New Devil's Third Trailer (Itagaki/WiiU, Japan - Aug 4, retail is Amazon exclusive)

Looks a lot better that it did last year. I'm pretty impressed.

Also, as for the Amazon Japan exclusivity, I think it might be a reversal of Xenoblade Chronicles' Gamestop exclusivity in 2012. Shooters as a genre don't do well in Japan, so Nintendo will likely make release sparse over there. Expect a wider release in NA and Europe.

Guys.

It does not look terrible.

The art assets are PS3/360 level, sure, but it's all running at 1080p60, and the art style seems to be consistent throughout.

Also, it's likely going to be ridiculously cheesy. Bring it on.

Look actually pretty good fit for Wii U, no other game on the system like this, so could do decently. Even I'm slightly interested in this game, depending on how good the single player is, and if I can find it at a right price. Looks mindless fun.

we were referring to the post though... he took probably the worse screen shot or animation he could find in the game to show it off. Thats why I said Wii U thread because things like that happen in Wii U threads. Lets ignore the other improved parts of the game from a graphical and animation standpoint.

Yeah, that was a cheap shot at the game. But that type of stuff (take a bad screen, push it to meme levels) happens all over the place not just for Wii U games. Look at the Tony Hawk thread for a recent example.

Looks graphically like an average PS360 game. If the gameplay is good then I'm fine with that. Been burned multiple times by PS4/X1 games that look good but shitty in gameplay. Single-player reminds me of Ninja Gaiden but with guns. Multiplayer looks to be more creative than most current shooters. We need more batshit insanity in the industry. Nintendo just got themselves another sale.

This game actually inspires nostalgic feelings in how bad it looks. It's a unique kind of "video game bad" that doesn't really come out on consoles anymore but used to dominate the early/mid 3D scene.

Like a made for sci-fi channel movie or a book hawked in the airport terminal.

Looks meh... But it seems cool and looks like it could be fun as well. Hope it doesn't take a while to see it on the west.

Oof I've been ragging on this game before, but now I actually feel kinda bad for Itagaki. It looks like making this game took a ton out of him, and for the results to be this... Oof.

Still, that main character is the worst kind of Mary Sue fanfiction self-insert crap written by a middle aged white guy that lives in Japan and always wanted to be a ninja...

Not really, considering Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden 2 are two of the best action games ever made. Devil's Third could be a complete trainwreck and Itagaki will still be an action game legend.

Let's not forget the Dead or Alive series. DoA2 through DoA4 all average 85% and up on gamerankings.

So it's God Hand.

DOA4 was Itagaki's master plan ona fighting game and boy was that shit terrible. Removed differences from character achetypes, the man would nerf what he would lose to. The story of DOA4 was a train wreck.

lol The story of every Itagaki game was a train wreck. Amazing games to play, though.

Wait, so digital and Amazon only? No store retail?

Wow. Well at least Wonderful 101 won't be the biggest bomb on the system after this

I don't know what publishing obligations Nintendo has with the studio, but this really seems like a game that could use some kind of gimmicky 'Orange Box' style promotion. Like boxing it with Fatal Frame as a double pack. Or releasing the multiplayer as free-to-play with a $20 single-player campaign. Something outside the box.

The video is bad. It looks very disorienting switching between third-person and first-person. The characters and story look to be filled with tropes. I'm not sure what the main 'hook' of the gameplay is supposed to be? Maybe the merger of sword-fighting and gunplay?

It wasn't shit in the slightest. Also had a much more interesting story than the in DOA5.

Haha man it's just embarrassing to me. Like accidentally walking in on someone jerking it to really out there pornography. Like, I really did not need to get that close of a look at your secret desires.

A bit like when someone goes off on a weird tangent over something completely innocuous.

Loved Itagaki's past stuff but this just looks bad. The technical stuff doesn't bother me much, I kind of expect that from a mid tier japanese developer these days. It's the gameplay which doesn't appear to be doing anything fun/interesting for me. The shooter part just looks standard and boring, and I'm not a fan of aim down sight cod-style shooters to begin with so just doing that again with a japanese twist isn't going to do it for me. The melee parts had a flash of doing something cool (the part with the guy that dodged and threw something that looked like shurikens reminded me a bit of NG), but for the most part looked like tacked on mashy stuff just there so the game has a character action element to invoke Itagaki's past work.

Honestly the shooter portions and the multiplayer online stuff just make me think it's from a developer who is thinking about the rise of the Western shooters and their overshadowing of the Japanese market over the past decade and trying to emulate that, which is bad. They should be using their own strengths and experiences to create something unique that could only come from them, because it's not like people are going to drop COD to play this.

Awww. Now it have Amazon JP exclusive.T_T
