Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

I put a solid chunk into MN09, but I didn't have crazy high expectations or anything. I just wanted a pretty good Mega Man-type game with some twists, and so long as I get that I'll be happy.

Though I guess this stands to have a higher disappointment risk potential because it IS something I want to see more of, but then I guess so long as the realistic worst case scenario is hit (it's basically like the DS games but with shinier graphics) I'll still have gotten a reasonably enjoyable game, and if I get something that's more genuinely enjoyable to explore then I'll be very happy.

I said something about this whole process makes ME uncomfortable, and I'm not entirely sure why. I feel like the need for a Kickstarter was the reason Bloodstained exists, rather than the need for Bloodstained leading to the Kickstarter existing. Since it's Comcept again, after how horrible M09 came out, I'm just.. Hesitant.

They're exploiting, to the max, all the tricks and gizmos and flashing lights that are typical of Kickstarter, and it's something I'm just a little uincomfortable with, especially when taken to these extremes. Clearly my view isn't shared by all -- But I do feel kind of uneasy about the whole thing. The game should just be the game, not a series of components tacked together by stretch goals. That's not how good game design works.
if you feel uncomfortable with the kickstarter then you shouldn't back it. It's as simple as that. The game with come out in 2 years and we'll all know then if it was all worth it.

I'm feeling really happy i backed at the $300 tier.
Killed all my money though, which is why i can't give anything to lord Gaben.

Akio Otsuka.
First thought from me as well. Though, they should actually just audition the character out, I like Hayter, but I do wish they hadn't chosen him as Gebel. He can probably do a good job, but it certainly is one the most "backer bait" things in this. That they clearly announced him and Robert Belgrade, but not Johannes' or even freaking Miriam's VAs is pretty strange IMO, and kind of proves they simply chose those two for reasons other than "they are the best for the role".

Hayter obviously was more of this kind of "bait" stretch goal than Belgrade, because Belgrade was announced much later, was not a stretch goal, and would only pull in some small amount of SotN fans who had somehow not yet backed the project, unlike how Hayter could pull in any people feeling like saying "fuck Konami".

I just hope they get someone relatively unheard of for the rest of the actors. It would not really fit for someone well known to voice Miriam imo. Jennifer Hale and Laura Bailey are like the woman equivalenta of Nolan North and Troy Baker, so I hope they at least don't choose them. Basically, I really hope they put a lot of effort into casting her. Johannes too of course.

I didn't say it was dishonest, I said something about it is making me uncomfortable, especially with Comcept involved.

Comcept is not involved at all in this game's development. The developers are Inti Creates, and Playism is also involved with the localization.

I'm planning on up-pledging to $300 too, after the Kickstarter ends and I can find my way clear. This game is too special not to.

Sorry, I meant to say Inti Creates.

Inti Creates have proven that they can do just fine. Just because MN9 didn't pan out exactly how backers expected does not mean they are incapable of doing good things. Azure Striker Gunvolt is pretty damn good and looks good as well. Not to mention they worked on the MM Zero and ZX series'.

Having a low opinion of them over 1 currently unreleased game is a mistake.

Sorry, I meant to say Inti Creates.

You ARE aware that Inti Creates had NOTHING to do with the creative direction of MN9, yes? That they're pretty much only the pure coders, and do very little if anything in regards to design?

I absolutely HATE that people are disappointed by MN9 and suddenly say Inti Creates are shit because they're working on the programming for that game, and completely ignore Inti's other games.

And since you seem to ignore Inti's entire backlog just because of MN9... do you think Mega Man 9 and 10, the Mega Man Zero series, or Azure Striker Gunvolt are bad games and that this obviously means Bloodstained is gonna be ass as well?

Pretty amazingly run kickstarter campaign. Do you think it can make the final stretch goal?

You make a fair point, and maybe I was a bit unfair to them. I just can't get over how distasteful I find MN09's presentation and it has (perhaps unfairly) made me more hesitant to back Bloodstained. But I might still back it. I'm a big fan of Iga's vanias.

So using outdated PayPal figures we're less than $30,000 away from $5.5m. Damn.

Also, finally backed for $60!

Edit: Looks like I took too long to post lol. So it was hit already, awesome!

Trust me, I get why people would be worried, but I must point out that it is unfair to Inti Creates. They're actually really talented folks. Also helps in this case, because Iga is very passionate about his work, and will be a great coach through the process. He is someone who just understands great design and what gamers want.
