Stella has been removed from FFXV; Itamuro writing game; Demo 2 June 9; FFXV not @ E3

My brother leaves before June 9th so he'd only be able to play it in its current state, shame.

No FF15 in E3 means it's coming out in 2016, wonder if we'll see KH3 at least.
I need dat Darth Vader tease at the end of the KH E3 2016 trailer XoX

At this rate they really should have just cancelled this game, them going through this many changes and taking this long to do it does not instill confidence in me. Director dropped, transitioning from a spin-off to a main entry, entire characters being dropped, story being rewritten (by someone worse). Yeah...

So uhhhh... New avatar, Kagari? :P

Also, no sequels is good news.

That one's not too surprising to me.

This seems to be a game that was inherited by senior staff who didn't come up with the original idea, so I imagine they'd want to do something else afterwards.

Screaming at everything.

This game will be trash, well, in 2017 when it finally releases.

And who cares if one blond female was replaced with another blond female

I mean

-All male party
-Messy writer change
-No strong female characters, are the summons all male too? Poor Shiva :(

This game is shaping up to be a mess

Queen Lightning doesn't look so bad now, does she GAF? Praying for FFXIII-4 @ this point

Bleh I tried looking for a video of the credits for Dissidia Duodecim but can only find the original.

But yeah Saori Itamuro is only credited as "RPG Planner" in the original Dissidia. She didn't do script or dialog writing.

I'm devastated that a character that has only been shown in trailers for a total of 2 minutes, had no real dialogue or character traits, and performed no notable actions has been replaced with a character that looks exactly the same just with a different haircut.

A sad day for the gaming community, nay humanity as a whole.

Can we not do this drive-by? The reason people were invested in the original character is because of the way she was pitched as. Character design, just the visual, on its own, is already an expression of an intent. When you see Cloud with a big ass sword you know he's a tough guy in some kinda uniform even without having played the game or seeing him in action. Character traits therefore are expressed in the design itself. Design has been changed, the new girl looks a lot more younger, less confident and more vulnerable, just from the outset. But we had more to the pitch of Stella than just that. We had scenes in which she was shown being in some kind of imposed rivalry with Noctis, we had scenes from trailers and descriptions that gave ideas of what her character is like. All of these were presented to us in order to sell us, potential audience, on the character of the upcoming game. That's what people were invested in.

We had a strong girl from a rival family who had similar abilities to the protagonist, being stuck in a Romeo and Juliet-esque star-crossed lovers situation. That was the pitch and some people found it interesting and an appealing point of the game.

It is now being discarded and replaced with what the new dev team thinks would work better for the game they are making - which is fair - but if an interesting pitch like Stella is being replaced with a vulnerable princess archetype that might not even hold a candle to better ladies in the series such as Ashe, Garnet or Yuna, well then of course people will be a little bit worried (although fair is fair, I'll admit that we don't know many details about Lunafreya yet - other than the way she is presented so far or, er, pitched to us if you want).

I mean.
Don't be ignorant about how this works.

I thought "story by" was Nomura no?

Nomura was credited under "Concept by" and "Main character design".

But they did. They cancelled Versus XIII, and started working on XV.

And now it might be actually finished.

going to go full Sarcasm mode

Oh boy FFX-2 a game with all females ITS THE WORST THING EVER...

Seriously give the all guy thing a chance, not like we've ever had an all male Final fantasy before, but nope gotta have a female or else it sucks, but it doesnt matter when its the other way around.

Why would you pray for XIII-4 when Tabata said that
Lightning replaced Stella
?

Has the game reached Duke Nukem Forever-levels of messed up development and jokes yet?

What a mess, keep on pouring money on that game ... And plz continue to ignore DQ in the west ... NOT! Really hope that SQEX gets its sh*t together...

All of the stuff.
Well, shit. The optimism that I was slowly regaining about this game is fading yet again. This has got to be one of the most love/hate relationships I've had with an unreleased game since Duke Nukem Forever.

They're still trying to be faithful to Nojima's original vision for Versus XIII.

alright, then :) ...

not sure i'm ready to get interested yet. nothing about these occasional news blips (or the demo, for that matter) has yet convinced me that there's a great, or even very good, game waiting at the end of all this...

Having an all male party and no strong female characters doesn't necessarily mean the game will be a mess.

The writer change and the fact it's been in development hell for almost a decade does mean there are pretty big warning signs though.

I didn't hold any particular attachment to Stella, but a change in writers now? No trailer at E3? I'm not really feeling it. Is the new demo just an update or will it be released otherwise? I want to try this for myself to see if the gameplay helps change my mind.

Part of me (a lot of me, honestly), kind of just wants the series to lower it's scope a little bit. Hell, I'd take fixed camera angles and the ATB back any day. Especially if it meant less than five or six years in between sequels.

Yeah seriously. Final Fantasy doing a bro road trip ? This has never happened before. In fact, even outside of Final Fantasy, I don't recall ever seeing this. Let them do their story: it sounds super interesting.

At least the gameplay will still be good, right?
They are literally using a demo to focus test the gameplay because they can't do their own vision for the game...

Also, story and script are different things people. Itamuro is doing the script. The story is still Nojima's (or a Frankenstein version of Nojima's)

At this rate Versus will beat the record as the only game able of being three different games altogether: FFVersusXIII, FFXV, FFXVIgnis

I don't know man. If the story is as stand-alone as they say but the game sells dozens of millions, you can be sure they'll make sequels for it anyway, potentially creating new story arcs that make the original look bad.

I'm just saying I would prefer a well-constructed trilogy (or duology) with smaller story instead of one big story stand-alone story in one game and a sub-par story in the sequel.

Why do we care that blonde girl A is replaced with blonde girl B when we know nothing about either of them.

This has been answered repeatedly. The thread is only a few pages long.

Try reading it.

Stella was an action girl who was in the enemy Kingdom and could also see the "light" of death. She was a capable fighter, had crazy powers and probably would have been a sub boss character as she was the opposite to Noctis.

Luna is most likely just a regular woman who probably is not close to the fighting at all, and so the hope for female party representation even in guest doses drops...

Gonna need a source on how Luna has no part in the action.

I'd just like the game to come out, THEN shit all over it if it sucks, but hating a game because GENDERS is seriously the dumbest set of mentality a person can have... that'd be like not wanting to watch mad max fury road because it had women in it.... oh wait.......

We should just consider the whole Versus XIII as expensive concept art and Nomura's daydream, that for some stupid reason got in the hands of the general public, and way too early.

Guys, they're not showing it at E3 because full promotion will begin at Gamescom, so please stop it with the "jeez this is bad" "release in 2017 lol" comments please.
