Man, you are seeing the final result of going the WRONG FUCKING WAY from Super Mario RPG. Paper Mario 64 was still awesome. Then the next one (Thousand Door I think?) was pretty good. But they have gone progressively worse.

I wish they kept it more like SMRPG. Just fan service + an RPG system. That's all you need to do.

At least Mario Tennis is nice on paper, but seriously disappointing so far for me, especially in terms of handling some of the franchises I had hopes for. Mario & Luigi, Metroid and Zelda on 3DS all fell really flat on execution and neither the platform helps for me.
