Dark Souls III leaked info and screenshots [RUMOR - Better Details Write-Up]

How about if DS3 combined level up waifu with a physically connected hub area and no warping? Too much maybe? It would heighten the tension of exploration to crazy new levels, but might give players more reason to retreat than push forward. Maybe incentivise pushing forward with all your souls by having them double if you light a new bonfire :P

Yup that would be VERY cool.

Something like Bloodborne with various workshops strategically placed all over the world instead of the one you constantly warp back to would've been more interesting than the current design.

I hope DS3 does something like that(but I don't expect it to)

I kinda hope that there's no health penalty for dying. Having your health slashed after dying was offset in DeS with somewhat increased defense and that invasions could only happen when hunan, but in DS2 it seemed more like it was just being mean for the sake of it. Effigies weren't too easy to come across until quite a bit later, and since you had to be human to invade it meant they would be guaranateed to have a full health bar, while you could potentially only have half of that.
Being punished like that doesn'f really make sense to me - I much prefer DS1 and BB's system where you pretty much just lose your souls (and humanity in DS1). It promotes the idea that if you keep trying on a tough area you'll eventually be able to get through it because the odds will more or less always be the same, moreso in DS1 due to the estus flask system.

22 pages are a bit much to sift through, so my apologies if this has been asked a dozen times already, but has anyone who can read Hebrew translated some of the text on these tombstones?

Am not sure which is hardest in general however I think pure black world tendency in Demon souls to me is by far the hardest experience in the souls series.

Of all the leaked images this one sparks my imagination the most. The Sun is oozing... something. There seems to be a huge entity off in the distance.

Everything just looks so surreal and bizarre. Those moments were my favourite in Bloodborne too. Is there even a word for this? The bizarre, other-dimension esque moments ? Lovecraft, I guess.

Where were you during their Kings Field/Shadow Tower/Eternal Ring days?

They went crazy with Armored Core during the PS2 era as well. But most people didn't lay those two series so they didn't know how much they like to make the most of a series should it get big.

I get uneasy from huge things in the distance being all menacing
I'm sure it all stems from this

It's just the holy grail oozing all our sins out as flammable mud.

it's infront of the clouds so i don't think it's actually the sun

Are people not experiencing Dark Souls fatigue yet? I mean Bloodbourne was it's own thing but the dlc/expansion hasn't even been shown yet and they are already working on the next souls game.

Don't get me wrong, I missed a lot of the choices in weaponry and fighting styles from the Souls games but if this ends up like Dark Souls 2 I might sit out on the next one. Especially after the changes to the re-release, taking out almost all the fun imo. I hope Myazaki can bring the charm back to the series, Demon's Souls was an amazing adventure. Loved unknowingly becoming someone else's boss. Best part of the info released so far is the inclusion of a story somewhat.

The fatigue comes when the quality starts to drop, like it has with other annualized franchises. Sure, we might be looking at three games in the span of three years, but if the game even hits Dark Souls II levels - I cite this as it's the one frequently regarded as the weakest of the Souls games - we're in for a solid game as a baseline.

Of course, I want something along the lines of Dark Souls and Bloodborne, myself. A lack of an interconnected, realized world was Dark Souls II's biggest flaw for me.

It's funny that people say Demon's is by far the hardest.

I played Dark, Dark 2, and Bloodborne before I played Demon's and it's thus far the easiest for me. Dark was the hardest.

Demons' Gargoyle fight becomes disappointingly dull when you replay it. Just because it's the first you play won't mean the grandeur of the first encounter holds. Difficulty discussions are entirely worthless and subjective and will become even less sensible with each new game.

Was Dark Souls your first Souls game, though? I'm led to believe that one's hardest Souls is usually their first (which is the case for me with Demon's Souls though I admit it became much easier when I acquired the (weapon spoilers)
large sword of searching
and then the game became a walk in the park.

Another one? Yikes. I don't think my sanity would be calm enough by the time this releases, BB and First Sin in one year really did a number on me.

I think there's no issue with this becoming a fairly regular franchise as long as the quality remains high. Yes, there's no way Dark Souls 3 will feel as "magical" as Demon's Souls, but if you go into games looking for that kind of novelty then you're only setting yourself up for disappointment.

That said I don't really want them to keep making games in the Dark Souls world. I have no problem if they end up going all the way to Dark Souls 20 or whatever, but I'd rather see them explore totally different universes each game.

People hoping for no level up "waifus" are bollocks. Come on, can't we have a soothing voice to enjoy after all the trouble of beating those monsters? :P

And besides, the "waifus" are perhaps lore-wise
some of the strongest beings in the world, like in Demon's (haven't played the game for much but I do have read many of its lore) or even Bloodborne (well, the heavy implication was there)

Well, if this whole thing is true (I guess everyone already think this as legit, yeah?) then I'm in.

Excited of course, but I haven't even played BB yet so I'm in no hurry at all for DS3.

Although I've played barely anything else but Souls since DeS came out, without a PS4 I think I've learned to distance myself somewhat from the series so I'm not quite as rabid in anticipation as I might had I already got BB done and dusted and played through every conceivable way the way I have the previous three games.

The screenshots don't blow me away tbh, the puple hue and ornate masonry on some of the environments give me BB vibes, but the artwork looks like we're going to get some amazing vistas and locations again. Souls4life.

Agreed. I love Bloodborne's unique look; it suits that story, universe, tone, and atmosphere. I would rather these series have their own distinct feel and look though.

