Horizon: Zero Dawn Trailer (Guerrilla, post-apocalyptic pre-historic adventure)

Any chance this game is out early to mid 2016 being that it's been in development for around 5 years? I think it's possible but I wouldn't mind this being a fall 2016 game with all the games coming early 2016.

I just want them to take all the time they need. No telling if GG will even finish another game on PS4. I would guess one more in them? Maybe from the second team they have....

i know
im just messing around.

haha alright :D

Just now seeing this game, looks really interesting. Could also easily be a trainwreck, but I'm hoping for something quite good from it.

Possible.

I actually prefer first party releases to be in spring or summer since fall and holiday is all way too packed with third party stuff

But I think Sony needs at least one big holiday title, so it just depends on if God of War or Gran Turismo 7 are ready

dont think so. Early 2016 looks to be Uncharted territory. We are looking at late 2016 I believe. Which actually is perfect. :)

The only thing I don't get is the arrow seems to be an average arrow (i.e wood) and the whole bow and arrow thing against the machinery is quite the juxtaposition I don't like. How can an arrow affect machinery like that? Nothing I've seen of the bow and arrow makes it seem effective vs the machinery that is shown. Otherwise it all looks awesome, I just don't understand the bow and arrow thing, seems quite emphasised to me also. I'm probably just reading into it too much though. It's the very thing that was apparent to me because of how contrasting it is.

She has different types of arrows

End of the arrow is metal, most of the machines' weak points are glass/circuitry, so sharp metal beats wires.

NZgamer have a small preview based on the behind closed doors demo they show. They played the same segment live in front of people.

“This is just a very tiny part of the world,” the art director Jan-Bart van Beek explained, as Muller panned the camera across the machine-populated grassland shown in the press conference. “All of this is freely explorable. You can go anywhere, you can go up the mountains, you can follow the rivers, you can explore all the fields. And it’s not just the natural world. There are tribes as well, even cities.”

She has multiple arrow head/types.

When shooting the 'canisters', she used the normal arrows.

But against the giant one, she used electric arrows & explosive arrows.

Because video games are awesome.

I don't find it surprising that a bow and arrow can really damage anything mechanical. Especially having seen that amazing compound bow she has..

Looks fucking great, but the more I watch the more I wince at the extreme animation meganetism when she powerslides under the mech's belly. Might as well have cut to a QTE the way she just snaps into the right trajectory.

I keep replaying this trailer and every time I notice something new.

The watcher bot is actually a snake inside a tube - look how the tube slides when it's about to sound the alarm:

Imagine a group of them suddenly ejecting from their bodies and chasing you like snakes. Holy shit.

I hate snakes after playing Bloodborne

They are calling it an "open world action RPG". The impression I got from the demo was the focus is very much on the action rather than the RPG. But that may have just been for the purpose of showing off the game.

Yeah loved what they shown
Need more detail for the rpg part.
For now i got more vibes of a game like shadow of mordor than rpg (witcher 3/ fallout) with what we got.

I'm psyched for this game and extremely happy GG is doing something new after 10+ years of Killzone. Everything about this is pushing the right buttons..

But (and please don't kill me if this has been addressed earlier on in the topic, haven't read every page yet) - does anyone worry about if this is really currently happening on a PS4 and not 'just' a target visually? Not saying it's going to be a Killzone 2 reveal trailer all over again, just wondering how confident we are the end product will look as good as the current shots/trailer. Because it looks fantastic and I want to believe. Maybe Ubisoft has made me paranoid.

Considering GG's pedigree, it really doesn't look fanciful at all to me. I am neither gobsmacked, nor underwhelmed by the visuals; they're completely in line with my expectations.

Not to mention, that KZ2 trailer is still beyond this gen.

Honestly I'm not bugged if it looks a little worse. I'm more interested in what kind of gameplay it has and what makes it an RPG over just an action game. If it has some good gameplay features/RPG features and they find they need to compromise something, with the graphics looking that good now, I'm ok with them sacrificing some quality to keep up gameplay. Even if it doesn't look that good graphics won't be a dealkiller if the game is really good.

Don't get me wrong, I like good graphics. And I'm definitely not the kind of person who is willing to totally sacrifice graphics (sorry, but graphics are one reason I have a harder time getting into indie games especially if they purposely try to do the pixel art look. I'm glad games can be better than pixels now and I don't want to go back just to be nostalgic), but there is a point for me that it is good enough. And that game goes way over good enough at the moment so if they have to sacrifice something to keep a neat gameplay element in, I'm fine with that.

no, targets are usually just cinematics. this was a full gameplay sequence.

there were also imperfections in the engine you could see. so its def. not a target render. This is also 5 years into development. Way too late to be worried about target renders. They have the engine in place.

Sony should leave the holidays for Gran Turismo 7. Let Horizon release in the summer where there's less competition for a new IP.

Agreed. Try to get this. It's a new IP so let it get some time by itself in the Summer.

Hmm when are we expecting GOW4 to release.

Go read up about Killzone 2 and the first 'in-game' trailer, maybe.

Different times. Pretty much all Sony reveals with PS4 games have had in-engine stuff that almost always ends up looking better at release. No reason to think Horizon won't follow the same course of action.

Pretty sure after that fiasco none of their first party titles have shown CG and passed it off as game play. Everyone claimed the shadow fall trailer was CG and it turned out to be all in game from the get go.

edit: they also demoed the game in real time to the press. so there it is.
