NAACP Leader Exposed as White Woman in Blackface

She just brought a black guy into a class to ramble about shit while she said that person was her father.

Oof, whatever comes off this she needs help. This seems more delusional than self-identifying.

Yeah, that Tweet reads... real uncomfortable.

I feel there will be more crazy unearthed.

Nah on the mental illness. That goes out the window when she outright made social progress by doing what she was doing. Husband, kids, head of a chapter of the NAACP.

Mental illness comes in many forms, but most of the time it's self-destructive or something to be mitigated. She made a life out of this, climbed social ladders because of this.
As someone referenced one of the few mental disorders to accomplish this are individuals with anti social personality disorder

My first thought lol
Can people identify with another race in the same manner people identify with another sex and set out to change their outward appearance to match how they feel inside? Is that a thing?

No.

Transgender is a mismatch between the brain and body because of the actions of the sex hormones during pregnancy on how the brain develops.

This is something else entirely.

Ummm not really race is a biological contruct. It is SPECIFICALLY a biological trait. If tomorrow all humans lost all ability to think or reason or communicate. Race would still be a characteristic of our bodies.

Gender on the other hand is completely social construct. In that gender refers to how you act, how you feel, how you dress, etc

Transexuals don't actually change their sex. They technically change their gender and sometimes their genitals. Sex (scientifically) refers to the size of the gametes produced by the body. In simple terms females produce large gametes and males produce smaller gametes.

themoreyouknow

Race is a social construct. Black, white, asian, etc. are descriptions of groups not based on science. You're thinking of genetic traits that evolved to survive in certain climates and environments, but have no bearing on what you are (human). People from different regions are more genetically similar to each other than within a group from a single region, so these "differences" between two people from europe and asia are smaller than if you looked at the differences between two people from just europe.

I agree on your second point, except the two gametes are morphologically distinct not only different in size.

I still think she is basically Batman.

She's in a heavily white area and decided to live this life to help out as best she could let. Galvanise people, you could say.

It probably all started in her study when the Fresh Prince of Bel Air suddenly appeared on television. "Yes, father, I shall become a black" she probably said with resolute determination.

/jk

Jesus christ I had the panels in my head.

man, white people always get the "mentally ill" card, but let one of us black people do some off the wall shit, and its like "troubled upbringing...bad neighborhood...rap music influence".

only if you think mental illness somehow absolves guilt. to me when people play the "mental illness" card it means they think the person's behavior is batshit. It is white privilege or something to get called batshit instead of people mentioning "troubled upbringing" or "bad neighborhood"?

Or she caught a rerun of CB4 on TV, and when she hits this part

tumblr_n0cat3h24L1qbtzbno4_r1_250.gif

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida starts to play in her head over and over, and suddenly she turns to her reflection in the window, her pupils dilated, and mutters

"I'm black y'all"

I fail to see the difference between this and being transgender, and, instead of adding nothing to the discussion except "lol ur dumb" or other silly one-liners, I have seen no explanation as to why they are different.

Not feeling comfortable in your body is the same as not feeling comfortable in your body, and instead of aimlessly attacking others for feeling that way, why not take the time to come up with a valid counter-argument?

It amazes me the lengths that people will go to today in order to deny people. Are you mad that she did not tell anyone? Do you also think that transgender people should have to tell everyone that they were once physically a different gender?

It's depressing that instead of having compassion and trying to understand what she went through, we have people here implying that she has a mental defect. Even if you think this is "wrong", there is something going on inside of this woman that we do not understand.

Like yo, can we get a poverty disease maybe? Post-Poor/Uneducated/Neglected-As-Fuck Disorder?

Do you think I don't also defend poor, uneducated black people? Do you believe black people cannot also be mentally ill?

stop, because there have been more then a few comments made about why this is different then transgender. There is no such thing as trans ethic or trans racial what ever the fuck that means.

The sex hormones affect how the brain develops during pregnancy, you can have a mismatch with the body.

You can't have a brain of a different ethnicity, the concept is ridiculous.

Stop with these comparisons, they are profoundly ignorant and I imagine insulting.

I believe the argument boils down to "Transgender has a biological basis, transracial doesn't." Make sense?

No, Mia. No. I see this shit has already begun. What an interesting next few weeks we have.

Transgender rights are about to suffer a horrific set back if this bullshit catches on. Fantastic. Thanks everyone for adding "legitimacy" to that transphobic New York Times opinion piece.

Not feeling comfortable in your body is the same as not feeling comfortable in your body

No, not really. There are differences in the underlying reasons behind the discomfort, and they've been highlighted in this thread multiple times. Basically, it boils down to the fact that sex/gender issues are biological in nature. Racial issues are societal.

Maybe Rachel Dolezal had good intentions behind her fraudulence. Maybe it was coming from a very sympathetic/empathetic place due to recognizing the societal disparities that racial prejudice provides. But it's still fraudulence. It's dishonesty for ultimately selfish purposes, as opposed to honest bravery in an attempt to be as true to one's *real* self as possible. Caitlyn's embracing the biological truth of herself. Rachel's denying it, and substituting an entire culture's struggle in its place because it's more aesthetically pleasing to her. And that's why the comparison fails.

Gender has somewhat large mental differences between the 2 sexes, mostly related to sexuality, but there are inherent mental differences between men and women. In fact, we know this because we can do CT Scans and stuff like that to show this. Trans people exhibit the same brainwave signals as the gender they want to identify as. Thus there is a scientific backing to why trans people exist, and how they are stuck in the wrong body.

