Final Fantasy 7 Remake Announced (First on PS4)

I do believe that SE got Sony's backing on this one. They mentioned long ago that it would cost a lot and a risky business move to remake this.

From the sounds of it the most likely scenario is Sony + SE financing...

SE co-developing with CC2 (and maybe others later on). Split the costs, huge team...full steam ahead because you know they'd want a 2017, 20th Anniversary release. They could ride the fanboy train three years in a row. KH HD PS4/Xbox One this year (1080p, 60fps, that jazz), FFXV next winter-ish, FFVIIR year after and KH3 in 2018.

Then everyone goes back to hating them again if Toriyama gets XVI over Ito.

Something to keep in mind: just because Kagari knew it was a thing that'd eventually exist a year ago doesn't mean it was in production back then. When she said production started "a few months ago" (I think it was her, anyway? Hard to keep up with this thread) that's not a contradiction or anything.

Verendus said work had started on this back in 2013.
Now, that could have simply been pre-production/planning (likely), but between his posts and Kagari's, it seems clear this isn't just some knee-jerk reaction to Hashimoto being given a million stink-eyes back at PSX. :p

Kagari confirmed it was in the works before PSX. She said she knew for a year.

that's good to hear.
beyond that though they do have their advent children models to play with, this doesn't look that different from advent children (which is now 10 years old lol)

It'd be interesting to see how much repurposing of advent children models there is in the trailer (if any)

I swear the only thing that is missing is half life 3 and agent.

Nobody cares about agent anymore, but if half life 3 gets announced we will have nothing to expect from future E3s

That trailer was so hype. When Barret's gattling gun arm came into view I lost my composure and then some. The original is my favourite game, and Barret is pretty much the best character in it.

I know! I just started playing and it's awesome!

This is just my way of suggesting people may want to temper their expectations.

Don't worry you had the best post in this thread, haha. I'm super excited for the remake but goddamn can I not shake the feeling I'm just gonna be disappointed again.

Think we'll get any of the original ideas that got left out of the cutting room floor?

I really want Indigo and Cobalt in this game now.

Am I weird to hope this is a
Rebuild of Evangelion
style remake, where you think its a remake until you realize it is not?

Maybe this is just wishful thinking on my part.

Please don't kill Aeris this time =(

Pretty excited about this. Since no gameplay was shown, I guess it's still in very early development. 2017/18 release maybe? Hopefully gameplay will be turn-based. Either way, count me in. :)

If they don't kill Aerith I'm going to be super disappointed, despite it being sad that's a really important part of the plot and part of what made FFVII so memorable.

she has to die dude so Cloud can get pissed and fight Sephiroth

Square have made a lot of questionable things in the last decade or so but they at least have a basic framework to work with in a remake. The story and sequence of events is already there, as well as things like the materia system and minigames/side activities if they just want to keep the same ones but maybe expand on them.

I won't rule out that they will fuck it up and it also depends on how much they want to change, but there is hope that they might actually pull this off.

Maybe.

I'm surprised some people think this might still be turned-based. Nomura is directing so there's no doubt it will have action-oriented combat

to be fair it was never turn based >.> (it was active turn battles) but I know what you and others are saying.

Personally I don't think it matters to me to much whether the combat is true to the original or redone (just don't make it like ff13 as I detest that combat). They must not scrap the materia system though (if they want to expand upon it they can but I need slots on my weapons, and those slots must take orbs that level up over time and eventually split into two when you are awesome enough)

It looks like the character designs are going to get a modern facelift. Barret's gun was the key point here.

I hope that means they're a bit more sensible with Tifa. I would love something around Lara Croft Reboot in terms of design: still very pretty, not overly sexy.

I sat next to someone who said "Oh no she still needs to have huge tits." I really hope Square doesn't share this sentiment.
I don't know how to respond to this correctly, but I want proportions to remain exactly the same. No LC redesign necessary. Barret needs to have his metal girdle, Tifa keeps her suspenders and short shorts. Post-game AC garb for NG+ would be acceptable but lets not change what works here.

just make sure Aerith still dies

Yup.
It was one of the greatest moments in gaming, and before "trolling" was invented.
All those wasted time you leveled her up...

And the people who said that Aerith shouldn't die are sick bastards.
You don't want her to reunite with her truly beloved Zack in the lifestream?
Sick sick sick monsters.

None of it really works in the new art style though. The "realistic" models in FF7 were still stylized with cartoony proportions (think of the bulbous Barrett for example). They're going to be re-imagined out of necessity.

Seriously, that CG trailer was on point. Square with yet another massive troll and then the FF7 bomb is dropped. Loved how the music dropped ominously on Kitase, Nojima and Nomura's names.

Well her original model/outfit is already in the advent children movie for a couple seconds.

so... I wonder if square will be willing to go Mature with the rating for this one.

I mean the majority of fans are old enough to buy mature games now... and a number of the themes work better if you can leave them dark and creepy. (mostly the jenova stuff)

I suppose you could just push the line of teen and still make it (as you don't want to make the major death scene to bloody/violent but it would be nice if there was a bleed out)

I also wonder how much new content will be added to the game, and how much removed. I have to imagine a number of the mini games will be gone or drastically changed.

It will be awesome if you can still go on a date with barret thought

I don't think I will be able to sleep anymore

I think the trailer is "warning" people that it's going be more along the lines of REmake

"The reunion at hand may bring joy
It may bring fear
But let us embrace whatever it brings

For they are coming back"

Kinda wanted a "Link Between Worlds" Style sequel .... something NEW, you know ? =/

But if they cut some of the more cringe stuff (like don corneo quest) and change some other stuff I guess it could work

I'd totally take AC costumes as a NG+ or just unlockable sorta thing. I quite liked some of them but from the tiny glimpse we've got Barret and Cloud are pretty like their og designs so...

Cait Sith sticks out like a sore thumb but the rest look pretty normal, I don't think any of their outfits need to be reimagined

i was asleep during this conference so only saw the CG trailer - did they show any screenshots of what it will look like? did they announce any changes to gameplay or random battles or anything or will it be essentially the same?

Think they'll take inspiration from XIV for Chocobo Racing? The OG Choco Racing game was shit.

Edit: It did have the cool guy on the black chocobo though.

The non-active party members get sufficient experience to keep up. It really doesn't matter who you level in FF7.
Only if you haven't recruited that specific member.

If you're level 50 and you recruit Vincent, he's around 50. If you recruit him at 50, and then start leveling other characters, Vincent will stay at 50.

Genesis likely won't have a heavy influence due to the fact that his heavy involvement in Crisis Core was due to Imaizumi.

That still leaves problems like all the shit nojima and nomura did with Advent Children, but at least there won't be genesis.
