New Devil's Third Trailer (Itagaki/WiiU, Japan - Aug 4, retail is Amazon exclusive)

Game is dead on arrival in Japan. Western releases should fare better. I'm just hoping for a dedicated online base for this. Now that cod is gone, there aren't many options for military themed shooters. I can still find a NG3RE match everytine I try, so hopefully I can get some mileage out of this.

Lol. I missed the Amazon exclusive part at the end of the video. Dying of laughter now. Maybe Nintendo couldn't get any retailers to stock the game.

I mean in all of Nintendo's reports since the reveal the game had a 2015 release in Europe and North America while Japan had a TBD. I thought they may skip the region entirely.

Saying some of you should just consider buying a Wii U doesn't hold water, especially when we all know why Bayonetta 2 and other titles are only available on the Wii U. The point I was implying was the game is good enough to be available for all platforms so, unless there is some clause we don't know about, the company can get more money if it was on the PS4 due to the stronger market.

Did the company reveal the reason why this game is Wii U only? Is there a clause that keeping the title as a Wii U only, o\r is it strictly due to development cost, or was it due to bad forecasting?

I doubt they even had the option, financially speaking, to make it a PS4 game. The game had already been scrapped once due to the middleware engine dev going bust. Then THQ let the game go because they were about to die too and couldn't afford to reboot the project. The game has been doomed from the start. It was going to be PS3/360, so it was probably easiest to put it on Wii U. This is a Nintendo rescue project like Bayonetta 2--two decent gambles on famed action game devs for probably not too much money.

I do wonder if Valhalla took it to Sony + MS first. They had to at least hit up MS, given the former connection.

Codename STEAM is a much bigger bomb than W101, especially when it doesn't even have the excuse of WiiU games. That's the new Nintendo bomba benchmark.

So STEAMba?

It's probably going to be exclusive to GameStop in NA, isn't it?

It doesn't look like total crap any more, but I can't say I'm excited for it. I just don't see anything interesting about the game. Melee looks a lot smoother than before, but I'm sure it'll be really basic with little-to-no depth or complexity. Shooting looks fine, but again, it seems pretty bog standard aside from the slide mechanic. I guess it will all depend on the enemy and level design, variety, pacing, etc. because the mechanics don't look special. Multiplayer looks like a cheap third-person CoD clone that will be dead within a month (being generous).

It might wind up being a good game, but you just can't follow the best action game ever created with this.

If it's Amazon exclusive then clearly Nintendo has a rough idea of how much they're going to sell of this.

Considering how much they paid to finish the game perhaps they're still planning some kind of profit out of the whole ordeal. It's rare for Nintendo to be willing to take a loss on anything even if it's meant to bolster a spare library.

it's not the best looker but it's not ugly either. it does look better than the last trailer. i wonder if it'll be at E3. it just looks like balls to the wall fun truthfully

What makes you sure?

I see the yearly E3-fever induced hyperbole is in full swing :-P

Looks pretty janky but possibly fun...? I dunno. Could go either way.

Yeah, it'll bomb.

But fuck, I played through NG3:RE. If Itagaki can give me the depth of combat that was missing from that game, then I'll be more then satisfied.

They surely aren't serious with those graphics? Looks like an upscalled PS2 game. Gameplay looks questionable as well. What happened to Itagaki? I thought people slammed Ninja Gaiden 3 for not having him around but seems equally as bad from these previews.

Best wishes.

I'd have to think that they nabbed it strictly for western audiences, but, well...

I'm curious to see if it winds up getting a limited release in the west, as well.

If they're doing that in Japan it's possible that might be the case here to with GameStop. Surprised that is happening though. Of course there will be the eShop version.

Then again Nintendo might simply think the game might more more appealing to western audiences then Japanese audiences and they might treat the game differently here. I would assume it's western appeal is why they even bothered to pick it up in the first place. It might have never been expected to sell in Japan and that could be why they're limiting retail sales there to make the most profit off it there. If the game is good they could try to position it as a Call of Duty alternative for the system in the Fall since the Wii U is not getting that game.

Frankly I'm interested. It looks less janky than the earlier builds and the idea of going between third person shooting, first person shooting, and ninja gaiden swordplay could be just the right style of trainwreck to be a lot of dumb fun.

The graphics are "okay". Basically looks like any average PS360 game. Main character looks silly as hell yet kind of finds with the theme of excessive violence.

Activision are shaking in their boots.

Activision has nothing to do with this. Call of Duty is not releasing on the Wii U. That's a void for the system in the fall though unless Nintendo has something else that can be appealing action wise around that time. So instead of having it's customers spend money on other systems they would try to keep them spending money on games Nintendo publishes or are releasing on the Wii U or 3DS.

Graphics aren't great but better than last time and I think the single player looks neat. The main character's design is pretty ehhh though......like really bland. Multiplayer though looks fun and interesting and it seems to have a lot of game modes. Will definitely try it out since there's not a lot of melee/shooting hybrid online games like these around nowadays. If the melee combat is fun and has some depth in it, I can see myself having a great time with it.

The game isn't pretty but tbh, if it's locked at a fairly consistent 60fps, I don't think it'll matter.

Not that that's particularly likely either...

I hope the distance I can cover while sliding is something I can level even beyond what was shown in that ridiculous trailer.

The least appealing thing about it are all the canned executions. I mean maybe in the context of the battle system they'll be good (RE style), but I hope it's not simply a cinematic burden that slows combat down. I haven't been all that impressed with them stylistically anyway.

Looks a lot better than last year, although still a bit too janky for me to justify a purchase. I guess I'll wait for reviews to see how it fares.

I like what I'm seeing this game is high on my Hype list I trust in Itagaki, really hope the game isn't retail exclusive in the west

Devil's Third looks a lot better than it did last year. The animations and frame rate stuttered frequently during single player gameplay last E3. Yes, the game isn't top tier graphically, but I don't think it looks horrible either.

As for gameplay, I am really interested in the mixture of sword play/gunplay, as well as the ability to switch from 1st to 3rd person perspective.

Plain and simple, it looks fun to play.

Looks better than the E3 build, but I'm still on the fence leaning away :/

Maybe when it's $20 unless impressions are really good

Everyone talking about how bad the graphics are? I don't think it looks that bad really. It doesn't look good but it definitely doesn't look like a PS2 game. Plus, remember, graphics aren't everything when it comes to video games.