In this case, race is a social construct designed to seperate people from different locations based off of specific physiological differences. You cannot be born into the wrong skin color because there is no mental differences between the two races in this case. The only way it would be possible is if there is something inherent in our brain that makes us white or black, and that's an incredibly slippery slope to go down

stop, because there have been more then a few comments mad about why this is different then transgender. There is no such thing as trans ethic or trans racial wtf the fact that means.

Racial transformation has been a thing for a very long time. You can't say that there aren't a LOT of people out there who seek to become a new race or assimilate among a specific race.

I mean, they've been having political cartoons about black people trying to whiten their skin to blend into white society since the 1800s.
220px-A_black_man_buying_some_of_J._Morison's_pills,_hoping_they_will_make_him_white._Wellcome_V0011130.jpg

Even an actor like Jackie Chan had plastic surgery on his eyes to make them "more western" because he believed that would make him more attractive to western viewers if his eyes were less traditionally Asian.

There are definitely some crazy parts of this case, but, outside of one crazy woman, even I know people who wanted to be a different race. I had a former roommate who identified himself as "black" and wanted to be a rapper, even though his African ancestry was less than 5% compared to everything else.

People are focusing on her, exclusively, but I know individuals first-hand that did the same thing.

It's already caught on, it's fuelling the ignorance on the issue that already existed.

To see transethnic actually debated seriously on GAF is mindblowing.

So, has no one referenced the South Park episode yet?

It's almost the same argument:
Transgender (Mr/s Garrison) makes everyone think they can be anything they want (Kyle/black, Gerald/Dolphin)

You see the reason why they did these things? its because of racism. This is not because of racism. An you're former roommate is a werido you don't NEED to be black to be a rapper that just is warped thinking.

I believe the argument boils down to "Transgender has a biological basis, transracial doesn't." Make sense?

Why's this even morally relevant, though? Like, this is relatively new science. The first CT scan of transgender individuals focusing on transgender causality wasn't until 1995, iirc, and you don't start getting firm conclusions until the early 2000s. Suppose this wasn't the case, and being transgender was as a result of social conditioning or just a particular mental pattern that could develop. Would you stop supporting transgender people if this was the case? I'd strongly hope your answer would be "of course not". The support is because they are people who are uncomfortable with their body and want a way to change that; the cause doesn't seem relevant.

Just reading about this. Mind explosion.

I cannot stop laughing in my brain. I wonder what my former African American history professor thinks about this....

Can't she just say she identifies as a black person and wants to keep it that way?

And then if anyone bitches about it, it makes them intolerant.

.

Then you didn't read my earlier post on page 29.

nstead of repeating that here is some proof in a discussion I started before

Sexuality isn't only penis and vagina btw.
Here's one of the many brain scans that reveal the differences between men and (trans-) women, it's very easy to understand.
BSTc is the Stria Terminalis wich is a part of the brain for anxiety and stress.

The actual thread has worthwhile info to look up on this

I'd be fine with a white person pretending to be a black dude irl with this type of stuff. But he better make that clear when he's running for the president of the NAACP, and wearing tribal clothes, and teaching an african history class.

This is a lady who essentially festishized a culture that wasnt her own and made herself something she wasn't. Sure I could be friends with her, but like I said, when you're doing shit like she's doing, then you should be upfront about that stuff

but this is all irrelevant because it's not the case.

Was your roommate in this group?

I didn't say I supported either side, just that's what the argument is. I think in this particular issue people are taking the non-biological origins of this woman's behavior to signify. choice

This topic had me literally laughing out loud... but the more you think about it, the more sad and embarrassing it gets.

I was confused as well, but apparently there's a biological component to being transgender that doesn't exist for racial identity. That's a pretty suitable explanation for the differences to me, though I agree that it'd be nice if more people had just explained that instead of responding to people confused about these issues with pages of hostility before offering an explanation.

To be fair to him, the underlying reasons really haven't been "highlighted in this thread multiple times." until the last page or two. I posted similar confusion sever pages ago (even highlighting how I am ignorant of trans issues and wanted to know more) and it took like 3 pages and several direct responses of hostility before such an explanation was offered.

And no one in here is saying it's wrong for someone to associate themselves within a culture. No one in here saying that Eminem is a terrible person because he's white and participating in a largely "black" culture.

It would be a problem if he told everyone he was black, put on some skin tan, ran for the head of the NAACP, wore tribal clothing, taught a black history course... etc, etc.

Every single time it has been brought up in any thread there has been this response. Im not trying to imply that you read everything or say you were wrong, but it's not like people havent been responding or the information isnt there.

Ignorance isn't a bad thing, but getting upset when people call out your ignorance is a bad thing

When did making fun of the situation become hostile.

This is completely different from the woman's situation, what you are trying to describe its a by product of a white-oriented society that constantly represents them as different, are less likely to hire them, are more likely to be put in jail, etc. This leads to internalized racism, which is what causes this. Now im not saying white people dont suffer from this, but when it comes to their skin color theirs its already deemed "normal", so its represented in other forms like anorexia.

You must see what I mean when I say it's difficult to be upfront about it though, right? Like, supposing she was sane (becoming very rapidly evident she isn't), she'd still have been an object of complete ridicule for opening up to it.

I had a whole list of joke posts I wanted to applaud but I have to be serious again.

The state of being transgender or transsexual is biological. There have been studies on brain scans that clearly show people with biological male or female bodies have brains that are more similar to the opposite sex. They aren't pretending anything.

The reason all of these criticisms come up about some of these negative comments sound like the same douchbags who cry about transgendered individuals is due to the fact in both cases the people believe the subject is pretending.

So let's stop acting as if trans people are making shit up.

Im not saying they are making anything up
But saying race is a social construct is crazy, and at the very least race is definitely more of a biological trait, than gender identity.
