Final Fantasy 7 Remake Announced (First on PS4)

So, it's confirmed the crossdressing scene will still be in? That's nice to hear. Cloud does have a fairly feminine face after all. I'm weary of potential story changes, just hoping they don't try to shoe in too much things from the compilation.

I don't why it is weird to see Xbox button for FFVII. I played all 3 FFXIII titles on my 360 and played Type-0 on my X1 and am looking forward to playing XV on Xbox One in the near future. I don't feel weird at all.

Yes, I admit that the fanbase of FF on Xbox is relative smaller than Playstation, but it doesn't mean we don't deserve to play the game on our favorite console.

FFVII remake is very huge and for sure there will be certain sales contributed by X1 players.

If SE does think the fanbased is too small on Xbox, why do they keep XV and KH3 on X1? And why do they port Type-0 to Xbox One as well.

I think the only reason this game will not come to X1 is Sony funding it.

Last of all, congrats to Sony fans that can play this game at launch. Enjoy this great E3.
Many of these deals are made long in advance. If SE new Xbox1 wouldn't dominate the U.S like 360, some of these games might not be on X1 atm...FF-type 0 actually sold very poorly on X1. The age of exclusives just for the sake of money hats are over though, as they costs too much, but the majority of the fans being some place specific does weigh in on publishers decisions to port games. SF5 for example wouldn't have been possible being a PC/X1 exclusive because of Japan/Europe complete favoritism to Sony's console.

If it's moneyhatting, then I guess this is the first time I'm okay with that. I wont complain. It's fucking FF VII for gods sake. They could have robbed a kindergarten to fund it and I'd still be okay with it...

I don't think this is really an example of money hatting, though. Given the time difference, the relatively smaller install base on the XBone and the past sales of Final Fantasy games when multiplatform, it's not entirely obvious that it would have a) gotten made at all without Sony's (alleged) funding and b) that it would be obviously multiplatform if not. I think "moneyhatting" usually refers to console makers paying developers to keep their games exclusive (or DLC, or timed exclusive etc) when it otherwise wouldn't have been - ie CoD console-exclusive map packs or whatever. This practice is pretty shitty because no one really gains, it just hurts other gamers. If we assume that Sony's funding is the primary reason that this game is getting made (when it is, at least) then that's the opposite to hurting gamers.

Near 6 million views.....insane. 20 years later FF7 is still remembered as one of the greatest video games in history.

Thank you... Hopefully that means no turn based.

I feel terrible for those who really craved it, but this is a good sign for me considering it's hard for me to get into traditional turn based/atb nowadays....

just have everyone together at all times like FFX.

I think this would be a great idea.

That's a One Winged Angel statue:

Yes it is! Pretty sure that'll be around the first Aeris scene.

Yes. If he can make it better, make it better.

Easy changes:
- improved translation
- an option to skip combat animations
- eliminate the separate battle field, so you don't go through that transition every time
- reduce random encounters or even see and avoid enemies before battle starts

But they have to keep ATB. Otherwise it's not FF7 anymore.

For the size of the party, maybe they could keep the actual combat to three members, but the rest of the party gains XP and AP also.

I'm trying to think of something less iconic about FFVII than ATB and I can't. I would expect a completely new system more in line with recent releases.

Imagine If the game supports VR and you have to hold aeris body in your arms T___T

N O P E. not enough booze on the planet for me to handle that.

Couldn't they get Nobuo Uematsu back for this? I really don't think he is doing anything other than mobile games. Would be so strange without his music.

Surely it's "only" the arrangement that needs doing, non? I don't wanna say that just any ol' person could do it, but I can't see why they'd need to actually compose any music for this - they can keep all the same "songs" with a orchestrated arrangement done by someone that isn't Uematsu and I shouldn't imagine it'll lose the atmosphere or soul.

my biggest fear is they will lose this lovely aesthic:

They need to find a way to still keep that slightly anime look to the things like steam/electric crackles/glows.

I truely believe the thing people love most about FF7 is its ambiance and atmosphere. More than any other FF ever made, FF7 just drips with amazing atmosphere, set peices and the feeling of greatness, mixed in a steam punk/cyber punk package.

Shouldn't be a problem.
Uematsu is still very much connected to the FF series. His work on Advent Children is brilliant, so I'd love to hear his updated versions on other classics from the OST (i.e. Cosmo Canyon, the Highwind theme, etc.)

However, the music has already been made. Worst case scenario, they get someone else to come in and simply remaster/arrange the songs. It'll still be Uematsu's compositions.

edit: what Cyclops said :D

I think when it eventually releases it'll launch on PS4 and be exclusive for some time 6 months - 1 year followed by a PC/Steam release. I think they will wait and see for the XBOXONE but either way it's more $$ unless Sony does something with development.

Oh ok, cool. Still hope he gets involved somehow. I also hope SE puts out a survey at some point for feedback. I know they will make us proud, but I don't want them to just go all gun ho on the project either.

My dream is that, say, next E3, they surprise everyone by bringing Sakaguchi up to the stage to announce he is returning to the FF series to act as an 'advisor' to the VII Remake or something.

Sure, it would probably just be an honorary title, but I think fans would go nuts and it would increase the hype level even more. :p

This Remake could have only two weeks of exclusivity that it wouldn't matter.
It's going to sell consoles just to no wait a single week more.

I'd rather much see that motorcycle scene more honestly.

Motorcycle scene should be insane.
CyberConnect2 made the GBike mobile game, which is pretty fun, so imagine what their techs can do with a VII-Remake style budget for that scene. Add that with something similar to Nomura's direction of the motorcycle scenes in Advent Children and... damn...
Would be fun to switch between Cloud on the bike, road-rash style, Barret in the truckbed with an over-the-shoulder shooting mechanic, to maybe Tifa driving avoiding Midgar highway construction! :D

Ahhhh, can't even fathom all that!

I honestly never knew the cross-dressing scene was such an important part of this massive game for some people until this week. Mind blown.

I think it was basically like the first bit of "weirdness" in the game. Prior to that it's a evil corporation, terrorist group, attempted abduction of a girl, they play it pretty seriously. It kind of bucks your expectation of the game and really leaves an interesting mark. I'd be disappointed if it was seriously altered.

It's the first thing they'd change if they went full gritty remake. That's why it's important.

But... it was just an unnecessary goofy fetch-quest part that slows the pacing down to a crawl. I recall it was the first part of the game that made me feel bored.
Yeah, it brings a bit of levity to the serious & somber Cloud, but it's an absolutely expendable scene. Just my 2 cents on it. :)

Since Platinum makes everything these days can they also remake Dirge of Cerberus and make a Sephiroth-centric Wutai War game? I mean, since FF7 is relevant again and all...
