Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

We're not getting to that 5,000,000 mark in time, are we GAF? Think we might get those procedurally generated dungeons anyway, regardless of the final stretch goal?

Actually it's more then likely it's going to happen.

Putting things into perspective the current Kickstarter is 4500k plus an additional 150k from Paypal pledges, that's 4650k right there.

There is only 350,000 to go until we hit 5 Million.

Mighty No. 9 for example made 600,000 in it's final day.

Getting an additional 350,000 on the last day for Bloodstained is pretty much a foregone conclusion.

Keep in mind that there's 25 hours left to go and the last Paypal number we have is $150k, so that means we're at $4.65 million. I think we'll make it.

My first post to proudly say I pledged the physical copy level just today!
You, sir or madam, joined the awesome club.

As I said earlier, I feel that there is a disconnect between publishers simply not understanding that demand for these sorts of games indeed exist, yet they firmly believe it doesn't.

The above three examples in the image simply prove the opposite. It's a unfortunate situation but I understand these publishers don't want to take risks. It's just a shame they have the mindset that everything needs to be a AAA seller or nothing nowadays.

At least I'll be able to play Bloodstained when the time comes. From what I can see so far, it'll contain everything I want in a Igavania game (multiple playable characters, large Castle to explore, multiple modes, etc) It's hitting all of the right notes.

But in one hour we are approaching the last 24 hours of this campaign. It is soon time to celebrate an amazingly successful kickstarter, and less to grieve about publishers thinking they know more then us about what we want.

I don't think it proves much as of now. Simply that 60k people want this game and on average pay like 75-80$ to back it. 60k is nothing when you have games in your portfolio that sell millions of copies.

I think what's more true is many large publishers have a lot of overhead, and a lot of people whose contracts include employee benefits. The company serves not only it's shareholders but the lively hoods of its employees. It can't take as big of risks, it can't operate on a razor's edge. The people aren't as passionate or motivated to run on bare bones and make a vision come true. Development would be naturally more expensive. Publishers do get burned when putting faith in optimistic developers at times.

Also new things come along that simply make more money, are safer investments, are in more demand. Never mind with kickstarter the consumer parts with their money upfront. They are entirely sold on a promise, where otherwise gamers get a chance to see the reality of the product before ever parting with their cold hard cash. In Kickstarter, you also get really passionate people going into uncomfortable waters to deliver to fans. The fans pick up on it. You get to be part of something bigger, rather than feel a publisher is just churning out entries because they know people will lap it up.

It's pretty different Imo. It shows more have the publisher model doesn't work for everything. It shows that society is best handled by a diversity of models in all it's facets. Including publishing.

That is the point, not every game needs to be a million seller to be successful. Publishers don't understand you can make a game with a modest budget and sell only 200k to 400k and still be successful.

Also remember that the 60k people pledging for this game on Kickstarter aren't the only people interested in this game. There are undoubtedly people that have an interest in it but simply are waiting until it's release to buy it then.

Dunno why you think that. We only need to average 14k an hour until the end to hit 5 million. If you're looking at the kickstarter total, you need to add the $150k~$200k from PayPal pledges that aren't tracked by the counter.

And we've been averaging around $20k an hour for the past 5 hours.

If they make the exact same amount tomorrow as they did today, they'll hit 5 million.

5 million is a lock now. There's no way the last day will make less than the second to last day in a kickstarter this popular.

250$ for the collector's box today,

i made my job.... really hoping to see the 5 million Stretch Goal.

The Demo of the engine was looking quite impressive, they build that in a few weeks... really looking foward for the rest.

Welp, I've waited long enough to give IGA my money.

Its really great that this game ended up being the most successful video game kickstarter ever, especially considering how IGA's entire career at Konami was basically him trying to squeeze blood from a stone.

Not only does the consumer part with their money upfront, some of them completely open their wallets up. Looking at the kickstarter a significant amount of people appear to have put in over 1k for this game. The average backing price is nearly 85 dollars. Pretty insane. Couldn't do that with just preorders.

We are finally at the last 24 hours of this campaign.

