Forza Motorsport 6 has "wet weather, 3D puddles and night races" + more

Man this is awesome new! Night and Weather was hardly a surprise given there inclusion in Horizon, but nonetheless is big news that its finally in a Motorsport game!

Also the 450 cars + 26 locations is great too! Forza 5 had around 300 cars with all the DLC, so I expect the other 150 to be cars from FH2, cars from Forza 4 that haven't yet made the jump to next-gen Forza and completely brand new cars to the franchise.

With the locations, I think all the 17 from 5 will be back, so 9 will be new locations which is more than I thought the would add. Rio, Daytona are confirmed which leaves 7 left. Hopefully we see Tsukuba, Suzuka, Infineon (Or Sonoma) and Fujimi, and some free track DLC like in Forza 5! Either way Forza 6 looks awesome!

I'll take forza 4 visuals at 1080p 60 if it means huge races, night and day lighting and weather... and the return of multiple light sources and shadows from forza 1.

Why do we need a billion polygons per car again?

Because what would we do if we couldn't bust out MS paint and draw red circles to show how WRONG EVERYTHING IS!!!!!!!!!!

I really can not wait to learn what a 3d puddle actually is.

PGR4 is a good example of 3D puddles, the car wheels would actually sink into the puddle to give it a realistic depth, a lot of games just use textures and the car never bumps or sinks into the road water.

Sometimes the sand in racing games does the same effect, it really should be more common.

The real question is how does the Ford GT get on stage?

R8 was behind the wall.

P1 came from under the stage.

Ford GT............the sky????????

I personally want to see Dan drive it in Dukes of Hazard style by launching over the first few rows.
That was funny. 😊

Suck a silly thing to put on your feature check list.

It really isn't if handled correctly. Perhaps they've got some really nice effect going on that their proud of for when the car drives through a deep enough puddle at speed.

Nice! Turn10 delivers as always!

Makes you wonder though, how is it possible to run all that at 60fps, coding wizards or clever design choices?

Both. In fact, the very nature of being a coding wizard can't be disassociated from clever design choices.

lol @ the 50 fps. Also, it better look breathtaking. Driveclub has certainly upped the ante. That's not to say I expect Driveclub-level graphics as DC was 30 fps and this will be 60, but I would certainly like to see more attention paid to the rain tech this time around.

This sounds like it should be great, the thing I wanted most in Forza 5 is more tracks. I also just ordered a TH8 shifter and three pedal set yesterday to add onto my Thrustmaster TX so I'll be ready for this :)

That can't be such a huge focus, at least not as big as it was in Driveclub, for a 60fps racer with such a big focus on simulation driving. If it ends up being anywhere near that while also being 60fps, that would truly be something, but I wouldn't expect to see that.

I really get excited to see this stuff, and the Forza hub has just brought my racing fandom to a new level, the rewards are kinda insane.

Forza knows how to make cars handle, and the wet tracks should bring a whole new dimension to this game.

What if "wet" weather means there won't be any pouring rain? Those screenshots don't show any rain falling, just puddles and dew on the cars. Idk... maybe I'm being too pessimistic? The choice of "wet weather" instead of just saying "rain" has me worried.

Is this a joke?

What's wrong with the way they handled DLC?

Everyone gets to see the DLC and the price really is reasonable considering each car still costs less than a hotwheels car. I mean, if you're argument is that they have too much DLC then that's a pretty weak argument. It's almost like you're saying that continued support of a title over time is a bad thing. Remember that all three track DLC for Forza 5 is free and that every DLC pack for Horizon and Motorsport include a free car.

The idea of people thinking they hold back content in order to turn it into DLC is so silly to me.

Not when you buy the season pass to get a discount on the DLC because half the cars are missing (not included) only to find that the car packs are poor, like in the case of Forza Horizon & Forza 5.

My point is in the OP it says there is to be 450 cars, how many of these cars will be on the disc at launch & not available later on as paid for DLC?

I'm not going to turn this thread into a discussion about DLC costs, there will be another day & thread for this closer to release no doubt.

I am looking forward to this, cannot see though what this 50fps is all about though :/

It will be 450 Cars on Disc at launch. Also people reached out to confirm with MS that it is indeed 60fps not 50

Well, the text reads like it was either software translated or written by someone whose first language isn't English, so I don't think we should read too much into the word choices.

450 cars. They never add dlc cars to the total pre launch.

I am going in expecting wet tracks meaning that they are wet and have puddles. I think rain as well is asking a lot with all the other things they have going on in the game. I would love for it to have rain, but going to keep my excitement in check until Dan tells me otherwise.

Going to be interesting to see how it looks during gameplay. PCars and F1 2015 had to lower the res to 900p for 60fps, so if Forza 6 can look anywhere close to them while being 1080p and 60fps, that'd be impressive enough. Even more impressive if it can stay locked at 60fps in the most stressing scenario, i.e. 24 cars, at the end of the grid and heavy rain.

Was thinking about this as well. To highlight "3D puddles" of all things is a bit odd, to say the least. It's not something that immediately comes to mind when you reveal the game and intend to mention its stand-out features.

Really? :P What would be the point of showing the cars themselves being wet if we couldn't see the rain physically falling on them? We'd go into races with the cars just soaking wet in advance with no evidence of any rain whatsoever despite the fact that Forza Horizon 2, which shares an engine or code with Turn 10, has falling rain?

I assume this means the windshield wipers won't work either? :)

The headline marketing number for the car counts has always been the number included on-disc. DLC is always in addition to that number.

Maybe when a race starts an announcer says "now that the rain has stopped we can get to some racing". IDK I just think 24 cars and 1080p, locked 60fps and having it have rain is asking a lot of the hardware. Would love to be wrong though.

This post couldn't have been more wrong if it tried.

:p

Dan for Prez!

So finally, something other than sunny skies and dry tarmac!
You know, I don't really mind if it was dynamic time and weather or not. As long as there is variety it's all good.

Exciting times ahead!

OMg LOL. I laughed so hard at the "now that the rain has stopped we can get to some racing" part.

What will the response be if this game requires an online connection in order to access the power of the cloud?

Then the cloud is real. :)

Well, if there really is no rain, the car likely got wet driving in the spray of the cars in front of it. That's what "wet weather" and "3D puddles" would indicate. The road is wet and it has puddles of water on track but it's not actually physically raining during the race.

Eh, Project Cars just happend, has more than 24 cars on track and rain. Its not running at a stable 60FPS but 1st party games are usually better optimized, so why shouldn't FM6 be able to pull it off?
I expect them to pull it off with graphics comparable or even better than Project Cars.

So the windshield wipers would only work when a car gets hit with 3D puddle spray from a car out in front? :P

This speculation is pretty funny so far. Although I certainly wouldn't mind seeing a cool effect where the car out in front generates a nice big spray of water that goes washing across the player's windshield.