Maybe I'm just nitpicking, because we haven't really seen much yet. And similarities between Souls games are going to unavoidable. But if we're going to get Souls games pretty regularly, I'd like them to atleast feel differently gameplay-wise and visually.

Again it's still early. Will wait to see if this is real and for more (hopefully official) footage.

Isn't that the point though, the thing that makes it so.. weird? You see something that is physically impossible and yet there it is.

Similar to the cutscene in Bloodborne where
an interdimensional portal [???] is formed over the moon to summon the One Reborn.

They went crazy with Armored Core during the PS2 era as well. But most people didn't lay those two series so they didn't know how much they like to make the most of a series should it get big.

To be fair, they pumped out so many Armored Core games as many, many titles were expansions. The earlier comparison to King's Field is apt: from 1994 to 2001, there were six games in the same style of King's Field, four of which were actual King's Field games.

They were able to spruce it up with most of the titles, and seeing as the Souls series is essentially a successor to those types of games, the same thing is happening here.

FROM are on fire! Lets hope they don't burn themselves out. The Souls game are numero uno experiences last gen and BB quite possibly my GOTY but I know when I had my fill. Wont purchase but great for the core fanbase who can't get enough of these games.

It's still more than a year away...

I fell in love with Souls in 2009, but I'm playing Dark Souls II and Bloodborne at the same time right now and I don't think I can handle a Dark Souls III for ages. To be honest, I wish they would continue each Souls game into a new setting and theme, someone mentioned a sci-fi theme in the earlier pages, that would be rad.

This series kind of took me by storm. I fell in love with it so quick. I can see how some aren't ready for it yet, but next year in the fall is quite some time from now, I'm sure it'll be time for the next installment with Bloodborne dlc in spring 2016 possibly?

Regardless, dark souls 1 has crept up into my top 5 of all time, I loved Bloodborne but I'm anxious to have the souls series level of combat complexity back. I miss my sun Mage and my big heavy armor wielding shield bearer.

I don't think I could ever tire of souls games. The atmosphere and world building, which looks amazing in these screens, is a huge part of that.

Recreation of the first flame gone bonkers is what i was giddy thinking about when i saw the pic :3

I guess you're right. That was the (mostly) pre-dlc era of consoles and expansion needed to be disc releases. Still, checking Wikipedia it seems they were releasing almost two a year, which is no small number.

It would require a huge gameplay change to work well, though. But maybe that's ust what the series needs to spice things up.

The only thing I found was this comment:

Only concept art, but the engraving on those stones is in Hebrew.
It's hard to make out the text, I think it says something about the place being a tomb, some woman being buried there, possibly something about god? not sure.
Probably has 0 importance overall.

Things they have to do to make Dark Souls 3 worthwhile:

1. Varied, memorable locales: With DkS2 suffering from somewhat generic area designs and Bloodborne's limited color palette, the next game in the series needs to give us levels that are as intricate and visually enticing as the original Dark Souls. Nothing yet has topped the viciousness of Sens Fortress, the unsettling feeling of Latria or the sublime beauty of the Shrine of Storms.

Look to: Dark Souls, Demon's Souls

2. Balanced co-op: Co-op has been easy mode since Demon's Souls, with enemies failing to scale with the number of players the host summons and bosses receiving meaningless health boosts. Creative fixes like adding in black phantom enemies (Gravelord/black tendency style) or buffing bosses to NG+ levels of strength would keep the game interesting and challenging even when you choose to play with friends.

Look to: Diablo, Borderlands, any game with co-op scaling.

3. Compelling Invasions: Demon's Souls did invasions perfectly, offering unique strategies like stealth builds and weapon-breaking builds while ensuring that, at least stat-wise, fights were balanced by soul level. Dark Souls swung too far in favor of the invader, giving them passive humanity buffs for every host they defeated, and every game since has neutered low/mid level invasions. We need to return to a system where invaders can be powerful and scary (Demon's), but not so overpowered that they can be reckless when fighting multiple opponents.

Look to: Demon's Souls

4. No throwaway bosses: I can remember every boss fight from Demon's Souls and Bloodborne, but Dark Souls 2 (and the original Dark Souls, to a lesser extent) suffered from bosses that were too frequent and not memorable enough. We need truly unique, challenging encounters where any boss can feasibly be someone's favorite.

Look to: Demon's Souls, Bloodborne

5. Insane build variety: As much as I love some of the niche invasion builds in Demon's, the immense variety we saw in Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 is without equal in the industry. Every seemingly useless weapon, ring and spell had the potential to be twisted or combined into something extraordinary. I'll never forget the first time I saw a Japanese player slaughtering entire groups of opponents with Karmic Justice, a spell that was almost universally considered garbage.

Look to: Dark Souls, Dark Souls 2

Agree? Disagree? What else do we need?

Guess I'm the only one that liked the Outskirts. It was a nice change of pace, It's only problem was being damn hard to go solo.

Well to be fair, I think it's a good idea botched by terrible execution. And yeah I agree, soloing it was an exercise in frustration. Never again!

They actually did this in the DS2 DLC (the boss scaling part anyway), it worked out really well.

Wow they wasted no time turning this into a Assasins Creed/call of duty esque franchise

the chances of there being a Dark Souls 4, 5, 6 ect within short succession after this are pretty unlikely.

pretty obvious DS3 is meant as the "finale". maybe From will eventually go on to do another, but that won't be for a very long time
