Dark Souls III leaked info and screenshots [RUMOR - Better Details Write-Up]

Put a hub in if you want but don't make me go there every goddamn time I need to do something, unless your load times are literally 2 seconds or shorter (on console).

Well, in Scholar's defense, magic in Dark 2 was really, really, reaaaaaaaaaaaaally silly.

I just want Dex builds not to suck 34 dicks again.

Light DEX builds destroyed at lower Soul Levels due to the Ring of Blades + Flynn's Ring combo. Chaos Blade in particular is a goddamn monster, you can get close to 500 AR with no infusion or spell buffs and it has 160 Counter Damage. 160.

Change of pace

Level up husbano

Make it a brown husbando and I can work with this.

The hub-centric design needs to go.

Demon, Dark 2 and Bloodborne all suffer from it. Dark 1 is a far superior experience precisely due to the lack of a hub, forcing you to walk everywhere.

If they are gonna have a hub, it better be as good as the one in Demon. Majula and the hunter dream ain't nearly as good.

Eh, the Nexus is quite overrated imo. I'll take Majula over it any day.

As long as it's Evetta Muradasilova as the VO for the level up waifu, I will be happy.

Yeah, that's cool too. Lucy Briggs-Owen is another fine choice.

Their wills are weak, minds young

More slash damage than dex itself. The Rapier was and still is a monster.

Slash is still pretty damn good for PVP too.

thats a dark souls game alright. in the pictures that is

Majula was terrible and served no purpose other than leveling up. Almost every NPC serves a purpose in the Nexus helping the player and most of the NPC you meet goes there. It was stupid having one of the vendors be outside a jail cell with exploding enemies as well as being in one of the most active places for PvP.

Eh, the same goes for Majula, really. You send people there who sell you stuff, there's the blacksmith who will upgrade your weapon, and through your journey you will advance the NPC's quests, taking further the theme of memory loss and hollowing, it was quite interesting imo.

About the second part, yeah, I agree, but I wasn't comparing Dark Souls II and Demon's Souls, just Majula and the Nexus.

Surprisingly, I was also fond of the Hunter's Dream, even though I thought I would hate it. I don't want any more Souls games to have empty huds and only two vendors for everything, but I think it worked pretty well for Bloodborne, I didn't mind it as much as I thought I would.

Dunno man. Ruth Negga was a really cool choice. She has a lovely voice.

Is Ruth Negga the voice of Shana-chan?

FAKE EDIT: Yes she is, I agree, Shana-chan is awesome, man <3

Yeah, the Bloodborne hub was...really poorly thought-out.

It seems like it started as a concept fundamental to the rest of the game but they made other design decisions or fixes or mistakes that made it less and less useful. You have limited blood vials, come here to exchange out with storage! But now it's automatic for ease-of-use, so, uh, a single storage point seems pointless. And now you can just store 600, so whatever.

The hub idea isn't inherently bad. It just seemingly got away from them in Bloodborne.

The screens look so much like bloodborne. Could be early work in progress dev shots from bloodborne development. Or maybe dlc WIP shots. Whatever the case it needs to stay dark souls. If it feels too similar to bloodborne I'm going to feel like its a bit redundant.

If they implement something similar to chalice dungeons in DaS III, I kind of hope the progression carries across characters or something like that. Going through all of those just to get to the good upgrades once already was enough for me.

I'm kind of confused at this because Majula has the Emerald Herald (Level Up, Estus reinforcement, diverse advices, etc...) 1 blacksmith, 2 armor vendors, 1 stone trader (and the most important one) of the game, 3 Trainers (Sorcery, Miracles and Pyromancy) and 4 completly different kinds of NPC with their own stores and stories...

Majula was as lively as the Nexus, that you like more that instead of this is just a matter of preference tbh

But I do agree that the placement of Straid was trollish, just like that bonfire in Sinners Rise surrounded by archers =P

No, I certainly did not say that, that was your assumption. I'm not sure what me being a junior member has anything to do with it. I actually would like if someone did that in a game. The real joke here is that no one ever will, and that makes me sad.

Well, the dragonism thing was a joke. Maybe I went a little overboard but I would most certainly take that over yet another woman that does nothing but tell you how important you are and level you up.

I don't see where I'm going wrong with this.

Anyone who's stupid enough to use junior as an insult (which has been punished before) isn't worth engaging with, just ignore him. I've been called "junior" by someone who registered AFTER I did, that was a laugh riot.

Yep, Beserk reference, a very similar reference was made in Bloodborne too.

What i like (and whats different) about this is that whatever is leaking seems to be mounding up on the ground. Pretty cool.

Miyazaki needs to make a goddamn Berserk game already...

I mean Bloodborne was really starting to push that with some of its themes.

I think that a hub is very important to the Souls/-borne series.

The Nexus, Firelink Shrine, Majula, The Hunter's Dream, they were your home. "For now" - as Gehrman says.

I know, Firelink Shrine wasn't so much a hub as it was a central focal point of the world, but it still had this sense of "safe zone/home" to it, which is very important to these types of games.

The vibe of the hub can change greatly throughout the game. Bloodborne's hub actually changed visually (its music changed too), but even Firelink Shrine, which stayed the same music-wise and visually over the course of the game, had completely different vibes to it depending on when I reached it.

