Iwata tweets about the Digital Event reactions.

You know the lineup itself wouldn't be that bad if Nintendo had third party support. I mean the quantity of exclusives is up there with Sony and Microsoft but the third party support is nill.
The exclusives are not even close. Nintendo led exclusives for a good 2 years but it is now falling off a cliff. 3rd party support is a problem but not the biggest problem.

Has NoA even announced any more digital Wii games since the initial 3 in January? That would have been one way to add something to the conference with relatively low resource cost.

Someone ask Iwata what model this is.

The amount of people saying this is the end for the wiiu or Zelda is moving to NX is astounding. Almost every Nintendo internal team put a game out in the last year, how the hell were they supposed to have another game ready for e3? it has nothing to do with NX, to which we do not even know if it is definitively if it is a wiiu replacement. And the people saying Zelda is for NX considering that they won't show it til around e3 next year and won't most likely launch til holiday 2017 I find it hard to believe they would delay Zelda 2 years. Christ, I'm not saying this conference is amazing or apologizing for Nintendo I'm just asking people to use their brains but I know it's the internet do I can't expect much.

I would say that this conference is a clue that the NX is coming sooner than 2017.

they will win everybodys hearts back next year with a new console and more zelda

They will sooner or later. Having a good or bad E3 is mostly about fortunate coincidences. Once they'll have 2/3 of the big three (Mario, Zelda and Metroid or whatever you consider the big three) to announce or showcase, everyone will be in awe again. It's silly.

Enjoy the salt as it's fresh.

Man that's heartbreaking. :(

But, had it been a live event, they very well could've been boo'd out of the building. It was a very, very poor showing from Nintendo, especially in the face of what MS and Sony did yesterday.

Hyperbole much? If EA wasn't booed with the Pele circlejerk nobody will be booed at an E3 conference.

Besides the Metroid and Animal Crossing things, what all are people pissed about? Or is that it?
I mean, those two (especially AC) are incredibly disappointing, and nothing interesting was shown that wasn't also at last E3. When it wasn't frustrating it was a snooze fest.

People are totally overreacting to Nintendo's conference lol. They don't have much right now. I'm not sure what there is to learn from.

Wish I could go back in time and shake everyone and point to what sticking with carts in the 64 era would mean. I mean, this is how this plays out. It all starts there.

:(

Nintendo's ignorance would have caught up with them sooner or later, regardless of this single decision.

Yamauchi Hiroshi, former president of NCL, was ignorant and stubborn about everything, which made the company as successful as it became as much as it un-did it. Remarkably, this has happened twice in its history. Though the company and its management has become a lot better, Yamauchi's negative influence still dominates Nintendo's decision making processes and it doesn't seem like they'll ever be able to shake it off.

Can't believe so many want to sell their console. I'm loving Splatoon too much for that. That said, it would not be a good time to buy one if the games already on the system don't appeal to you. Mario Maker is the only one that I'm really looking forward to.

After this presentation i can understand why he isn't present during the trade show.

I'd label it Sony and Microsoft fans in the Nintendo thread. Haha. I don't think Nintendo fans really gave a shit.

I'm a Nintendo fan and that pic sums up my thoughts pretty well.

I really wish they'd conduct focus groups before putting out these videos. This disaster was avoidable had the just saved the Smash news for today.

Smash couldn't have saved this. The only things that could have were a Wii U Metroid Prime like 1&2 and a Wii U Paper Mario like Thousand Year Door.

I really feel bad about them being shot down like that. Hopefully, they can wow us more next year, or better yet, make up in the next direct.

I partially think this had to happen (the presentation being light on content). They showed a lot last year, and many of those projects, as well as the ones first shown in 2013, were released in the past 6-7 months. Feels a lot like the majority of their development teams have just wrapped up their last projects or are still supporting recent titles.

People are totally overreacting to Nintendo's conference lol. They don't have much right now. I'm not sure what there is to learn from.

I think a lot of people are just taking an always-welcomed opportunity to kick sand in Nintendo's face during a moment of weakness more than making any kind of reasoned or informed deductions as to where the company is at right now.

It was a mostly crap conference, though, especially when last year's was so good.

Its was a decent format, just sucked content-wise.

