tbh I do feel bad for this woman, because she clearly has some deep rooted issues, and at the same time she fought for black civil rights. she's not at all a bad person...

that rap song doe, that R&B doe

I wonder what led her to lie about the whole thing. I'm sure a lot of people can relate to not feeling like they belong to a certain culture. But to go to this extent? Especially when she's apparently doing work for her community.

yeah but if she is out here faking death threats, she is undermining all kind of shit. Making it hard for the next person

I get that some people are trying to have a real discussion about race on this topic.

But no, you're missing the point.

This.....this one is about the COMEDY.

I'm sorry, but I don't think there is a "discussion about race" to be had here. This woman is out of her fucking mind.

I'm sorry, but you don't get to go to a tanning salon and get the light-skinded special, get some micro-braids installed, and then literally parade around lying to people about being black, and think that I'm not going to look at you like you're fucking batshit insane.

You don't get to trivialize my race that way. And I don't care the slightest who you are, what you think you're doing for my community, or how many black kids you adopt. NONE of that shit matters. You don't get to wear my race like a damn costume.

Because lord knows my black ass can't parade around as a white person and get all your damn privilege.

I hope this lady gets nothing but CLOWNED for however long this story stays in the public conscious.

EDIT: I realize that you likely actually meant that this story is funny. I'm just getting a lot of that "There's a discussion to be had here" bullshit popping up in my feed.

My last dig at her because, she is clearly not right in the head (and I'm actually beginning to feel sorry for her):

This woman went deep deep undercover.

I'm out. I can't take anymore.

At the point of this tweet, she probably had herself convinced along with everyone else.

this is my stop... i can't even begin to explain how backwards that is, never mind the amount of levels that this transcends.

I'm not gonna lie, i think this woman solved racism and she has transcended into a being that is utterly, unequivocally and irrevocably inscrutable. this is just... nah, this is my stop, i gotta go.

for real like

how she thought it was cool to just put all this shit on. Like being black is like putting on a hat in the morning. "Today I'm gon be black, I think"

Because trans-people aren't lying about their gender.

But this really isn't the thread for this.

One is rooted in science, IE there biological reasons why a trans person is a trans person, and the other person is pretending to be something that science agrees doesnt exist

Trans persons are born the way they are, you aren't born as a black person in a white persons skin, it's not possible because the concept of race exists as a social construct to seperate individuals based off of physiological differences

I have to disagree. In both cases, a person is born with one set of genetic programming but feels that this genetic template (Male vs Female, Black vs White) is just wrong for them; they don't feel like they belong in society as how they've been born.

Really no different. That there's not as much a body of studies of this phenomenon is more likely because it's a less common phenomenon than transgender or it's a phenomenon that we typically view as social/cultural (i.e. white kids "acting black" or black people "acting white"). As an analogue to sexuality, adopting a culture that is predominantly associated with one race or another would be more like cross-dressing.

In this case, it really feels like something different; she's not just "cross-dressing". Like this woman truly believes that she should have been born black or that she identifies as black. So it's much more analogous to transgender than simply cross-dressing.

This thread is funny as hell.

I can't really form any words about the story (or the rap song or the R&B follow up), though. It's just kinda inscrutable. It does start to be easy to get mad about that tweet and her lying about her father, though.

There is nothing at all in this story indicating this.

I feel sad for this woman because she obviously wants to do good things and either relates more to another ethnic background or is ashamed of hers. But nevermind that. Sure it's inappropriate that she lied on declarations or whatever, yet this makes me think of a larger issue in society in general.

Here we have a white woman who adopted 4 black kids, fights for black civil rights, and wants so bad to portray herself as a black person she even lies about it and alters her appearance and background to fit in. When exposed, most of the backlash is "wow she's crazy", "whoa what", "is this the onion", etc. Yet there are tons of minorities in the world who actively try to make themselves more white, and most people wouldn't bat an eyelid. It's "understandable", especially in entertainment circles, and the Asian trend of lightening your skin to appeal more "internationally" is generally accepted. People changing their names to be more "normal" (White American) and to draw less attention is also something which people don't consider to be deceitful or crazy.

Isn't all that kinda sad? Many societies view being white as some sort of ideal or norm, and the attitudes towards the concept of race is skewed that way. If non-whites want to try to be more white, that's kinda okay, but if whites want to be other races, damn there's something wrong there. Right?

Here's a thought: If we start to accept white people wanting to become black, maybe cops who are so trigger happy when dealing with unarmed black people will think twice. If they don't know if the black people they see are really black or whether they could be the son or daughter or cousin or whatever of someone they might know who's just -pretending- to be black? Okay, that's a ridiculous thought, but that's how ridiculous I think society is today with regards to racial matters. :(

I'm in the same boat. It is wrong that she lied, but her heart really seemed to be in the right place. She runs a successful family with 4 adopted kids, which is leagues better than the average American household performs. Science or not, if that's how she truly feels inside, there's no reason we shouldn't support her. Yet since the story broke, we've already seen people double down on focusing on her appearance and shaming her for trying. And then people ask why she would hide it?!

Maybe black is her perception of beauty. From an aesthetic standpoint, it doesn't seem any more far-fetched or unreasonable than the injections we see people getting nowadays. Also, going off of the information other users have posted, she has a marvelous track record and has done much more good than harm.

I can't be mad, nor do I think she's crazy.
