Recore announced (Spring 2016, Armature and Inafune, Xbox One exclusive)

Oh, so just ex Retro staff? Dammit. For a moment I really considered buying a XB1 because I've always been wanting to play a Metroid Prime game without the shackles of cheapskate hardware. Still, will keep an eye on this.

Armature's previous original games haven't been that good and the lack of game play to explain it didn't get me very interested.

Can't say I'm excited.

That and Ms still believes that teams under Nintendo guidance work as well as without it....these guys made prime as good as it is because of Nintendo liderance.

I see this has been updated, but my usual E3 bitching: these threads are not a race; you don't get points for posting first; you can take 10 seconds to do the forum the courtesy of putting some description of the game and platform in the thread title.

Also kinda crazy given how long Armature's been around that this will be their first original (non-port) console project, and only their second original game, period. They had bad luck.

Metroid Prime 4 is actually a Xbox One title. Who would have thought?

Nways, the game's aesthetics are nice, but I don't allow myself the right of being excited for a game until I watch actual gameplay of it.

If it's a Metroid Prime style metroidvania this will be pretty exciting.

And no, this looks nothing like Knack

In case anyone is wondering, since it's Armature it's most likely using Unreal Engine 4 as they are already working with it on Bloodstained and they seem to have been using it for a while now. I've also heard some hints towards it somewhere, just can't remember the source anymore.

Inafune's overrated and he made some terrible game creation decisions (like Yaiba and Lost Planet 3. He also caused the dissolution of Clover, apparently. You did it, Inafune.) but I'm interested in Armature.

In what world is this Metroid Prime 4 in any way?

Hype deflated when I heard Armature Studios. That Batman Blackgate game they made was trash.

The studio has definitely spent its existence coasting on the brand identity of "We used to be at Retro," and from how Microsoft name-dropped Metroid Prime in the trailer, they realize it as well. I'd like to see them pull off something great, but it's anyone's guess how central they are to the design side of this project (or if Comcept just has them doing engine work or cranking out assets); we don't have any indication yet of what genre it's in or how it plays.

i wonder if it'll have elements of the unreleased Maverick Hunter.

One must wonder. It did seem like what we saw had a lot of the fundamentals nailed down already and could work outside of a vertical slice just fine.

Pacini and co. definitely have a lot to prove on this. They're a very talented porting studio, but their one released original title hasn't done much to inspire confidence.

Looks interesting but was anyone else disappointed when the girl pulled out a gun and started shooting? I was kind of hoping it wouldn't be a shooter. Though maybe shooting isn't a focus.

Do we know anything about those guys who left Retro? Were they among the lead designers or whatever of the MP Trilogy, or were they just some of the people working there?

The head of the studio is Mark Pacini, who was the lead game designer on all three games. He also brought some senior staff with him, but it wasn't some big Infinity Ward-style exodus.

FWIW, though, Retro is said to have an excellent corporate culture that fills in holes quite well. Bluepoint was founded by the lead engine designer for the first two games, and they still managed to pull of some rather remarkable stuff since his departure.
