry credit towards... something, I don't even remember anymore. Thankfully I hung onto OoE.
I mean, not like they're super pricey to pick up again, just the principle of it.

As for Bloodstained, is there anywhere that has a summary of details for all the reached stretch goals so far (or lack thereof)? Been trying to piece things together but it all seems spread out between updates on the Kickstarter page and other places.
Given that the main digital KS price is $28 (and the add-on price when applied in some tiers is $25), I wonder if the retail price will be $30 or $40. Would help my decision to back it now or wait until release. I wish the digital OST was available as a separate add-on to the lowest digital tier, or at least know if they'd release it by itself eventually along with the game.

Somewhat clearly is very wrong way to interpret what they said. The shared platform/architecture stuff was no where at that press conference, and they literally have only said NX is a dedicated video game machine. Anything else is stuff you added on yourself.

While I loved those games, I actually don't really regret selling them.
I'd defintely get them again when they're available digitally, but the awful art makes me feel less bummed that it's not sitting on my shelf.
Meanwhile, Order of Ecclesia will always be there.

And Bloodstained has just caught up to Torment ($3.070M vs $3.065M on day 21) thanks to the most profitable day in the past two weeks, and it could be on track to be the most funded game Kickstarter ever if it gets a decent last-days boost. It's pretty crazy how steadily the money keeps coming in on this thing, it has only dipped below $40K per day on two days since the beginning.

It is my understanding that the NX is actually a deadly, weaponized, spy satellite capable of full backwards compatibility with the GameCube.

Huh, look at that. Yooka-Laylee's totally flattened out.

They've been super quiet. Bloodstained and a lot of the other super successful Kickstarters did stuff to keep the 'hype' going, such as streams and social media outreach. I haven't heard jack from the YL team in a while, and they haven't really done much to keep the interest up.

Don't worry, I was a bigger fool. I traded all 3 away for gaming money. At the time I had beaten both PoR and OoE and I was current job hunting with no income, so it was the only choice at had if I wanted more games. I do wish i kept Dawn of Sorrow though.

Yooka-Laylee is very different because they have haven't had any... I don't want to say "real" stretch goals, but different kinds of stretch goals. Basically they set very firm parameters for the game and its content and were never going to add beyond that framework. The more money that comes in, the more money is just used to hire staff and pay them proper wages, which is a worthy goal of its own.

But Bloodstained has dangled that carrot every step of the way. People holding out for the Wii U and the Vita have come flocking back. Fans of Classicvania got especially interested when the Classic Mode was revealed. And people who want that live soundtrack will redouble their enthusiasm when/if it's revealed.

It's exciting to see where Bloodstained sits every day, but Yooka-Laylee isn't going to change much. The project is the same now as it will be in a week.

You don't have to dangle stretch goals to keep the money flowing. All it takes is engaging the community. I mean how cool would it have been to have the devs of YL do live lets plays of classic platformers and N64 era Rare titles? Stuff like that would've been great, and that's something the folks working on Bloodstained have totally delivered on.

It's about outreach, and the guys at Playtonic aren't doing it.

Stretch goals keep people spending money far more then the devs playing other games of the same style.

I wonder if anyone traded away the GBA ones. Those seem to have held their value pretty well (assuming u have a legit one).

Never played the GBA games when they came out, which makes them appearing on the Wii U VC a treat for me. OoE was my first Igavania, and I have been working my way backwards since.

Decided to back this up. It is my first backed project. I am still highly skeptical about what the game will look like because of Inti Creates. Hope they learned the lesson from Mighty 9.

If this gets anywhere near the Vita goal, I will back it just to get a physical Vita release of this game. This is perfect for the type of game I like to play on Vita.

damn 3.1 mm and 11 more days to go.

at first i thought it had already squeezed the limits when it was around 2.3 mm.
Heh, I wasn't even sure if it would reach the David Hayter stretch goal when the KS was announced. I don't think I've ever been more happy to have been wrong.

You may as well back it now because it'll definitely hit the Vita stretch goal in a matter of days.

Do remember you won't get charged until after the campaign ends, so it doesn't hurt to help the effort if you're set on making a pledge should a condition be met. If it isn't met near the end time, you only have to pull your pledge and, in turn, lose nothing as a result.

Yeah. I wasn't expecting much either tbh. Great to see there is still a small fanbase for these sort of games.

It feels like funding has increased noticeably since the Vita version was revealed. I wonder if it's just a placebo effect.
Well we now have both WiiU fans backing with their platforms confirmed and Vita fans hustling for their port.
There are a lot of people that wanted a handheld version of the game.
For all the bitching in this thread about the game being ruined and threats to pull their money, the WiiU and Vita fans are putting their money where their mouth is.

There's also that they chose to go for a 47-day campaign, rather than the more standard 30-ish days length. I'm not sure this is all that profitable, since it looks like it's just stretching out the slow middle part of the campaign...

Exactly, if Wii U fans really wanted the game they would put in the money and they have done that so far.

Wow, YL really flatlined. I still think they'll hit that last stretch goal, but damn.

Wow, completely surprised by the Vita release goal! I have so many great memories of playing the series on handhelds (including SoTN), so this is a big deal to me.

This was a common sentiment early in the campaign when it was just a teaser site. There is a whole population (generation?) of gamers who have only ever played Metroidvanias on handhelds. Zero Mission, Fusion, the GBA Castlevanias, the DS Castlevanias, even SotN on the PSP/Vita. I expect the Vita version to be popular.

Given the Kickstarter surge, I think I'm right.

It'll reach the Vita goal for sure but they haven't said a thing about a Vita physical release. So be careful not to be dissapointed if they don't commit to that.

As for a digital Vita release? That 100% going to happen.

It's probably safe to assume that most of the staff on this game will be carried over from the MN9 team, which is on UE3, ergo they're sticking with UE on the basis of familiarity.

Inti is also using UE for Gal Gun's PS4/Vita sequel lol

Oh man. The new Miriam art from the email update is phenomenal. I'm mobile and it won't let me download the pictures from gmail, but somebody should post them because they're so cool.

Also, for the Familiar Vote, the knight and the skeleton are so good and the fairy and the... thing... are so bad.

That glass throw tho

Also, everyone vote C. It's so silly.

If we bother them enough about it, it might happen. I wrote it everywhere I could :)
