This isn't the way to show her passion about the black population. Being completely dishonest about her race and heritage is a betrayal on the people she's supposed to represent. And let's not kid ourselves, she did this because she thought she wouldn't get as far as she did in the NAACP if she "stayed" white.
"Look! I'm black just like you! I'm one of you! Nosering, thick curly hair!" is extremely patronizing and offensive to the black community. And I'm sorry but there's no chance that she's anything but crazy. There's plenty of people who are passionate about a population or region without pretending they're from there

I was about to post another big comment but there's no point. It's funny how 'race is only a social construct' is thrown out when it needs to suit your narrative. Why can't she be black, what does it mean to be black, black is just a feeling. And yet, that social construct is thrown in the face of black people everyday in America. In this thread, you have people of color, especially black people say what this woman has done is damaging to actual ADVANCEMENT of civil rights and combating social issues affecting visible minorities, but those are almost handwaved away with, hey, she married a black guy, she has black kids/black siblings, her heart was in the right place. Let her do what she wants. It seems there literally is nothing you can tell them they can't do.
A branch did, he has done far too much good to be seen as a joke.
Thankyou, this is kinda what I wanted to say. I saw someone say it on here earlier I think. It's almost like a costume for her, or something fun she can play with and have some fun.
At the end of the day, she can easily divorce her family, go home, wipe off all that bronzer and throw some shampoo in her hair, and who is she? She's still gonna be Mary-Anne from down the street and she no longer has to live with the social or political burdens that face "real" POC. Why have the people around her let her get this far, even if she is doing good things in the world.

Fucking demeaning, every day black women and girls are told they are dirty, sluts, and ugly. But a white woman wants to be black, now it is brand new world, and groundbreaking. Folks just refuse to even begin to understand racial issues.
You don't seem to understand that she isn't "being black" what she's being is a bunch of stereotypes and saying that's what "black" is. Being black isn't wearing dreads or talking a certain way, or liking certain things, or hating on black guys getting with white women.
You wanna get into the culture? That's a different story, a different discussion, but that is not what she's doing,
she looks like a dress to me
This thread makes me uncomfortable as hell. Apparently I'll get torn up for this, but I don't see how you really separate this from being transgender. I don't really see the problem with either. Be what you feel.
This thread reads like what I'd imagine a Stormfront thread about Caitlyn Jenner would. Maybe I'm too drunk to process this but... Fuck...
Except I did say that. Literally go back several pages and read my posts. To this woman, black is just a costume. One she takes off at the end of the day when she has a shower and the bronzer comes off, the muted shade of lipstick, the hair products washing off her hair. She's reduced the identity of a black woman to a stereotypical costume. It's very disingenuous, especially trying to deny her father was a white man.
I don't see how you really separate this from being transgender.

Chet bout to remake that one movie where he went black for a scholarship but this time he's doing it for a Cash Money record dealYet I respect her more than Chet Hanks, he talks about that life, she choose to live it.

It's the level of dishonesty on display.
I don't quite get why this question's come up so many times in the thread, but if we're going to use the Caitlyn Jenner example. Everyone knew about Caitlyn before. Everyone had seen Caitlyn before. Caitlyn never made an attempt to hide what she was, and Caitlyn was very open about what was going on, and why she was doing it.
This woman lied about her heritage, lied about who her parents were, and used those lies to gain some semblance of political power while representing a race that wasn't hers. She knew she wasn't black, and still manipulated her way into a position of authority within that community.
So the big difference is dishonesty. And there is nothing about what she was trying to do that necessitated her dishonesty. She didn't have to pretend to be black to enjoy the things she enjoys, or to help advocate for the community she was a part of anyway. So not only was it unnecessary, it was dishonest. It was fraudulent.
A white woman joined a black organization. Then she became the president of it.I'm trying, but I'm not getting the outrage/hysteria.

This is pretty much where I'm at now. It's a shame that she feels she needs to coop blackness for her passion to truly matter to her. In the end, what it's really implying is that black issues are not really 'American' issues. It's more or less saying if you're a non-black person..."well, there is no reason for you to really care about the plight of Black Americans". She could have accomplished all that she did without putting on a caricature and she still would've been respected for it.This isn't the way to show her passion about the black population. Can we stop fucking comparing this situation to transgender issues and Caitlyn Jenner, please?
The people doing it don't seem to understand either situation. Somebody's gotta explain it to them.
I don't think this is really going to go anywhere though.
Not to agree with the other guy, but how many threads have we had on whether or not a person should reveal their transsexuality or not?
If a transsexual woman were the head of some popular woman's organization, said she was a woman, etc., would we say that she wasn't a woman upon learning of her transsexuality?
Or more, that she was a liar?
