Stella has been removed from FFXV; Itamuro writing game; Demo 2 June 9; FFXV not @ E3

going to go full Sarcasm mode

Oh boy FFX-2 a game with all females ITS THE WORST THING EVER...

Seriously give the all guy thing a chance, not like we've ever had an all male Final fantasy before, but nope gotta have a female or else it sucks, but it doesnt matter when its the other way around.
Huh, now that you mention it I kinda forgot X-2 was an all female cast (well, I remembered, but I didn't really think much of it)

I suppose I could give the "all male party" thing a shot, but keep in mind that 2 of the 3 playable characters in X-2 were characters we already knew and loved from X, and the supporting cast were also characters that we already knew from X. It's a different story when we have brand new, generic looking, similar looking guys.

I'd just like the game to come out, THEN shit all over it if it sucks, but hating a game because GENDERS is seriously the dumbest set of mentality a person can have... that'd be like not wanting to watch mad max fury road because it had women in it.... oh wait.......

hahahaha ! I had not even made the connection.

The black haired woman we saw in 2013 ..... still in the game.

Oh no, the design of the Black (brown?) haired woman was the only good design in the game! And now she will be wasted like it alwasy is the case with the best designs in FF (Hello Jihl)

Should have saved that design for a different game and a main role.

Hope they get this game finally done soon, so they can start with FFXVI

I wasn't too shocked at all, blond girl A is now blond girl B and we all know about the all guy party so it doesn't really affect me that much...

Dissidia writer on the other hand.... I want to give my benefit of the doubt but those cheesy lines uuuugh

8 Years i waited for that one game by Tetsuya Nomura.....8 Years for nothing.
It crushes my heart, that i will never play that most wanted game of my entire life

However that doesn't man, that im not looking forward to FFXV. I just see it as another project. Not my Most Wanted anymore, tough

This is FF12 all over again.

Matsuno and Nomura both learnt that you can't do anything remotely new in mainline FF stories since the merger. Or else you get removed from the project.

A sad day indeed...

Bleh I tried looking for a video of the credits for Dissidia Duodecim but can only find the original.

But yeah Saori Itamuro is only credited as "RPG Planner" in the original Dissidia. She didn't do script or dialog writing.

IMDB says the same thing. She was the RPG planner.

I want to know more about what's behind the development. We got new Stella at E3 2013 and after only 1 year 3 months, they ditch her and announce Luna instead. A very short time to change the whole story, I think Tabata is one of the reasons that Nomura must leave the project.

Kinda baffling that they would use someone with this little experience, not to mention one with really poor track record at that to write an important game like FF15.

Then again, I have no confidence in anyone working at SE right now who could write a good script. Maybe except Ito.

We should just consider the whole Versus XIII as expensive concept art and Nomura's daydream, that for some stupid reason got in the hands of the general public, and way too early.

That's what I think it was at this point.

This has been answered repeatedly. The thread is only a few pages long.

Try reading it.

You had no proof that she could have gotten captured 50% through FFVersus13 and became a damsel in distress or Luna becoming a non-playable fighter later in the plot of the current FFXV. Still basing stuff of a trailer from years ago on a character that hasn't been seen since then.

I know Noctis and Stella were at odds with one another but we have no idea what the entire plot was originally and may not ever know. Maybe I just don't care about either one of these girls to be offended about one replacing another.

I'd love this for the meltdowns. Maybe introduce her with "Kept you waiting, huh?"

That would be extreme trolling, it would be much worse than the FFVII PS4 announcement lol.

Anyway I hope they didn't cut that Luna vs Noctis scene (they probably did), I loved that :(.

For people who missed it, i'll repost it once so the same posts dont keep getting repeated asking why people are upset, and being dismissive of "waifu characters" which is in itself pretty ignorant to be saying for any character.

Why do we care that blonde girl A is replaced with blonde girl B when we know nothing about either of them.

For people who keep posting this kind of thing, we actually know quite a bit about stella added up from the trailers and the information given out about her over the years, even if we don't know about how the story went exactly with her in it.

So for changing her in the story, it actually represents a fairly big shift in the direction of the game's overally design.

The entire point of the name "Versus" was because Stella and Noctis were supposed to be two complete opposite forces, like their respective Kingdoms, and they were supposed to likely duel over love and battle.

It was essentially a romeo and juliet type story where they meet at a party, she keeps her identity a secret and ended up being an agent for the other side even though she and Noctis shared the exact same situations of near death experiences, having the same power, and responsibilities to their Kingdom.

In changing her, they are essentially taking out that Versus element of her character, and thereby changing the entire point of the game. They are no longer going to be forced to fight each other, she will be relegated to looking pretty only, and probably not do much if the recent trailers indicate anything.

Its a shame for female representation and the actual interesting dynamics of not just fighting enemies.

Thank you. I'm sick of the "hur dur, we didn't know anything about her!" comments.

If you've actually been following the game since it's inception, we did have quite a lot of info on Stella, and she was easily the second most important character in the story, who was Noctis' direct rival. Not just some waifu. Seems they completely scrapped that plot line. Ugh.

Yes, its a shame. And to think Kagari even knew about this for months, no wonder she was pessemistic

Plenty more where that came from in nomura's garage :P

It's actually kinda interesting how they said that Stella supposedly didn't work in the story they were making.

Sounds like the code for "Marketing department said we won't move units with that pitch".

Need to add more brohug tents. Eugh.

Nomura was removed from the project because he had been working on it for almost a decade, was wasting money and couldn't realize his vision.

Stella looked cool from the trailers.

I don't necessarily have a problem with Luna. Other than the fact that I don't think she's a suitable replacement for Stella.

