There's a reallllly big difference between Transgender people lying because fear of their safety and what this lady is doing here. Like, Grand Canyon big.
 
Just goes to show how little thought and interest goes into being black in America. Unless you are black then it is on your throat like a steel boot.

Judging by this thread, in a corner of the internet that is unusually tolerant by most standards, I genuinely would be worried about this woman's safety.

I haven't said it is and you clearly don't understand my argument. The whole point of that analogy was to show that you're judging her by the wrong standard.

Because she is white. She was born white, and will die white. No matter what she feels she can be. This isn't up for discussion.

50 years ago, 'you aren't the same as us, you're black and always will be, even one drop of black blood taints you'.

50 years later, 'how dare you, race is a social construct, you don't get to decide who we are or who we can be, if we feel black, we are black, we're all from the African continent'.
 
I'm not sure if it's a psychological identity issue or simply a scam, considering she makes a living about it. She even cut contact with her parents. She takes it too far when she starts preaching about being black. I don't even know what to think. What a mess lol

But is race entirely about heritage? Obama doesn't identify as half black, for instance.

I think there is something here. It's unfortunate that she lied but in maintaining that identify today I don't see another way.

I just don't think she's the best spokesperson for what might be a legitimate thing highlighted here.

And now you're accusing your fellow GAFers that posted here and find her action as silly/unacceptable as people that are willing/seeking to inflict harm to her. Or even worse perhaps, willing to inflict harm to the "lying Transgender people" since your rationale so far is the situation of her and Transgender people are the same, right?

Don't be ashamed now: quote the people in this thread, right here, that makes you genuinely worry about her safety. Name them. Bring them out in the open.

Obama has a black/African father from Kenya. He chose to self-identify as Black because he is black. This woman is Czech/Swedish and whatever else her mother said they are. She has two white parents, she is not and will never be black, no matter what she falsely identifies as.

What is this, I swear I feel like slamming my head on a desk. I like how every notion of race/ethnicity goes out the window when it's a white woman who feels she can be anyone. Every other post is about how this poor woman is just yearning to breathe free and be who she is, and how it's not a problem etc.

(Aside from skin pigment) Racial differences are purely down to cultural differences, if a person prefers a different culture that does not mean they were born in the wrong ethnic body, that means they prefer that

To take Transrace seriously would mean 'accepting' that each race's brains are different and that is just monumentally wrong, humans brains differentiate between gender (and we now understand on degrees of it)....I mean are people seriously saying 'black brains are different' and that someone could be born with one who is a different race?

Just to back up Crab's argument, I can recall an almost identical post to this (exact same analogy, very similar wording) made by someone rather intolerant of transgender people in a thread a few years ago.

Isn't all that kinda sad? Many societies view being white as some sort of ideal or norm, and the attitudes towards the concept of race is skewed that way. If non-whites want to try to be more white, that's kinda okay, but if whites want to be other races, damn there's something wrong there. Right?

Here's a thought: If we start to accept white people wanting to become black, maybe cops who are so trigger happy when dealing with unarmed black people will think twice. If they don't know if the black people they see are really black or whether they could be the son or daughter or cousin or whatever of someone they might know who's just -pretending- to be black? Okay, that's a ridiculous thought, but that's how ridiculous I think society is today with regards to racial matters. :(

Is it only about brains being different, or about the way you are percieved socially?

There's a belief that many of the typical differences in gender are cultural (due to how parents interact with young children or babies of different genders differently).

It doesn't have to mean that the brains of different people are different. It could mean things like not being perceived as an outsider to a culture because of your heritage.

The insistence of some to depict anyone here that find her action ridiculous as the same kind of people that find transgender people unacceptable is, frankly speaking, getting kind of annoying and even insulting.

The comparison would work if she hadnt of used her false history to work her way into a position on the NAACP.

If this was just some random woman pretending to be black I don't think anyone would care because its not harming anyone. But she's co-opted a race for her own advantage. The stereotypical twitter and blog posts don't help either.

Are you kidding? Remember that time a white girl made herself box braids and was cyberbullied into never ever make herself that hairstyle again and a good chunk of GAF applauded the battle against "cultural appropriation"? That one.

No way a white woman genuinly wanting to be a black woman is going to be accepted.

Although it's true, that she really shouldn't outright lied in such a crude way. It's really weird how far she could go until something went knack.

I made one post pointing out the likeness of the arguments against transracialism with those made by people who are not particularly tolerant of transgender people, and this is apparently annoying and insulting.

You're clearly the one who is insecure and defensive about this similarity, not me.

I can trawl up the old post that I was referring to and you can judge the likeness for yourself.
