Home stretch! Can this Kickstarter break records?

I am so fucking hyped for this! Can't believe it's actually happening!! I have literally never been as excited for a game!! The FF7 remake announcement is merely an afterthought at this point (despite the original being in my all time top 3).

Do people think EU backers will receive a EU digital copy despite the kickstarter being in dollars?

I'm puzzled by the fairly low digital price. I don't think Shenmue 3 will be a long game. I also expect an episodic release in the vein of life is Strange, walking dead etc.

I am somewhat disappointed it won't span across 4/6 episodes.
I think having the series end in a single game now somehow takes away from the epicness of Ryo's journey.
Such a long wait and seeing the end of the story in a single title..hmm..

I don't think they explicitly said anywhere that this was the last in the series. Instead, they speak of "unfolding the continuous story", and "the continuation for Shenmue II".

it's crowtime

Edit: removed posts screencaps, but it was all intended in good sport

Oh, i thought i heard/read it would be the final chapter.

This should be in OP, after all. I mean, it REALLY seems that Sony isn't directly involved, otherwise they'd have denied from the start supplementary platforms.

Well fuck.

Still pledged $300. I want my physical copy for the PS4.

Kickstarter is very often cheaper than release price. Backed Bard's Tale 4 for 20$ ... release price will be 40$.
So maybe in 2017 Shenmue 3 will bei 49$ on PSN.

While I'm skeptical of the finished product being very long as well, I think they're technically making more from each digital copy now than they would from a traditional physical release, or at the very least just as much.

Are there plans for the HD versions of Shenmue 1 & 2?
The property rights for Shenmue 1 and Shenmue 2 belong to SEGA, so we are not in a position to comment on that.

I want a stretch goal for remakes of these, after all SEGA wouldn't say no to this if it would reach 5 mil.+, no?

Let me see if I have this straight: Baisha Village is the $4 million stretch goal. And I guess it will be home to 5 new mini-games? And then Choubu and Bailu are further stretch goals that have yet to be announced?

I think this image is important. I believe $2million goal would give us the barebone Shenmue III game, but if we want the full meat that know Shenmue for and more madness from investors, we need to pledge more. Ideally, this game need to reach $15 million minimum. Right now, the trend of the funding is on route to $29 million.

Let me just first say that I played Shenmue on my Dreamcast back in the days..

But I'm still concerned by the relatively low 2 mill goal for a project like this.. it's 2015, and it's going to take a lot more than 2 mill do create a detailed world grand enough this gen taking into consideration how detailed Shenmue was relative to it's time.

I can't believe that this is actually happening. A bit disappointed that I can't pick up a physical copy for PS4, but I'm definitely going in for at least $100. Can't believe it's been thirteen years since this series left me hanging. I was 9!

If a $2,000,000 kickstarter is funded under 24 hours you got to wonder whether it really needed a kickstarter.

If I went to investors seeking money to make a sequel to a financially disappointing Dreamcast game made 14 years ago, I wouldn't be offended if they wanted some kind of evidence tangible demand existed

Hard to say, I'm hoping for $3 million or more. There will be a renewed flurry of donations at the end.

This pace is amazing but unsustainable, things will slow down once $2 million is reached.

We'll have 3 million by the end of the first day, I think. It's been exactly 8 hours now.

So, i spammed CTRL + F for 64 pages and i found nothing,
According to the most recent statement Shenmue I cost 47M, but are thare any official number regarding Shenmue II? Thanks

Never kickstarted something before, and my wife is working nightshift tonight and took my credit card with her.

Quick question. Can I pledge my $29 after the $2m goal has been met? Judging by the speed the funding is going at, it's going to be met soon, so I want to know if I can still pledge tomorrow or should I get her to email me the details now?

Lol 29 million. But please don't screen cap it, these things didn't end well lately.

Come on SEGA. Do the right thing for once.

Hopefully after seeing the interest in this they can have one of their smaller teams start work on the Shenmue HD re-releases intime for the December 2017 (probably later than that) Shenmue 3 release. Who is ready for E3 next year? :p

I'm gojng to be the killjoy in some aspects and say I hope you all do realize 2 mill is nothing right ? It has to be a token gesture sony is probably matching it 5 fold and sega too etc and another 20 for marketing ... I think we've already had articles about how 2 mill is nothing for Deving games .... Some most have already realized this . And recognize this for what it is ...

1) at best a show your support
2) a post e3 publicity stunt . Seriously do any of you guys think 2 or 3 or 10 mill is anywhere close to the budget they need ? Wasn't shenmue 60 mil in the friggin dreamast era ... The contributions don't matter sony is funding this anyway the contributions are at best 10% but they help market shenmue more and that's the eventual goal

Agreed, 2 million won't cover hardly any of the development process of Shenmue 3 what it is doing however is allow Ys Net to become a company worth investing it. Sony or Sega will probably be investing large amounts of money in the background to make this happen.

Also Shenmue 3 isn't going to be large or as ambitious as Shenmue was back in the day it will probably be a true sequel to Shenmue 2 which is a much smaller project compared to Shenmue 2 14 years ago. I'm sure the team is going to be 50-100 developers top which is tiny compared to the man power needed for modern RPG's.

Using Unreal will make it a lot quicker to develop believable worlds, TOD, Seasons and all that fancy stuff but I don't expect the environments to have the massive scale seen in modern RPGs or the depth/interactivity with NPCs. One thing it certainly won't have will be good English writing/acting compared to modern Western RPGs.

I still think it is going to be glorious though and I can't wait to complete Ryo's adventure :D Maybe if Shenmue 3 is super successful then it will open a lot of opportunities to create Shenmue 4 and beyond with a large payroll/team behind it.

i just woke up ...

and it wasn't a dream !

it wasn't a dream

WAOUH !!!

Hahaha! I felt the same, especially after waking up at 2am to watch the conference then going back to bed, getting to sleep wasn't easy my body can't handle so much HYPE!

No need to rush, you can still pledge after the goal has been met.

I'm glad Shenmue exists but question is, why didn't Sony fund this completely in the first place. I don't like that, I think it stinks.

Yeah, you can.

I want to make a GAF topic when it hits its achieved goal in less than 9 hours about shattering Kickstarter records.

E3 time is busy, can't decide if this is a good or bad idea.