Agreed. Format was very entertaining and did a great job presenting the limited/suck content they demo'd. All it needed was a few more games I want to play.

I mean I absolutely loved the Super Mario Maker part with Miyamoto showing their old paper designs. But the game is already 'old news' at this point and im just waiting to get it in my hands at home.

All in all glad to see Iwata acknowledging the disappointment instead or PR speak ignoring.

Pretty much.

As I said in the other thread they need to give some compensation in some form to instil confidence back into the company.

You mean launch games that are good? Cuz if you want more than that I do not think you like games. WiiU has been a great console for me and am happy with what is already announced. Im just surprised thet held back a few updates/announcements that were expected.

Has NoA even announced any more digital Wii games since the initial 3 in January? That would have been one way to add something to the conference with relatively low resource cost.

No, but apparently they found the time to release 2 DS Yoshi games... priorities at Nintendo regarding the VC are wonky right now.

As a Nintendo fan, that Metroid Prime reveal was a kick in the junk, but most fans should have realized that the Wii U is dead and all dev shifted to the NXT.

The exclusives are not even close. Nintendo led exclusives for a good 2 years but it is now falling off a cliff. 3rd party support is a problem but not the biggest problem.

Man, people still pushing that idea even now? They have good exclusives for sure, but people overhyped the hell of that...

I was at work and I've only seen the crappy prime hunters announcement but I take it the rest of the conference went poorly too.

Did xenoblade get a date?

Next year will pretty obviously be all in on the NX.

This was a bit more barren than I thought it would be, but I'm guessing they delayed a few projects to NX that would have otherwise filled in the rest of the year until it came out.

It makes sense too, because why waste more output on two EOL platforms.

Overall I didn't find it very upsetting since I was expecting things to be winding down.

yes, this is the best answer. no Zelda was a dissapointment but they obviously want to unveil a big, brand new 1080p Zelda trailer to hype fans for the NX.
Still they handled it poorly, as a costumer a bit of honesty would be nice, Nintendo hyped this event too much, i understand they literally depend on Wii U sales for the next year but that doesnt excuse them,

I feel like they'll have to gun for a 2016 in order to just generally be in the race of making profits... but 2017 sounds like the most realistic release year honestly.

When 2017 rolls around the next 3D Mario will have been in development for at least four years which is the average time of developing new 3D Mario iterations. Roughly same goes for whatever Retro is developing next and even so they've been said to be able to handle multiple projects which means they've probably had something in the pipeline for even longer. Zelda will, again, probably be not until late in the NX's life. The EAD 2 team that worked on Splatoon will probably have enough time to come out with a solid release window for a sequel.

2017 makes the most sense for the NX since they can maximize the launch window with new games that make it an appealing investment. It also gives Nintendo enough time to mull things over in regards of online accounts, third party relationships, hardware and so forth. They need to take as many notes as possible.

As I've said in the other thread, even 2017 is too soon. The audience they need is the gamers--the people that go out and buy new consoles when they launch. Wii was a fluke, it was Furbies, it was Tickle-Me-Elmo. They didn't realize this, and now Wii U is a failure sales-wise.

Nintendo have a lot of work to do. They need to bring their online up to standard, they need to bring their power up to standard, and they need to open their wallets and get that third party support. They also need to revamp their marketing completely, stop giving systems stupid names, and start being consumer-oriented.

But no matter what they do, releasing NX in 2017 dooms it. It's the middle of the gen, assuming a 5-year cycle the next Xbox and PS5 launch in 2019, meaning NX would be two years behind them tech-wise. So do they lose whatever audience they gained to the actual next-gen hype? Or do they abandon NX after already abandoning Wii U and lose that audience anway?

Releasing early is a short-term solution, not a long-term solution. Long-term, it's lose-lose. Nintendo should dig into their savings and weather this out until the actual next gen starts so that they can be competitive while also having the benefit of having not abandoned their audience twice.

The great thing about Nintendo is that they have there own game briefings periodically through out the year. So at least we won't have to wait until next E3 for more game announcements/ info.

People are totally overreacting to Nintendo's conference lol. They don't have much right now. I'm not sure what there is to learn from.

This is more then a normal overreaction I think. I don't think Iwata has ever commented the way he did before about a negative reaction.
