Roy (our boy) & Ryu confirmed for Smash Bros

I can't fathom why people are upset with Ryu's inclusion. He's a popular and recognizable character who's been around for over 25 years, guys.

I'm indifferent on which characters were added (I'm neither mad nor excited), but I have suspicions about whether Ryu and Roy were in fact the top voted characters. Roy seems like a cop-out from Nintendo to me.
Given that it's likely these characters are releasing simultaneously alongside Lucas, production of them would have started way before the ballot even began.

I guess it was either Kazuya or Heihachi.
I have to go with Heihachi. Despite Kazuya being the original protagonist Heihachi is arguably more iconic in Tekken. Plus he's appeared in every Tekken game and I know it doesn't mean much but he was in Playstation All-stars and not Jin or Kazuya.

If your parents would seriously know who Mega Man is they're far from the norm.
I wouldn't even put Mega Man on the Mt. Rushmore of video game characters, I'm just saying more people probably know who he is because he had his own series that was named after him, that literally went on for decades. Ryu, while popular among Street Fighter/fighting game fans, is a part of a large group of characters and one that you technically never even have to use, much less have people outside of fighting game fans expect to know who he is well enough to be the top 4 biggest characters in video game history.
Huh, I thought it represented the faces of a few famous American presidents.
When people say the "Mt. Rushmore of something" they're always referring the most well known/influential people in that group.

If I asked you to come up with a Mt. Rushmore of video game developers I'm sure you wouldn't come back with one of the guys being the guy who created Mighty Bomb Jack.

I can't believe Sakurai didn't consider talking to your parents first.

The actual Mt. Rushmore in terms of people knowing about them would clearly be Mario, Pac-Man, Sonic and Pikachu anyway.
Good point.

Also he was in Soul Calibur 2.

Congrats, and these in the picture, with the unfortunate exception of megaman recently, are the faces of gaming basically as an industry given their history. People saying that Ryu or snake belongs on a "mount rushmore" of videogame characters are out of their goddamn minds.

mascot platformer, mascot platformer, mascot platformer, pac man.

Are there any other video games?

Mt. Rushmore has a "history" thing going on it tho, so saying that pikachu should be in it is like saying they should put Bill Clinton on the actual Mt. Rushmore.

They were leaked roughly a week or two after the ballot went up.

So I think you've picked up on the conspiracy that most of us have already been aware of: Nintendo has time travel and are keeping it for themselves.

Why else would they have released the Wii U, a system basically designed for failure, without specific knowledge that it needs to be released to keep the world from falling apart? It's the only possible explanation.

You misunderstand the ballot. It runs until October. Lucas, Roy and Ryu (and likely some other characters, as well) were already planned, and were likely in development alongside Mewtwo.

In addition, the ballot is not a case of "whoever gets the most votes, wins." It's just a way to gauge interest. If the majority votes for one character and Sakurai thinks that character is shit, Sakurai's vote > all.

No, it'd be like saying Theodore Roosevelt should be on the actual Mt. Rushmoore. Work on Mount Rushmoore started less than two decades after he ended his presidency.
An actual gaming Mt. Rushmore would be Minecraft Guy, the Call of Duty logo, Mario, and Gabe Newell.
Gabe Newel would take too much space. He'd be gaming's Crazy Horse.

They gotta pretend every few years that they don't have the answers to everything.

Yamauchi didn't die, he just went back to the future.

Teddy Roosevelt was president only 16 years before the completion of Mt. Rushmore. Bill Clinton was president 16 years ago today.

It's incredible we have Ryu in Smash Bros yet we are not going to have Street Fighter V on Wii U or any other Capcom upcoming games... When Nintendo teases about unprecedent 3rd party partnership in 2015, they refer to adding 3rd party characters on their games and not bringing actual 3rd party games to their consoles hah.

I don't get it either. If anything I would've expected Ryu to be in the next PSABR. But hey at least there's a huge demand for him in the game.

I wasn't expecting any Street Fighter games on any Nintendo platforms but at least Rayman has more appearances on nintendo's consoles

1) Yay Ryu!
2) Another fucking Marth clone. Wait till Smash 5 where we have Roy, Marth Lucina AND a guy from if who is also a fucking Marth clone.

I can't believe Sakurai didn't consider talking to your parents first.
I mean, your snarky bullshit aside, you're missing my point. I didn't say Ryu didn't deserve to be in the game. I just said he wasn't one of the top four most recognizable characters in video game history.

I guess you got your snarky internet jab in though, so actually looking at what I was trying to say probably wasn't important to you in the first place.

Ryu looks awesome, while Roy looks... yeah. Oh well! I take solace in the fact that the ballot doesn't end until October, since these two characters could potentially be released tomorrow. Fear not, my fellow K. Rool and Isaac fans.

Glad to see Ryu confirmed. Not so much for Roy, another sword fighter.

Swords are cool. It's when they all use the sword in the exact same way with the exact same move set that it gets boring. Oh wait, Roy's sword can sometimes sorta be on fire or explode during an attack. Completely different character.
