SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

This is a weird misconception to me. It often isn't shown just what kind of other investment other investors put into some games. Particularly here, outside of YsNet and Yu Suzuki himself, there is another sponsor listed and there has been no disclosure of the amounts involved. On top of that it is common for other deals with investors to be made that are provided should the kickstarter succeed. There is more than $2 million going into this game obviously

Can't they all just work for free? :D

Imagine if it continues at the pace it's currently out for the next 31 days,

Currently it's nearing 2,100,000.

Kickstarters generally start big, slow down in the middle, and then spike back up again at the end, though this can depend on if there's still stretch goals to hit all the way through the end of the campaign. Bloodstained's funding per day is almost symmetrical, as an example: http://www.kicktraq.com/projects/iga/bloodstained-ritual-of-the-night/#chart-daily

Pretty sure they will also fund it. Especially since it's PS4/PC exclusive.

They may have paid for the console exclusivity but they are not helping fund it in a meaningful way, otherwise they would have been listed with the current sponsors at then end of the trailer. There likely won't be any info on other investors that commit upon the success of the kickstarter, which is typical

Given the type of game Shenmue is I thought it would need at least a budget of 30mil.

I'm pretty sure either Sony or someone else is involved with at least 20mil and this Kickstarter was just to make sure that there is really strong demand and not a just a small vocal minority.

You $30 peasants are gonna feel real sore when us $100+ royalty are playing that trial version.

If I could've I would've but sadly I'm between jobs but I did add a few dollars on top of the $29 for my digital PS4 release. I would be hanging my head in shame if I didn't back it after being in the SDF for 8yrs.

Disgusting look how much enthusiasm their showing for a video game they should be more like the Giant Bomb guys who don't give a shit about anything because their keeping it real or something.
Sad that GB fans are saying that lol

I tried watching the Giant Bomb stream. I hate to say it but they were horrible. It's like they didn't even want to be there at all. No enthusiasm whatsoever. They just looked like a bunch of old dudes, disgusted by what they were seeing.

I would like some disclosure on the funding at some point, not sure if it will come before the end of the campaign or not, but right now I'm just too busy feeling the hype and trying to win a Super Sonic at the Tomato Store.

I wasn't excited with the announcement. I think because it doesn't look mind blowing like what the first game shown on the Saturn/Dreamcast.

$2 mil seems like a low minimum as well.

I'm guessing Sony's also involved on the funding.

Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of the kickstarter?

Or maybe Sony tied their support to the success of this kickstarter. Meaning only now that it's backed will they also become a sponsor.

No. Kickstarter's can be used for publicity, gauging interest, and building additional funds. Just because it's on Kickstarter doesn't mean Sony (or someone else) isn't helping fund it. Let's be real here, Shenmue 3 isn't being made for only $2mil. Someone has to be helping on the costs, and because it showed up at Sony's conference, we can assume it's probably them.

Really bummed that there's no PS4 physical copy as an option. I guess I'll wait until the game gets released.

Or you could fund it now, which will cost less than your dgital version when released, PLUS, you're helping reach that 2nd and 3rd area funding needed. Three locales will be awesome, remember how big Shenmue 2 was.

Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of the kickstarter?
No. Investors may want to see some fan demand via crowdfunding (say ~10% of the total budget) before they release their funds.

2m as a crowdfunding threshold, given Suzuki's ambitions for Shenmue, seems appropriate.

Agreed, but there are two aspects to that:

1) Shenmue was the flagship title on its own dedicated console. In this new environment and 14 years later we're simply not gonna be getting Naughty Dog-level graphical wow.

2) It seems pretty clear that the "footage" seen is just cobbled-together as a placeholder. Once they actually start working on the thing proper things will start looking more impressive.

Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of the kickstarter?

Not really. As others have said it shows a good gauge of interest to put investors at ease.

Shenmue 3 is an incredibly risky venture from a corporate standpoint given the costs and sells of the previous entries in the series. A kickstarter campaign not only shows fan interest but takes some of the financial load off would-be investors and publishers who will end up committing their funds for production.

If Sony is going to co-publish it would be a smart move on their end.

I can't get over the fact that it's the second fastest kickstarter to make a million EVER including non games. That's insane! Wouldn't be surprised if Shenmue ends up with more fans this time around than originally just cause of it's enormous legacy. Hope so.

So... maybe, saying that this Kickstarter will reach $10 million is being conservative, given how much money it managed to accumulate. Although I'm not sure if it'll have the same rhythm as Bloodstained if they don't do an engaging campaign like Igarashi and his crew did.

I was never a Shenmue fan because I never played the games before but that music was divine. I really like the aesthetic as well (setting, character design). First kickstarter I'm going to back. Guess I am one now. Hope we get a recap to the previous ones though.

I know I can search about this on google but I'd rather hear it from a fan.

I have never played Shenmue nor seen gameplay videos. What's all this about? Is it an rpg, action adventure, survival horror? What's so special about this series? Are they long games or short games?

Do yourself a favor
Get the OST for both games.
Your ears will thank me.