At the start of the game, I felt semi-safe and overwhelmed with possibility. Later, I felt kinda good when coming back from the Gargoyle fight. Then, after Blighttown, I felt like having been buried alive and having made it back to the world of the living. It felt like a major achievement, and I felt so relieved when the music started playing.

At the very end of the game, when I came back to go to the Kiln, I felt loss, and I myself felt kinda powerful and important AND absolutely meaningless at the same time. "So... this is it" I thought, and I looked around for one last time. All the characters (except for Ingward) were gone, and I thought to myself "What does it all mean? Have I even made a difference? Did I change things for the better?". A really weird sensation overcame me, and I just shook it off and ventured forth down into the Kiln. What an experience.

From artists are probably the most talented artists when it comes to art direction imo.

Their desingns are just insane.

I'm actually quite interested in seeing where this goes, even if I found DS2 a little lackluster, and despite the either obviously fake or obviously placeholder UI, this is probably real. It seems like they're aiming to shake up the gameplay this time around with the "sword arts", which could make things really interesting - DS2 not really adding anything to the formula was one of its main failings, I feel.
Obviously I'm going to wait for more details and an actual confirmation before I get properly excited about this, but DS2 was hardly a bad game, and these screenshots look quite promising. If they return to a more cohesive world structure and axe or heavily rework unnecessary elements like adaptability and soul memory I think it could definitely turn out brilliantly.

I'm hoping the Dark Souls 1 style HUD indicates similar gameplay design decisions in 3. So no quick warp from the start, leveling up at bonfires, no need to go back to a hub often for stuff (I don't care about any of the hubs - I prefer Firelink Shrine and how it connected to multiple areas plus had multiple NPCs like a hub anyway), several useful NPCS that can be found all over.

So, Souls is my favorite series since Demon's Souls, I just don't want to get hyped if it's an elaborated fake. I have no experience with this, what's the GAF verdict on this ? Legit ?

The setting has been hinted of a long time by an insider and the art / screens look incredible well done to be fake...

No level up waifu and no warp based gameplay plzzz.

One needs to feel lost again in a souls game.Bloodborne didn't deliver that at all ,unfortunately.

For some reason I don't expect them to do that.

Uhh dude don't want to spoil your party but each Souls games becomes more... streamlined than the one before. For DaS3 I would not only expect warp based gameplay but you will be also able to place your own bonfires (warp points).

I can imagine someone dragging the body (requirements) of a new bonfire right before the boss fog door...

Imagine all DaS3 bonfires like the one before Rat Authority boss in DaS2 (in front of the boss fog door).

Ehh... gotta live with it. No Souls game will ever be as hard and as awesome as Demon's IMO. That ship has sailed with mainstream jumping into the franchise.

Best areas of Dark Souls II
- Eleum Loyce (In general, the area is gorgeus after the Snowstorm)
- Shulva, Sanctum City
- Brume Tower
- Heide's Tower of Flame
- Doors of Pharros
- Drangleic Castle (SoTFS)
- Shrine of Amana
- Undead Crypt (SoTFS)
- Dragon Aerie

The absolute worst areas
- Earthen Peak
- Shaded Woods
- Forest of Fallen Giants
- Frigid Outskirts

It is known...

Can't wait to see what Dark Souls III has to offer with a Eclipse-like setting...

It's not even that big, but I really liked it.

Bloodborne would have been fantastic for this; the level design is convoluted enough to support it.

It is harder to get a sense of Yharnam's distribution as opposed to Lordran, though. Not only because you teleport everywhere, but because Lordran is distributed more vertically, whereas Yharnam is more chaotic, and there's no central landmark to look for.

Demon is the easiest one of the four games, bro.

Except for some of the super broken shit; some of the black phantoms had ridiculous HP, but that was just inflation.

Get ready for that one enemy that drags your sacrifice bonfire away and when you warp to it you get to a location you have not yet been before

Oh yeah, No Man's Wharf was amazing and I really liked it... but I was kind of sad while playing since you can feel that the area was meant to be pitch black but that idea was ditched and the area looks very awful and rough in some parts...

Other areaa that gave me that kind of impression were the Huntsman's Copse and the Lost Bastille, incredible cool areas but sadly very bland looking.

I have to disagree with you there. It's so much prettier when you can actually see it! The implementation of the snowstorm was kinda shoddy too :P

Oh man, that'd be awesome - but better if you weren't able to warp away from them. I wonder if that'll be the caveat of self-made bonfires, not being able to warp to or from them. They could balance it so there're a smaller number of proper, warpable bonfires, with player ones being much more temporary.

I would take another level-up character, but I'm tired of it being a woman who does nothing other than serving you. FROM, please make this character a gay, black, and transgendered AI who can hold their own and travels with you throughout your adventure. If they die you lose the ability to level up unless you can find the special relic to revive them, and there's only one of them in the world.

Also the NPC is into dragonism.

Thanks!

No level up person and no hub, they both suck. Firelink style with bonfires to level up. Pointless loading screens and NPC yapping is not a good thing.

Another thing they need to look to Dark Souls 1 for is the plunging attack, they botched it up in both DS2 and Bloodborne. it used to be an awesome feeling getting the chance to do a plunge, now I'm never sure if it'll work right.