With currently 4527k raised on the kickstarter and additional 150k of funding via PayPal

With a current overall total of 4677k, we have only 323k remaining until we reach 5 Million.

Yesterday Bloodstained raised 442k on it's second to last day.

5 Million is within reach folks.

Slightly off topic. What was the name of that banjo kazooie KS again?

Yooka-Laylee - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/playtonic/yooka-laylee-a-3d-platformer-rare-vival

Hoping once these mammoth KS are over and E3 passes Bard's Tale IV will get some love. Happy all these games are getting the monies.

Mighty No. 9 last 3 days:
139k --> 273k --> 597k

Bloodstained last 3 days:
204k --> 442k --> ???

Bloodstained and Mighty won't necessarily follow the same pattern, but I think we can still expect a pretty crazy last 24 hours. 800k is not unthinkable.

Never thought I would do it, but I threw in for the $125 tier on a kickstarter (was already at the $60 tier). This kickstarter literally has it all for me, started out as a successor to some of my all time favorite games (Iga-made Castlevania games), eventually announced a Wii U and Vita version (my two most played systems), hit a stretch goal for retro mode (Castlevania 1 and 3 are among my favorite NES games), and now a roguelike final stretch goal (I probably dropped 300 hours between Spelunky/BoI:R/Rogue Legacy), holy shit. It is like this was made for me. Couldn't be happier to have the first kickstarter I gave more than like $15-20 be this one.

Plus, works perfectly for me since I prefer Vita games digitally and Wii U games physically, so the $125 digi/physical tier works well for me. Only bummer is no beta access since I'm not going with a PC version, but I don't generally bother with betas much anymore anyway.

Excited to see the final push, can't wait to see this shatter the records and that $5 million final stretch goal!

Count me as one of those who are against KS by principle. But I just caved and backed this. My first ever.

Possibly last.

The most I previously spent on a KS was $120 and that was Heart Forth Alicia. It's these metroidvainas (or IGAvainas). They are it for me. Never bore me and I can't get enough. I've backed pretty much everyone I've seen on KS. Crazy!

Wellp, this is fantastic. We're going to get the complete game. SO happy. Gratz everyone, we made it!

It would've been complete at the original funding goal. Everything else that comes after should be considered bonus content funded by overzealous investors. :)

I hope my pledge is okay. I can't check because apparently my email provider has blocked emails from Kickstarter and I apparently forgot my account password, which can only be reset via email.

That's....going to be a problem when it comes time to give them your address for shipping or e-mail for digital rewards....

So when it's all said and done, the game will have made 10x it's needed kickstarter goal for the game to happen?

With the publisher funds too, they got, like what, $10 million then for this game?!

I keep thinking over going for the $125 tier for a Wii U and GOG copy. On one hand, its a lot (to me anyways) to spend on one game. On the other, Igarashi is the person who got me to buy a GBA, DS, PSP and 360 for his games.

I'll sleep on it, but I'm leaning bumping up my pledge.

For Count Dracula himself!
For Christopher Lee.

Don't you mean Christopher Bee?

The really sad thing is this is the only reason I knew who he was. If it wasn't for the joke credit I would be finding out now.

I can safely assume that I can be able to watch an archive of the final live stream somewhere over at http://www.twitch.tv/ffstv after the stream is over.

The 8-hour kickstarter launch was archived and made available quickly:
http://www.twitch.tv/kindafunnygames/v/4944790

So I'm betting that Video Games AWESOME! will do the same for the final stream.

I was lucky to have the night off the day it started, but no such luck on this one. Maybe I can sleep really early but more likely I'll check it out when I get home on Saturday.

This game became the highest funded video game kickstarter of all time on the same day Lord Dracula himself passed away. =(

IIRC he passed several days ago but his family waited before making it public.

Still undecided about which version to back

Yeah, I'm trying to get the ISP to fix it but I'm stuck in this endless loop of getting autoresponses with solutions to unrelated issues. If I don't make any headway by noon tomorrow I'm going to have to give Kickstarter themselves a call and see if they can fix my account some other way.
