ShenMue was an achievement. What has been done hasn't tried to strengthen those bonds because we don't look at grocery stores, living life in the city, and possibly working a job. We get action and whatever is available is just part of the makeup. The absorption into the world isn't as indepth as ShenMue was promising to do. To me, they've looked over that and filled it instead of capturing it again.

it's not, and that could be what this is, but based on what i recall at the time (not sure how definitive this was): sadly, SOA was not happy with the sales of the HD remakes of NiGHTS and Jet Grind, the efforts into Skies of Arcadia & Shenmue HD were shitcanned. god knows if it was even started, but there was talk at least.
