Splatoon is the first shooter I've played in a while, and I love it because it does something different.
This is also doing something different. It looks rough, but the idea of combining shooter and character action makes me excited for it.
I also wonder if the dismemberment was dialed back for the Japanese footage.

Honestly all the hand wringing is pointless because it's not like Nintendo of America will A: Do any marketing for it, B; Knows how to market it and C: Has a market that really wants it...
If the game truly is awesome and fun, they will give it somewhere between W101 and Bayo 2 exposure, and it will probably have a regular 1000 plus players for MP.
It was a game that probably should have just died. I mean I think it is neat that Nintendo saved it because I think Itagaki makes a special type of game, but in the interim since he was last relevant the market has shifted away from action games like Vanquish and MGR, yes I know that is GAF sacriledge, and towards the Souls and Bloodbornes and what have you.
I will still get it though, it looks balls fun.

Interested how that slide will impact multi-player.
Yup.^_^ Even if the single player sucks, the multiplayer seems to be able to stand alone on the crazy fun aspect.^_^
I believe Itagaki won't let this be as let down as Suda's title here.^_^

Came in this thread expecting disappointment, especially after reading some comments before watching the video.
Not disappointed. Looks pretty cool a little quirky and totally fun to me. Looking forward to seeing more of this.

Please, don't go down this path.
The game looks rough and that has nothing to do with it being a Wii U title. There are plenty of great looking Wii U games, this just isn't one of them. It could be fun, it could even be a great game. But it looks rough.
Just be thankful the game exists at all. If Nintendo hadn't stepped in, it's highly likely this would never have released.
Probably them knowing it won't sell much in Japan because of the violence, genre and userbase.
Nintendo just was interested in the game, funded it to expand their portfolio and gave them time (and resources) to finish it. Like The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2.

My only fear is that the online will end up like Anarchy Reigns; fun/interesting but a ghost town in less than a month. I suppose the fact that the Wii U doesn't have a lot of other releases might help it maintain a community, though.

Viewtiful Joe 3 would be amazing. NMH 3? Nooooope. I'd take a new Itagaki action game over that any day.
More like early 360. I think they should've put some more thought into the art style or settings to set it apart. The character designs are adequately ridiculous, though.
