This is all very doable with AR. The problem with AR without wearables is that you have to constantly look through the window of your phone or tablet's camera. With stuff like the HoloLens or Google Glass, you just have to look at the AR target. I think the biggest hurdle will be lighting.

Also I thought MS was only going to go for an hour and a half, but this is hitting 2 hours.
 
Not gonna lie, HoloLens as presented looks pretty cool. Definite potential for something like that in regards to games. Could be a next generation of strategy, simulation (god games) or even D&D DM-style RPGs.

I'm not holding my breath that it'll work as advertised, though. Wait & see.
