Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

So they're going to make a "mini game" for 3DS? That's cool.

Unfortunately. I can only imagine the sacrifices the people playing on other platforms will have to make in compromises so that the game will be able to be played on a 3DS.

I'm kidding, it's going to be like an 8 bit style game.

I doubt they've decided her voice actress yet. Anyway, while I agree with you that we could certainly use some more "ferocious" artwork of her, I don't think its fair to take a picture of her say baking a cake as a sign of "weakness". I don't think a character needs a permanent scowl on their face to be a badass. I'm certainly curious to see how/where they take her character though and I hope its awesome places :)

You and I are in complete agreement.

IGA spent 6 months unemployed trying to get publisher money to make this game. Eventually he had to take a dayjob at Artplay to feed his family. So while I'd loved it if there were more to show right now, you can get out of here with this "herp a derp IGA is lazy" narrative. Also, being one of the most influential designers of the 2D action/exploration genre who has delivered multiple beloved and heavily influential titles over the years isn't nothing. The man worked for and earned his reputation. Save your moral outrage for something/somewhere else.

I didn't know this, I can only hope that he's really happy about how the KS is doing and he can keep making videogames forever.

It was a pretty counterintuitive strategy. But because this KS was so successful, you can expect to see it a lot more in the future.

I don't think it was counter intuitive, it kept people talking, gave the project more exposure and probably gave them ideas for a lot of the stretch goals tbh. I highly doubt they had all these planned out from the start.

30k... what was the time delta between my last post at 40k? 20 minutes?

Edit: 16 minutes. We're on pace to hit the last stretch goal at approx 1:15 EST.

Meanwhile, games like Little Devil Inside struggles to amass 300k even though they poured their own money and effort into making an awesome trailer showcasing every feature of the game, the art style and what makes the game unique... And that's just one of the numerous stories that comes to mind, not including all the high-potential, high talent projects that get canned due to limited fundings on Kickstarter.

Then again, as long as gamers keep being attracted to known names over new ideas, stuff like this will happen.

lol guilt trip attempts

Yes, I want more of what I like. No, this isn't a problem to be solved nor something anyone can give me shit for. Deal with it.

Granted, people love Castlevania, people want to stick it to Konami, and the live action IGA publicity video was pretty cleaver, so I get why it's hapenning... But just like with Mighty Number 9, it kinda pisses me off that a well known Japanease dev can basically show a couple pictures that take a couple of hours at best to photoshop and walk away with million of dollars on a project that's pretty much an idea on a napkin at this point.

Personally, I wish these so called "Legendary" developpers would actually take the time to develop some content before asking for money... And at the very least offer similar effort to what some of their lesser known competition does... Not just hiring a PR company to "stage" an elaborate Kickstarter campaign... Basically, more content, less filler and PR stuff. Then again, as long as gamers keep being attracted to known names over new ideas, stuff like this will happen.

So while yes, I'm somewhat excited about a new "Castlevania-esque" game by IGA like most of you, I didn't contribute, personally, because I don't buy into promises. Show me some effort, then you'll get my money, IGA.
Good for you. Do as you will, which is your right. In the meantime, we'll do as we will, which is our right.

Kickstarter comments are already celebrating 5 million because someone said PayPal was at $175k, but I can't find that post by Judd so I'm still going by the $150k number (though it's likely more than 175k at this point).

Therefore, about 23k to go.

People who have proven track records of doing a certain type of job for 2 decades are going to generally get higher paying work and not spend as much effort trying to convince others to pay them it.

It's part of how the world works.

WE DID IT!

You and I are in complete agreement.

Ok cool <3

The stream is going to be anticlimactic now haha. They will have already met the $5Million stretch goal on KS alone before their final push stream begins.

SO excited to see what comes out of this one. Hopefully Iga & Init Creates keep the backers updated about the game's progress.

What could they possibly add at this point? I don't even know what else the game could have that wouldn't be tacked-on features. I'm not saying there aren't any, I just can't think of one.

Wasn't heavily invested in this kickstarter and decided to now check the situation. 5 million?! How the heck did that 2.4mil I last saw balloon like this? The thirst is real.

It's easier to have faith and give money to a developer who has a decades worth of work over an indie dev who only has a pitch video.

And some people want both new and old experiences, especially when those old experiences haven't been done in a long long time with the same level of skill

Inti-C aren't just sitting on ass this entire 30 day campaign either

Really need to figure out which platform I want to put my pledge towards, I figure I can get PC for cheap before it launches (Mighty No. 9 can already be found for cheaper than backer minimum). Feel like PS4 is the obvious choice, but I don't know if I'll actually own one by then, Wii U backed now feels like the choice alongside PC version later, but I feel like it'll run like ass there :/

The thirst is SO real. I wanted my customary 3 Igavanias on 3DS, but Konami went and fucked everything up. Just look at the average pledge amount.

Note that they have now showed video of a game prototype being played in their studio. So, yes at the start of the campaign they didn't have anything beyond concept art, but during the campaign they did show something that resembled "gameplay".

Fortunately you don't have to choose your platform now. You only have to choose physical or digital.
