Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

Oh by the way, so some of you stop chatting, I was willing to make an exception and backed this and yooka laylee. So stop all your "YOURE OPINION DOESNT MATTER CUS U NO BACK!!" cause seriously, even if I didnt decide to back it, I should still be able to share my opinion without getting flamed. Especially about the boss thing cause if it was any other game some of you wouldve called foul as well

I slept on it and decided not to, but I do appreciate it exists. I figured that for what it is (6"x9", ~50 pages), I wouldn't pay 25 bucks for it if I saw it at a book store. Maybe 9.99, but not 25.
I've been very indecisive on this matter. Is this information just speculation? I've never heard of any specifics on it.

Edit:

I do not completely agree with you, mostly restricting it to the $60 is the weird part, other than that I think backers deserve some kind of exclusive part. Preferably as DLC later, locking content forever always sucks. In any case, I did think it was little too hostile to basically declare you to be simply trolling. Lots of people did similarly when people expressed concerns on the extra platform stretch goals, and that too I thought was unfair to characterize people with concerns or controversial opinions as trolls.

I've been putting off backing it because of a certain unease I feel with it, especially after MN09. Now I find myself with 3 hours left trying to decide.

I just look at it -- And I don't like it. I don't mean that I don't like Igarashi's games, I do, but I don't like what I see in terms of the Kickstarter. It's a big game show. It's so sliced up with gizmos and bonuses and gifts and stretch goals -- It's so parsed out. Something about this level of exploitation makes me uncomfortable.

But.. I love Igarashi's Castlevania games. (I just recently started playing Portrait of Ruin again in bed every night.) That's the conflict.

Exploitation? They're making the most of the platform (Kickstarter) in ways no other campaign has done so far, yes. Was there something in the campaign that was somehow against the ToS or against the spirit of KS?

It was sliced up to give us new goals to constantly be excited to reach. Until they're pulling what Inafune did, where they did ANOTHER campaign for some side thing without MN9 even being out, I can't see what could possibly be interpreted as "exploitative".

As for it being a "show", well what's wrong with that? They're entertaining the backers while pushing for more pledges. I consider this preferable to Kickstarters where the initial campaign video is amazing, but then we really don't get anything from the people running it beyond stretch goals being marked off the stretch goal chart for 30 days.

I don't see how pulling up a professional-looking project is "exploitation"?

Ok let's look for a david hayter japanese counter part right now..

( as long as it's the same amount of voice as before i'll be ok with it , BTW )

I said something about this whole process makes ME uncomfortable, and I'm not entirely sure why. I feel like the need for a Kickstarter was the reason Bloodstained exists, rather than the need for Bloodstained leading to the Kickstarter existing. Since it's Comcept again, after how horrible M09 came out, I'm just.. Hesitant.

They're exploiting, to the max, all the tricks and gizmos and flashing lights that are typical of Kickstarter, and it's something I'm just a little uincomfortable with, especially when taken to these extremes. Clearly my view isn't shared by all -- But I do feel kind of uneasy about the whole thing. The game should just be the game, not a series of components tacked together by stretch goals. That's not how good game design works.

Ah. Well, I can understand that.

MN09 came out? When?

It's not that it's "not shared by all", it's that you've failed to explain the logic behind why you feel this way. It doesn't make sense.

They are pitching a product to get investors. If the very idea of doing a good job in this objective makes you uncomfortable, then yes, you should stay away of this, and you should stay away of investments in general.

If you don't even understand this very basic fact, you will excuse me if I don't take seriously your knowledge of how "good game design works".

But that's not what the game is going to be. Have you even looked at the stretch goals?
We will get the base game, and the stretch goals are all just a bunch of extra bonus modes and characters to play. The main game is not really influenced by the stretch goals at all (beyond possibly the "biggest castle" one, which might indicate as big a map as they can make).

Kickstarter is our last bastion of hope to see dead IP/GENRE to get resurrected. Yes, everything ain't perfect but if we don't put our hope then our memories of the past will stay memories and never be revived because who would beleive in them if it's not their fans ?

Either you beleive and want put hope in those dreams or not.
And this thread is about carrying that hope and spread it as much as dreamers can.

Not sure if you saw the update, but they clarified somewhat about the biggest castle. Iga says that with that stretch goal reached, the world will be approximately 25% bigger than he had initially planned.

MN09 came out? When?.

I backed MN09 hoping and in part believing I'd be getting the real spiritual successor to mega man -- the next generation of mega man, similar to the transition from NES Mega Man to Mega Man X, which was vital and full of energy.

Instead we get...

It's not out, no, but despite backing it, all of my interest in the game has drained away after having seen it.

Your screenshot isn't really indicative of anything. At all.

Waiting for the game is going to be the hard part... We all know it is going to reach 5.5m goal

Nah. Here's how I do it:

I am busy and focussed on other games that are out, or come out soon, and when the time has come, you suddenly receive that game here and think: HOLY SHIT!

Yeah I missed that. So the only main-game related stretch goal is the bigger map, and I don't see how that is "bad game design".