The sparse footage of Luna that we've seen gives me the impression that her role in the game is going to be small in terms of agency, and will likely be someone Noctis needs to rescue mostly.

Compared to Stella, who had her own sword powers like Noctis and looked to be his equal/rival in combat, which looked a lot better to me than someone who just sits in a chair clutching her chest..

I may be trivializing a bit but I honestly don't see what Luna adds over Stella. At least to me it seems an interesting character was replaced with one that doesn't inspire any confidence as to whether she will do more than say some things and possibly get rescued by Noctis and co.

We've only seen a small part of the game so this could change in the final product but Luna's design and demeanor in the trailer doesn't inspire confidence towards this.
I agree with this. However, I had no particular affection for Stella, so I'm not so much disappointed with the replacement of her character as with the female characters as portrayed thus far for FF15. Cindy, a blatant fanservice package with lingering camera angles, and Luna, a girl clutching her low neckline looking anxious. Fantastic.

Time for FF versus XIII the Novel then?

Shame though, Stella was a much more interesting character design then Luna. Well from what little we saw from them anyway.

Same.

If Stella was just replaced by Luna, ok fine. Hearing that they're re-writing/removing entire scenes and changing back-stories pretty much confirms that this game's plot will not be what was originally conceived.

And now not even Nojima is writing?....

The answers were non-satisfactory.

They were pretty good actually about explaining why they are currently disappointed with the change, notably Frumix's.

If explanations of people's thoughts on why are they disappointed with something isn't enough for you, then you'll just have to deal with it I suppose.

But it has been 9 years...

OT: Fuck Square. I bet the whole Romeo/Juliet thing that was the basis of this game, is all gone now. And of course Luna will be a mindless doll. Unlike Stella that appeared to be an interesting character that could put up against Noctis and his party.

What do you mean ?

HT: Well, naturally it is a prerequisite for the BGM design that the player will be spending a long time in the game world. For the demo we only included music during combat and events. So we will be adding more variety for the full game. And because clearly it is an open world game, things like having the BGM start up again after being silent for a while are very much a genre standard. So we want to do what we can to meet those standards.

If the new writer is the one who made the decision to change the story so it would have closure at the end, then he might not be so incompetent after all.

Anyway...

Square just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about waifu culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the waifu public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase FFXV for either system, nor will they purchase any of Square's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Square has alienated an entire waifu market with this move.

Square, publicly apologize and bring back Stella for FFXV or you can kiss your business goodbye.

That's the thing, I wouldn't care about the all male playable cast if they actually had strong, decent female characters in the game as well.

But it doesn't look like they have that, and if anything are going to lengths to prevent that.

bringing in new blood seems like a sound decision
they can't rely on the talent of watanabe/toriyama forever!

Did they stipulate when this change was made exactly? This sets off alarm bells for me, at this stage of the game.

No they didn't. But the Nojima's draft has presumably been done for years now, there's a long stretch of time were the change could have occurred.

I mean

-All male party
-Messy writer change
-No strong female characters, are the summons all male too? Poor Shiva :(

This game is shaping up to be a mess

Queen Lightning doesn't look so bad now, does she GAF? Praying for FFXIII-4 @ this point

iqgdezdlyhxry.gif

Yes she does.

Stella was a much better name stellar from the Latin costellacion
meaning constellation of stars.

Luna is just singular ( one moon)

well whatever I am sure it was Nomuras Idea.

I hope this point wasn't already made clear but from a cursory glance nobody quoted you so...

Actually stella means star (one star) in italian while luna means moon, they are bot singular names.

Also constellation in latin should be astrum I guess? The only thing I'm 100% sure is that constellacion is not a latin world, sounds more spanish to me.

Sorry for the divagation.

Plenty more where that came from in nomura's garage :P

I'm not that big a fan of most of his designs. And the ones that are great are mostly the ones used as side characters or villains. (favourites are characters like Lulu, Quistis)
Brown haired lady stood out because she was so much better than the rest. The old guy was also good.

This is FF12 all over again.

Matsuno and Nomura both learnt that you can't do anything remotely new in mainline FF stories since the merger. Or else you get removed from the project.

Matsuno was removed from FFXII because he was a control freak who wanted development on an FF to be the director's "dictatorship" rather than the team's "democracy" (his words, not mine). Even a smaller-scale project like Vagrant Story was a huge mess with lots of delays and cancelled features and literally 50% of the story scrapped because of his incompetence.

They were pretty good actually about explaining why they are currently disappointed with the change, notably Frumix's.

If explanations of people's thoughts on why are they disappointed with something isn't enough for you, then you'll just have to deal with it I suppose.

People either had a waifu-complex and Frumix's idea rested on baseless presupositions about Luna being a damsel in distress, when we don't know anything about her.

Yeah, people are throwing a fit for nothing.

Huh, not at E3 despite we have a demo and we'll have an SE conference?

Weird, but I guess they're really focusing on 2015 titles.

Did they stipulate when this change was made exactly? This sets off alarm bells for me, at this stage of the game.

Would've been after the E3 2013 trailer. Tabata says the whole team went over how the story needs to change in the transition from Versus to XV and even consulted Nojima about it.

They didn't give any details but from the sound of it Nomura had originally set the story up to be told across multiple games like the Kingdom Hearts series.

That's a shame, I much preferred Stella's design over Luna's despite not knowing much about Stella in the first place.

Nomura was removed from the project because he had been working on it for almost a decade, was wasting money and couldn't realize his vision.
All the budget and workforce was shifted to releasing FF13 then to the FF14 rescue. What Nomura could do with a skeleton crew?
