Seems like Microsoft totally sees the writing on the wall with everything moving to pc in the future, to me.

Well right now it's more like it's convienant enough for them that they can get away with it. Cross-platform play between fighting games isn't really an issue. Hell, SFV is doing it. Racing games also shouldn't be an issue. I'd expect Sunset Overdrive and an original Forza game to make it over next. Gears of War Ultimate on PC is seriously a remastered port of a Vista exclusive port. Where it gets irky is with Halo, they're probably gonna wanna keep that on XBOne

But these consoles definitely aren't going away for a while. The competition between PS4 and XBOne is definitely alive and well and the consoles are still selling.

My main worry is publishers who don't give a damn. Like will Capcom bother to allow Dragon's Dogma to be played? What about games who were owned by defunct companies/publishers and whose rights didn't get picked up? A publisher needing to approve could hold back a lot of games.

They did say that once a publisher approved it would cost them nothing and they wouldn't have to do any work, so I don't see why they wouldn't. Especially for digital stuff. It's like putting your games on a new platform for free.

I'm more worried about all the publishers (including MS apparently, because if it's so seemless why are almost all Microsoft titles missing from the list) saying no because they want to reserve the right to release an HD remaster later.

Also, for example, I REALLY want Project Gotham Racing 4 to get to XB1 but there was a bug where the sound would be fucked up when installing the game to the HDD (the game was released before that option was made available) so who knows how it would work when emulated on the XB1.

that interview actually put some of my worries re: backwards compatibility to rest

if i could make the move with my xbla library, that'd be immensely valuable

seeing how i pretty much categorically rejected the xbo out of principal after the drm stuff went down, i think it's safe to say that spencer has done a more than solid job of earning some of my trust back, at least

That's true...it will be interesting to see how it pans out over the next 12mths for sure.

Depends if it's a "hey, we'll do the work, just ok it". Or if there is actually licensing problems, which I totally expect there to be.

Hearing about the emulation in depth makes me want to retire my 360 and jump on a XO

Dude its a bit magical to me personally. I am a tech freak first but also just the desire to do it. I mean that was a fan request. They had made the system and NOT done it. So to basically here it requested and put all the power behind it and then find out its free and is out and working...is pretty cool.

Are Boyes and Yosp scheduled for any of these days?

Boyes is most likely a lock considering how close he is with Jeff and co. Who knows about Shu.

I think the backwards compatability is fucking awesome, I hope Sony does something similar... the only thing that worries me is that if it is up to the publisher to okay it what is stopping them from just being like "LOL no, we want to resell it down the road"?

All the people coming in bitching about Jeff not having a nerdgasm when Shenmue 3/Final Fantasy 7 remake/TLG were unveiled - this is why he is good at his job. I don't need him jumping up and down to validate my own opinions.

Jeff is tempered in his excitement. If he jumped around like that, I would be wary of the product. I react similarly. His method has a greater impact on me.

Yeah if publishers are busy banging out remakes I doubt they will be so eager to allow emulation. Even for something like CoD.. imagine everyone on the X1 goes back to playing BOPS2. Activision sure as shit doesn't want to see that happen.

Although I guess companies could take the server shutdown route at that point.

It's basically free money for any publisher. I don't see why anyone in their right mind wouldn't allow it.

They reported it was nothing more than being given the ok to adjust the game to run on the new wrapped. Though I don't love the voting system up for the games I assume thats so MS can decide who to contact first. It also means possibly some more game sales.

Again, that only says it's free. You still need a account (even if its a fancy new win10 xbox account) of some kind, so the game's will be tied to said account, so it's gfwl2.

GFWL was also free by the way

Based on the quote tree, you were saying "actually, it probably will [require an xbox live subscription.]" People debunked that.

Do you have a hotmail/outlook account? Do you use an email to sign into windows 8? If yes, you already have an account.

And his reasons were valid as a gamer it wasn't his thing exactly. Many of us felt that way or liked one game but not the other. It seems like if you don't shit yourself your a killjoy.
